"Is that you, Little Sister Ling’er?"

Ever since waking up, this little girl has been hanging around him, occasionally offering so unique mountain fruits for him to snack on, and Ye Tian unreservedly shared his gadgets like his cell phone with her, though she mostly wanted to play gas on it. Unfortunately, her dad always watched her like a hawk, declaring that cell phones were enchanting demons, which resulted in her dad’s stout-waisted wife smacking him on the back of the head.

A crisp laughter reached his ears, and Ye Tian smiled slightly, removing the phoenix tree leaf and saw Zhang Ling’er bending down, looking at him.

Zhang Ling’er straightened up, clasped her hands behind her back, and asked, "What are you doing here?"

"Why, are you afraid I’d steal your lotus leaves? There aren’t even flowers around."

Zhang Ling’er smoothed her white dress and sat down on the grass. Ye Tian also hopped off the chair and mimicked her posture, sitting on the ground with so distance maintained between them.

"Why are you acting like Little Baldy?"

Ye Tian was puzzled, tilting his head to look at her, "How are we alike?"

"You both keep your distance."

Watching her gaze at the open space between them, Ye Tian chuckled slightly. This girl was truly like an untainted mountain spring, genuinely pure and adorable in his eyes.

"Didn’t your dad tell you about the impropriety of n and won giving or receiving things from each other?"

"My dad only mutters about how to earn more money to buy pretty clothes for my mom, and then he takes the chance to scold Little Baldy. Other than that, he hasn’t said much to ."

"What about your mom?"

Zhang Ling’er looked up at a green bird flying overhead, tilting her head, "Seems like... my mom hasn’t told anything either. Quitting primary school was her decision. She said the education that I got from elentary school was enough; any more would be toxic."

"Your mom is quite clear on that."

"Of course," Talking about her mother seed to excite Zhang Ling’er far more than discussing her dad, "My mom is a genuine university graduate. If not for incidentally teaching at this remote place and eting my dad, she might have been the CEO of so corporation or a top female executive at a major company by now."

Ye Tian smiled and said nothing. If she were that impressive, she wouldn’t have ended up with an old bald man. There’s a saying, ’heroes cannot overco the beauty trap,’ but isn’t it equally hard for beauties to overco the hero trap?"

At this point, an intriguing question popped into Ye Tian’s mind. Clutching a stalk of foxtail in his mouth, he turned and asked, "Isn’t your dad a monk? How could he even get married?"

The little girl’s face finally showed a hint of pride, "Because my dad is aweso."

He really is. Ye Tian nodded unintentionally, pondering the monk’s capability to bring him back from a group of formidable foreign masters. What remained uncertain was whether he managed to bring back the Buddha Bead Relics. If he did, that would indeed be truly incredible.

"My mom often tells about their romantic tales from the past. Do you want to hear so?"

It seems that Ye Tian has finally found an interesting topic to discuss, rather than tangling up in the question of who is more capable.

Above the bamboo forest, a green bird flew past, its beak holding a worm, hurriedly returning to feed its child.

I rember that year, it was also this season.

A little monk was walking through the mountains, carrying a basket on his back, filled with books for the children below the mountain. The Four Books and Five Classics, Changes and Rites, and several Yuewei Notes.

Between the mountain streams, his coarse handkerchief beca wet, and he wiped his forehead with it, wiping away the sweat, hurrying on his way when he suddenly heard a cry for help. The voice sounded like a woman’s. He stood up, but then the voice disappeared.

The little monk blushed, could it be as Master ntioned, filled with energy thus overflowing, is this the ti of burning desire?

He squatted down and scooped a handful of water and splashed it on his face to make himself more alert. Before the water had even scattered from his face, he heard that cry for help again. It shouldn’t be a hallucination this ti, right?

The little monk, with furrowed brows, saw a white figure on the opposite side of the stream. The voice seed to be coming from that direction. When the little monk rushed over, indeed, there was a girl with braids who had sprained her ankle, leaning against a big tree. In front of her was a hissing flower snake, raising its head, its body covered with golden scales, looking quite fearso.

Seeing soone approaching, the girl imdiately pointed at the snake in front of her and said, "Quick, quick, drive it away."

The little monk muttered Amitabha, but instead helped the girl up and walked to the side, gently saying in her ear, "You were sitting next to its ho. Besides, this is a non-venomous snake, its na is ’Fortunate Union.’"

In the end, the story took a very clichéd turn, and it wasn’t the little monk’s fault for being shaless, it was truly because his Master always advised him—to find a partner early.

"Let’s get married."

Ye Tian was stunned for a mont, but then saw Zhang Ling’er giggling, "You know, my dad proposed to my mom the day after they t. Isn’t he impressive, don’t you think he should marry?"

Ye Tian nodded admiringly; indeed, he should.

"He made only one promise to my mom, he said, ’If I have one bowl of food, I’ll give it all to you to eat, and just watch by your side. If there are two bowls, I will eat only half a bowl, and give the rest to you. I fear that if I starve, you’ll feel sorry.’"

...

In this monastery, it seems that Ye Tian truly is an extra person; the little monk is busy washing clothes and cooking, while the master monk is running around painting talismans to drive away evil spirits, while also exchanging them for so offerings. As for the remaining two won, all they need to do is dress up beautifully. The only thing Ye Tian could participate in, in this collective, is at the dining table.

The task of serving rice, as usual, falls on the little monk. Once he fills each of the four bowls in front of him, there is not much rice left in the rice bucket, if he eats more, then less than half a bowl might be left, possibly leaving Ling’er unsatisfied, but if he eats less, it will just leave one bowl, in case Ling’er is still hungry, she can eat another bowl.

"My appetite is not good today, I’ll just have half a bowl," the little monk served himself half a bowl of rice and sat down obediently.

Ye Tian looked at the rice in his bowl, sowhat puzzled, "Little Master, is that all you’re eating? How is that enough?"

With an unchanged expression, the little monk picked up a piece of green vegetable, put it into his bowl, mixed with the rice and swallowed, "Benefactor, no need to worry, it does not matter. Having half a bowl of rice in my stomach is enough for Yuanguang’s share."
