Damian’s POV

The mont Jenna leaned into , I felt it. Not just the weight of her body, but the intent behind it.

She was trying to send a signal to other people to stay away from us tonight. It almost felt cute in a clumsy sort of way, and my insides felt warm and fuzzy. Her attempt was so cute, but she was not as intimidating as she hoped to be.

So it fell on to help her out.

I glared at everyone, with my face resting above her head. It made everyone else quickly look away.

My hand pressed more firmly against her lower back, fingers spreading just enough to make my ssage clear. She was with , so no one else had the right to even look at her.

Jenna stiffened for a second, then relaxed against . She trusted enough to let do that, and my heart felt heavy and light at the sa ti.

This place was dangerous. It would not be wrong to say that this was a snake’s den, with danger filled in every direction. But no snake would dare venture near Jenna as long as she was marked by my presence.

I tilted my head slightly, bringing my mouth closer to her ear without touching her.

"You’re doing well. Just stay like this. People are looking at us, and I need to make sure I drive the ssage across that we are together."

I murmured, and Jenna’s breath hitched subtly before she relaxed against .

Good.

Around us, the noise of the club blended into a dull hum. Sowhere in the background, soone whimpered and let out low moans. Jenna shifted slightly at the sound, and my jaw tightened as I felt her move against .

’Tsk, this is hard. I need to hold back before sothing happens.’

I should have brought soone else. Anyone else.

Then, I won’t be in half as much of a problem as I currently was facing. It was already hard, and it had not even been that long.

But as soon as I thought of coming here with soone else, I was reminded of what Jenna had told —that she would follow on her own...and that was even more dangerous.

Who knew what kind of low-life would attack himself to Jenna in an attempt to ’help’ her out. I was not willing to take this risk...

I scanned the room again, this ti with purpose. Almost everyone knew who I was and not to ss with . But just because they knew what was good for them did not an they followed that advice as well.

One man lingered too close, his gaze sliding back to Jenna for the third ti. I t his eyes and didn’t look away.

The man noticed my stare and imdiately yelped before he looked away.

Jenna did not notice, as her eyes were aid sowhere else. She felt tense against as her hands tightened around my jacket.

I leaned back slightly, adjusting our position so she was more shielded by my body.

"You’re safe. No one here will touch you...without your permission."

I said quietly, more promise than reassurance. But my words felt sour in my mouth. I did not want anyone to touch Jenna, be it with her or without her permission.

Not without losing sothing important.

She nodded against my neck, a small, trusting motion that hit harder than it should have.

I had planned to co here to extract information, but I did not want to move from my position either. I felt far too comfortable at the mont.

"We should...start moving now. The sooner we find Iris, the sooner we will be able to head back ho."

Jenna reminded , and I felt a little irritated. But since I had no reason to say no to her, I agreed and allowed her to move first.

But Jenna did not move. She seed to be just as comfortable as I was feeling at the mont, and we both sat there with a relaxed expression on our faces.

"I...should move, right?"

Jenna asked, finally pushing at my chest and leaning over . Her back arched, causing everyone to look at her once more. I pushed her back to her feet before I stood up and covered her in my coat as well.

From the corner of my eyes, I spotted soone heading toward , but then stopping midway to consider what they should do. I recognized the ssenger and signalled for him to co closer.

The teen hurried over to before he leaned over and whispered his ssage in my ears.

"Boss has invited you to the backrooms...alone. He says he has a gift he wishes to share with you. Your partner will have to wait in one of the side-rooms for now."

The teenager looked and sounded nervous when he told this, and for a good reason.

The ’boss’s invitation’ was a special ssage that was given to high-ranking people who decided to visit this club. They were often invited into special rooms to have fun with more ’experienced’ and ’eager’ partners.

To do this was an insult to soone’s current partner, but no one seed to care as long as they had a good ti.

This invitation was my best chance at finding Iris, but I still did not take it. Mainly because taking this chance would an leaving Jenna alone. And that was not sothing I felt comfortable doing...even in a side-room.

"Damian, is this an invite? You need to take it right now. This is our chance to be able to find Iris."

Jenna whispered, and I felt irritated at her eagerness. I knew that she was only telling this because this was what we ca here to do, but did she have to be this eager?

’Does Jenna...really not feel bothered that I will be going to soone else other than her? Does the mission an so much to her? Or...does she not see in a romantic way?’

Whatever the reason was, my mood had soured a little, and a frown took over my face, causing the teenager who brought the ssage to flinch.
