Karl’s POV
My chest felt tight, like sothing sharp had lodged itself there and refused to move.
’How can she do that with ? Does she not recall that I sacrificed to be with her? I betrayed Jenna and...’
The thought cut off on its own, too ugly to finish, too heavy to sit with.
My thoughts spiraled out of control as I recalled the scene of Rose being close to another man. And not even in a normal way at that.
No matter how many tis I replayed it, the image refused to soften or blur.
She was sitting with her cheeks pressed against soone else right in her office, where anyone could see her. And what’s worse? It was her secretary.
I wanted to believe her...I really did, but a part of felt betrayed and kept whispering negative words to .
’She already betrayed her sister once and stole you. What’s stopping her from cheating on you as well? You cannot trust her.’
The words echoed, cruel and relentless, striking every fragile spot I had tried to protect.
"No, Rose is not like that. I refuse to believe that she’s like that..."
I said it out loud, as if saying it might make it true.
Because if she was...then what was the point of betraying Jenna like I did? So far, the only thing that justified my actions was my love and my desire to have a future with her.
Without that, everything I had done beca unforgivable.
Rose had convinced that Jenna was a threat, and I believed her words...no, I had to believe her words...for the sake of my sanity.
If Rose was lying now, then maybe she had been lying all along.
I reached my office, ignoring Rose’s voice that called out my na. She was the last person I wanted to see at the mont.
If I turned around, I knew my resolve would crack.
"Sir, do you—"
"Please send Miss Rose back if she cos here. I do not want to talk to her at the mont."
I needed distance before my emotions made decisions for .
I commanded, and my secretary looked confused. She had always seen talk nicely about Rose, so I could understand her confusion. But in the end, she was a good secretary and knew when not to ask questions.
"I understand. I will inform our staff about this. Please wait a minute."
She quickly disappeared before she ca back five minutes later. My phone buzzed, but I decided not to pick it up. I just needed so ti to calm down and think about what all had happened.
And Rose also needed ti to calm down and think about what she did. So it was for the best that we remained separated...for now.
__________
Jenna’s POV
Things were finally moving exactly where I wanted them to.
This was proceeding as I had expected. Iris’s post had gone viral, and even the television had started to pick it up.
The director who caused all this called imdiately as soon as he heard what was happening and asked if I wanted to pull out of the collaboration.
"There is no need for that, director. Soon, it will be ti for us to counterattack. I am just waiting for so more players to join."
I told him, but the man sounded unsure.
"Are you sure you want to wait that long, Miss? You might suffer huge losses."
The director told , and I quickly assured him that it was fine.
"Don’t worry, director. Please continue your work. I assure you that nothing will go wrong."
Just as I said these words, there was another post on social dia. But this ti, it was not from Iris, but from Harvour Industries.
Right on cue.
Rose had finally bitten the bait I had laid out for her, and now it was ti to counterattack.
She never could resist stepping in when her pride was challenged.
[Harvour Industries
We have recently learned that one of our staff, ’Miss Iris,’ has been discriminated against in the industry. As such, we will be taking strict action against this and punish those who have wronged her.]
There were a lot of comnts about her at the mont, and even that was pushing the negative news about her out.
I had already ordered soone to post that video of her being rude to Noah online, but it had been buried under all this.
Until now.
Now, it was finally ti to push that video forward. I signaled for the news reporter I had bribed to post the video, and right under the post of the company, the video appeared as the top comnt.
The timing was perfect.
[Mr. Reporter A
Don’t pretend Miss Iris is as innocent as you make her out to be. Didn’t she get snubbed because she is rude and tried to bully a newcor who was just trying to work? Your side should be the one getting harassed.]
Once the seed of doubt was planted, it spread fast.
Below was a video that had been taken on the set. But this was not the only video I had of Iris.
I had a lot of video evidence stored against her and other highly influential people that I just needed to release at the right ti. Only I knew the password of the drive all this was stored on...and that there was even a drive like this.
It took no effort to dig out a few more pieces of evidence of her old doings and forward them to a few reporters.
Once the dam cracked, it wouldn’t stop.
Within an hour, the company post was littered with evidence of Iris’s wrongdoings, and her na was being dragged through the mud. A few people tried to defend her still, but they could do little in front of all the evidence that was being piled before them.
I was not going to lose this montum—at least, not yet. Iris wanted to play this ga, so I was going to allow her to play this ga.
After all, I knew her well enough to know what her next move would be.
Since she had been cornered, she would try to get influential people to help her out. And to do that, she would need blackmail. And what better way to get so than to try and get these people into a compromised situation?
Unfortunately for her, nothing she was going to do was going to work anymore.
This ti, she was the one without an exit.
