Chapter 522: I love you

Ye Tian’s expression turned ugly, filled with worry. Recalling the scene from last night that he described, Chu Tianying also felt uneasy. He had encountered people who played with insects; in Africa, many tribes often kept various strange creatures, and he saw so tinkering with Gu in South Arica, but playing with the dead and making them walk and talk was sothing he had never heard before. It wasn’t fear that he felt, but rather a wave of disgust at such extre and even perverse practices.

At this mont, the satellite phone that Chu Tianying had kept in his backpack suddenly rang.

The room fell silent abruptly. All three of them turned their gaze toward the backpack in the corner of the room; in the quiet room, only the incessant ringing of the phone persisted, wave after wave of sound jabbing at everyone’s nerves.

“You didn’t turn it off?” Ye Tian asked.

“My satellite signal is encrypted. It can’t be tracked. It must be my family calling.”

rcenaries often referred to their teams as “family,” so Ye Tian wasn’t surprised. However, he was still brooding over the comnt that Chu Tianying had made during their last phone call, about being discovered if too much ti passed. Seeing Ye Tian’s reproachful look, Chu Tianying awkwardly laughed, then took the satellite phone out of his backpack.

His brows furrowed; Chu Tianying was sure he didn’t recognize this number. That was strange. Their team’s phone numbers were all encrypted and unique, and they rarely changed. Where could this unknown number be from? It couldn’t have been hacked—no one had been known to crack satellite phone encryption. The phone kept ringing, and after Chu Tianying ntioned it to Ye Tian, who couldn’t be sure either, Ye Tian waved his hand, “Answer it. If it’s good fortune, great; if it’s disaster, you can’t avoid it.”

“Should I really take the call?”

“Nonsense!”

With a fierce glare from Ye Tian, Chu Tianying hurriedly answered the phone. The call connected, but no one on either end spoke at first. Chu Tianying shook his head at Ye Tian.

“Is Ye Tian there?”

Huh? Chu Tianying was taken aback but said nothing, covering the mouthpiece, “They’re looking for you.”

Ye Tian thought it over—who could be looking for him?

“Hello, it’s .”

He had survived so many ordeals; surely he wasn’t going to die over a phone call.

“It’s .”

The voice was weathered but strong. Although it bore so signs of fatigue, there was no hint of despondence. It was the Political Commissar.

“Kid, enjoying life in Nepal so much you’ve forgotten to return?”

Ye Tian blurted out, “How do you know I’m here?” But then it dawned on him—on the other end of the phone was an entire country; what’s a re satellite phone? If a country were determined, spare no resources nor expense, nothing was impossible. North Korea could even develop nuclear weapons without feeding its people, let alone the mighty nation of Huaxia.

“Heh heh, Boss, what can I do for you?”

The voice of the Political Commissar on the other end grew weary; the lad was always like this, unaffected by persuasion, and yet not under his control, making it a problem to handle him.

“How dare I command you? I’m here asking for your help.”

The Political Commissar sounded rather pitiful on the phone, almost more so than any wronged woman could, making Ye Tian almost believe he was the callous husband who neglected his wife.

“Boss, let’s talk properly; don’t play a tragic act. I can’t stand it.” Actually, Ye Tian’s unspoken words were that it’d be better if it were a woman.

“Be serious for once, you. Aren’t you already in enough trouble?”

Ye Tian was startled—so fast to find out! But unsure, he probed, “What’s wrong with ? I’ve always been diligently doing my job.”

“Don’t give that! As if I’m blind and deaf to your shenanigans! Not to ntion distant matters, was it you who set that fire in the slum area? Tsk tsk, shaful! Couldn’t even kill a single person! What kind of work is that?”

The tone on the other end had a hint of smugness, feigning anger while the words betrayed a sense of pleasure at knowing a little secret. While Ye Tian was sowhat surprised, he could sense the care from the other party. To a certain extent, compared to others, Ye Tian had so affection for the Political Commissar who was responsible for contacting him.

“Johnson must have found you by now, that man never hunts without seeing the rabbit. What did he tell you?”

“You told him?” Ye Tian was sowhat surprised.

The other side laughed and cursed, “What did you think? Do you think you’re important enough for a minister to seek you out personally? Our country is planning to invest in a project in the southern industrial zone of Nepal. It’s not a huge investnt, but it’s a significant addition to his list of achievents, of course, he needs to seize it.”

Ye Tian scoffed repeatedly; so Johnson sought him out just to make a convenient favor. Humph, using a borrowed knife to kill soone—all these tricks were invented by our Huaxia people.

He had never expected things to be simple, but involving himself with the Huaxia governnt was indeed beyond Ye Tian’s expectations. A minor affair could beco troubleso with governnt involvent; he worried that if his physical secrets were discovered, the state might just take him back for dissection and turn him into an experintal subject.

“I reckon they’re trying to cause so unrest. I’d advise you to leave that place of trouble sooner rather than later. It’s not a good place to be.”

“The Minister of the Ministry of Comrce is asking for help, I can’t just walk away; want to take over for ?”

Ye Tian said bluntly. The voice on the phone turned serious, “I’ve already dispatched staff to your location. If you can pull out, do it. Don’t worry about other matters.”

“Other matters? Listen to you… What could I possibly be concerned with?”

“Ha ha ha, that’s good to hear. Oh, and one more thing, our delegation has already arrived in Kathmandu. If you’re interested, you might want to pay a visit.”

“Delegation? What delegation? Is it for business negotiations?”

Ye Tian was puzzled. Knowing that the political situation here was becoming unstable, why would they eagerly send people here? Didn’t they understand the adage, “A wise man does not stand under a dangerous wall?”

“Not for business, it’s for a religious conference. They say it’s world-renowned, which I’m ignorant of; I haven’t heard much about it. The Buddhist Council had a word with , implying they’d like to provide so protection. If you’re interested, you can check it out. It’s being held at the embassy, by now, they should all be arranged together I suppose.”

“Who are they?”

“They’re all monks, purportedly high monks. You too can go have a look. If there’s anything you don’t understand, you can also ask for advice. After all, you’re carrying a heavy responsibility on your shoulders.”
