Chapter 76: Need For Comfort (2)

"How do you feel?" Madeline waved a hand at his face in case he saw anything different, a look of aspiration gleaming in her eyes. "Can you see anything? Even a shadow or sothing?" She asked while continuously waving her hand at his handso face, but Cassian remained mute as he sat on the bed, weakening Madeline’s confidence.

"This ans you still can’t see a thing?" He sensed the hope in her voice that was about to be crushed by his ’no’ response, but he gave a lopsided grin while grabbing hold of her wrist, stopping her from continuously waving her hand at his face.

"Stop, or you’ll make

feel dizzy." He responded with a sigh as though he had grown tired of keeping her on edge, and Madeline’s expression perked up instantly when he made ntion of going dizzy. If he can’t see her hand move then how can he go dizzy from it??

"You can see??" She asked with her eyes open_wide, and he was a bit reluctant to say yes. "It’s more vague than you think."

"Don’t be a damp squib, it’s an improvent!" She grinned and waved her hands in front of his face again, his Amber-brown eyes followed it slightly as it moved left and right as though he was getting bored seeing it move like that, and she let out a glee sound.

"The eyedrop must be doing a good job cleansing the paste of your eyes. I’m so happy!" She clapped her hands excitedly before moving away from his line of sight to go get the blindfold.

"You have to cover your eyes now. Your vision still needs to settle and I’m certain you’ll be able to see before the celebration your mother is working so hard to put for us." She said, but when she tried to cover his eyes, he resisted and moved his head back, to her surprise.

"What now?" She questioned when he refused to let her cover his eyes. "You need to cover your eyes so it can heal faster. The physician made it clear to ....."

"Aren’t you bothered by what I did yesterday?" He asked, cutting Madeline’s response short as she brought her hands down.

"What?" She blinked at him, and he took a deep breath. "What I did to you in the corridor. It must be bothering you, yet you’re not making any move to ask

about it." To be honest, it disturbed his mind to hear her speak like everything was fine even knowing fully well that what he did to her was beyond normal.

He had tried to co up with ways on how to apologize, but when she wasn’t bringing up the topic and speaking so freely, it didn’t settle well with him.

"I did want to bring it up." She responded calmly while looking into his eyes. "But, I didn’t want you to tell

cause you feel forced to, I want you to tell

cause you feel the need to tell

at your own will." She explained before her gaze turned quizzical. "Has anyone seen you in such a mood before?"

She was talking about the condition he was in last night, and since he gave her the opportunity to question him, she chose to go with what she witnessed last night.

The young lad remained silent for a few seconds, pondering on her question before nodding his head in response.

"Yes."

"Really?" She sounded surprised to hear it. "Who? Is it Orson?"

He shook his head.

"Inna? Your mother? Amade? Frederick?"

He shook his head at every na she ntioned, and she gave up. "Then who?"

"You." He finally gave the answer. "You’re the only person who has seen

in such a state before, and it is a pity you can’t recall the first ti we t."

"Huh?" Madeline appeared lost by his subtle statent. "Didn’t we et the first ti you said we made eye contact?"

The young lad clicked his tongue. "I won’t tell, try and recall yourself, way back to our younger days and if you can rember anything that happened from then." He indirectly hinted it for her, but still, she remained lost on what he was trying to imply.

"I doubt I will rember, my younger days weren’t the happiest monts of my life." Her eyes instinctively narrowed at him. "But you’re being suspicious, tell

what you’re hiding."

"Blindfold ." Just like that he had switched the topic. "We’ll look into the restricted area of the house tonight." Bringing her attention to the abandoned area of the house, Madeline shook her head in disagreent.

"No no, I don’t want to go there anymore." She quickly said, and Cassian’s brow quirked up.

"Why?"

"It’s restricted." She reminded him in a blatant tone. "The way you ask questions I wonder if you ever read the stop sign when going sowhere."

"What’s a stop sign?"

"And you’ve proved my point." She completely understands why he easily gets into one problem or the other.

"What has a stop sign got to do with what we’re talking about?" He asked, still not getting how both are connected.

"It’s restricted, we can’t go there if it’s not allowed."

"They don’t have to know."

"Must you remind

that you’ve always been a bad boy?"

"Everyti, I’m difficult to resist in most cases." And he kissed the top of her palm before looking into her eyes with that spellbinding gaze, and Madeline freed her hand from his grip.

He leaned back on the bed. "We will go once I regain my sight, now remind , who hurt you?"

"Jeremy." She answered without hesitation, "but you don’t have to worry about that, I dealt with him myself." Her tone held a bit of pride as she raised her shoulder. "He doesn’t seem to understand that I’m not one of those soft upper East won. I co from the upper west quarters where I was brought up differently, and I know how to handle n of his type."

"Tsk! Now I understand why mother is always harsh on , it’s a ntality that has been brewed into the won of the upper west quarters."

"And we’re proud of it," she smiled, "or don’t you like a woman who has actions of her own?"

"I don’t know about other won, but I am interested in knowing the things you do." And he rose to his feet, forcing Madeline to tilt her head up in order to look at him.

Her heart sped, and she felt flutters in her stomach when he uttered those words to her, most especially having to look in those eyes that had plans of seducing her. So she did the one thing that rang in her head, she blindfolded his eyes imdiately.

"Not today, Lord Cassian."

Their light bantering mont was disrupted when a knock on the stole the attention.

"I’ll get the door this ti." And he walked away from Madeline who placed her hand to her chest in order to catch her breath.

How does he keep doing that??

Opening the door, Amade was the one who stood there, and Cassian could tell after hearing his voice. "Is Orson here?"

"Yes, and the carriage is all set." Amade replied with a bow of his head.

Turning around, Cassian looked at Madeline and only waved once, signaling he was about to leave.

"I’ll be back."

"Wait_" she stopped him before he could leave. When he turned to look at her to ask what she wanted, Madeline hesitated for a few seconds and then all of a sudden, she was hugging him.

"Be...Be safe."

Amade who stood outside apparently turned away to stare at whatever his eyes could find, but deep down, his heart was singing with Joy, making him wish his wife was here to hug him with comfort as well.

Madeline pulled back and noticed Cassian’s dumbfounded reaction, but he soon recovered before flashing her the taunting smile she had grown familiar with, too familiar to make her realize he was about to tease her.

"You..."

"Bye bye now." She pushed him out the mont she sensed he was about to utter sothing her heart could not contain, closing the door and even locking it so he wouldn’t co inside.

Cassian drew his pink lower lip between his white teeth, silently acknowledging how his little wife was able to escape again.

Saying nothing more, he turned to his left and began walking through the corridor.

"Amade."

Amade, who was silently looking overjoyed, finally turned around to see Cassian leaving him behind.

"Ahh! Lord Cassian! Wait for ." He quickly hurried to Cassian’s side, the young lad not bothering to slow down on his footsteps.

"You and the new lady appear to have grown fond of each other quickly." Amadeus couldn’t help but comnt, and Cassian knew the old man wouldn’t be able to resist not comnting.

"Rember the girl I told you about, the one that saved

from dying all those years ago at the bridge." He said to Amade who nodded his head as he rembered quite well.

"She’s the sa girl."
