Lily

One year later...

I KISSED CHARLEY one more ti and forced back tears as Maverick and I stood at the end of the security line at PDX. "I don’t know if I can do this," I admitted.

Maverick chuckled, pulling close. "It’s one week, baby doll. Charley will be well taken care of."

We were finally taking our honeymoon, and our flight to Charleston left in less than an hour.

"I will text you every few hours with proof of life," Mom promised.

"Once a day," Maverick corrected. "She’s gonna be busy."

"Maverick!" I admonished.

"What? You will be."

"I’m sure I will, but my mother does not need to hear that."

Mom giggled, hugging Charley closer. "It’s okay, huh, Charley girl? You want a little brother or sister, don’t you? Tell Daddy he needs to make that happen."

"Ohmigod, no. No more babies for a while," I countered.

"We’ll practice for when we’re ready," Maverick promised.

I waved my hands in front of my face to dry the tears threatening to spill. "Okay, okay, let’s go. If we don’t go now, I won’t be able to."

"Say bye-bye to Mama," Mom instructed.

Charley gave a backward wave. "Mama."

I kissed her a few hundred more tis. Maverick kissed her and guided away, wrapping his arm around from behind in order to keep moving forward. "She’s going to be fine," he whispered in my ear. "So are you."

"I know that in my head, but I miss her already."

"I know, baby doll."

We made it onto the plane, and I relaxed in stages, giving a chance to think about everything that had happened over the last year.

Jenny had been given life without the possibility of parole for kidnapping and attempted murder. She was finally out of our lives, and I couldn’t have been more relieved. Unfortunately for her, she’d made enemies within the Spiders. Six months into her sentence, she’d been found stabbed to death in the won’s showers. I couldn’t muster up any emotion for the woman who gave life. She’d tried to take everything I loved away from , and she was dead to ... Now, she was dead to permanently, and there was a asure of relief in that.

Ryder and Sadie (along with Reese and the rest of the crew) were now officially part of the club. I didn’t know that they’d ever officially patch in, but they were part of the family just the sa.

The Spiders had stopped ssing with us for the mont. Ryder was keeping an eye on them, though, and I was glad we had more backup in that regard.

Maverick and I loved our little family. We still lived in the basent, but we knew we’d need to find sothing bigger soon. Maverick had been given a raise, but I hadn’t gone back to work and didn’t plan to for at least another six months. I was loving being with Charley too much.

All-in-all, though, life was perfect, and now, we were heading to our much overdue honeymoon. I lifted the armrest between Maverick and and scooted as close as the seatbelt would allow.

"Hey, baby doll," he said, sliding his arm around my waist and kissing gently.

"Hey, Möosh." I grinned. "I can’t believe we might actually get more than eight hours of sleep."

He chuckled. "I can’t wait."

" neither."

"Love you, Lil."

"Love you more, Möosh."

He kissed again, and we settled into comfortable silence as we journeyed to the next adventure.

Life was perfect.
