’Wow. Damian’s secretary is sothing else. I don’t think anyone else would have stuck around for this long if they hated with every fiber of their being.’
It was pretty obvious at this point that Damian’s secretary hated . Her words were polite, and she never did anything rude after we set out, but the way she behaved with was clearly problematic.
But perhaps the problem lay with , because I found her ways to harass almost... cute.
Maybe I was becoming twisted, because even her hostility was starting to feel entertaining.
It did not help that her pranks were harmless as well, like bringing cold coffee when I asked her for a hot cup. Or taking the wrong turn when I asked her to take a turn.
At this point, I was half-convinced she wanted to scold her just so she could brag about hating publicly.
But ultimately, she did help reach where I needed to, so I had no reason to question her.
Even pettiness had limits, apparently....at least when she feared disappointing Damian.
"Miss Emma, you can wait outside for now. I have your number, so I will call you when I need to leave for my next appointnt."
I told the secretary, who seed to not be paying attention to a thing I said. My words imdiately made her snap her eyes toward .
Her pupils constricted like she had heard a threat rather than a simple instruction.
"You are going in... alone? I am sorry, but I am under strict orders to not allow that."
Emma was firm in her decision, and I also saw no point in keeping her out of the loop. So I welcod her in with .
I could almost hear her mutter "over my dead body" in her head as she followed behind.
The first company I decided to visit was NYC Entertainnt. It was a small company with almost 50–70 employees. It had no noticeable talent or presence. But if you were to look at the company’s record, you would notice that it had a presence in all successful works.
An invisible backbone of the industry - quiet, powerful, and underestimated. Exactly what I needed.
It was all because of who the person in charge of this place was.
"Excuse , but I would like to have a eting with your CEO. Is she in at the mont?"
I asked the front desk lady, and she imdiately opened her register to check.
"Please state your na and your purpose of visit. Do you have a prior appointnt? If not, then I would like for you to get one. Our CEO is a busy woman."
The front desk lady was professional as she checked her system.
"I do not have an appointnt, but I have a good offer for her. Would you let her know and ask her if she would like to et to hear it?"
I asked, and the front desk worker gave a dirty look. She did not seem happy with having to convey my ssage, and I could see the rejection coming from a mile away.
It was written across her face - the classic "you’re not important enough."
Before she could speak, I decided to use Damian’s na to get my way around.
"Ah, I think I should tell you this beforehand. I was here on behalf of Damian Black. Please keep that in mind when you deal with ."
That was a warning. I was not even trying to hide that it was a warning. The lady in front of flinched as soon as she heard what I had said, and her hands stopped typing.
Just to be sure, I gave her the business card I had borrowed (stolen) from Damian and handed it over to her. It was a personal business card that only a limited number of people had in the world.
She gave an almost horrified look before she caught herself. I also noticed that her hands were shaking a little right now.
She was probably calculating how fast she would be fired if she offended .
"You are... from Mr. Black’s circle...? Please wait a minute. I will call our boss. She’ll be here in a minute."
Damian’s na worked wonders, but I also vowed to make sure he did not find out. There was no need for him to know that I was using his na with strangers to get my way.
Emma’s expression was also shocking and angry, but at least she had the sense to not say anything to . She was calculating how she could screw over with this new information.
The secretary asked for five minutes, and exactly after five minutes, a beautiful female stepped into the hallway.
"Who is here to et on Mr. Black’s behalf...?"
The CEO turned to look at , and her eyes widened.
"Jenna...?"
She whispered, and I felt a little shaken to et soone from my past. But I quickly recovered and stood straight.
For a heartbeat, I wasn’t sure if she saw Jenna or a ghost.
"Miss Nicole, I am Jenna Lorance, and I am here on behalf of Mr. Damian Black to extend an offer to you. Would you allow to accompany you to your office?"
I asked in a clear and strong voice. Nicole still seed to be in a daze, but she snapped out of it at my question and realized that she was keeping waiting.
"Ah, of course. Please co with . Secretary, cancel any appointnts I have for the next few hours. I will be a little busy."
The female told the front desk worker, and I imdiately understood why she was so proud until now. It was because she was the secretary.
"I understand, Miss. I will make sure no one disturbs you."
The female secretary told us. She gave a look, likely wondering who I was. But I was not going to dignify her with an answer.
I followed Nicole back to her office. My surroundings looked much more mature compared to the pink ss I usually saw around her office. As soon as I was seated on the sofa, the door of the room was locked shut.
Nicole took the seat in front of , but her eyes were not smiling.
The air sharpened like knives. This was not a friendly reunion.
"So, who really sent you here and for what purpose? Your face... really looks like soone I know, and your na is similar as well. Makes wonder... did soone tell you about my relation with Jenna Harvour?"
Nicole asked, not even bothering to hide her annoyance and suspicion toward . Her eyes were asking what I was doing here.
I felt a little touched that Nicole was getting angry on my behalf. But at the sa ti, it was a little annoying as well because it put a wrench in my plans.
"That is... not the case, Miss Nicole. Do you truly not know who I am? I made quite a few appearances with Mr. Black in news already. You can easily find out who I am if you dig a little."
