Chapter 135: Jeremy’s Death (1)

Inna’s gaze raked through every word for the umpteenth ti, trying to make proper sense of the puzzled words, and when it still didn’t make sense to her, she picked up her pen and decided to respond to the letter.

When her etiquette lesson teacher gave her so breaks, a few friends she made randomly brought the idea about how they write letters to their pen friends to while away ti, and Inna discovered the sa technique was what helped her gain Geoffrey’s whereabouts when she seeked her confrere for help.

Curious, she decided to test it for the first ti, and already made up her mind that no one would respond to her letters regarding if vampires existed, since whoever might receive it would assu she was ntally unstable to ask sothing like this, but shockingly, the bird returned the next day with a response from an unknown compatriot, and they’ve been exchanging letters ever since.

Dropping her quill back on the ink jar, Inna carefully opened the windows of her room.

Peering out through the window, Inna whistled, using it to draw the attention of a certain bird, and it didn’t take too long before the beautiful colored bird ca flying towards her direction, and it landed on her window, bringing a smile to Inna’s lips as she admired the beauty of the colorful bird.

"Aren’t you a healthy bird?" She gave the bird a gentle pat on the head before pressing her lips into a thin line.

Her brows suddenly rose, she left her window and returned seconds later with bread crumbs in her palm, which she fed to the bird before placing the letter on the bird’s leg. Stepping back, she watched it take off only to get lost in the clouds, and Inna had to admit that she would feel restless all through the day if her compatriot didn’t respond before midnight.

Does Elian have a connection with her letter? She couldn’t tell, and that made her anticipate her compatriot’s response.

At the back of the building, Elian patiently waited there as though he was expecting the presence of soone. He looked deep in thought, his green eyes flashing a painful glint, but that look Instinctively vanished when his pet bird flew to his side and landed on his left shoulder. Its sweet little chirping rendered the annoyed Elian even more annoyed as he rolled his eyes.

"Did she respond?" Glancing at the bird’s feet, Elian took notice of the rolled up paper that had been placed there, and he took hold of the letter, opening it to read what her response might be regarding the puzzles he sent, and an unreadable smile graced his lips before he walked out of sight.

Reaching the CIB, Cassian wore his usual black mask before getting down from his carriage. Since he wouldn’t want to blow his cover, there was a usual spot where Amadeus would drop him off, and then he’d head to the CIB departnt on foot to avoid giving off his identity to strangers who know him.

After the conversation he had with Elian, Cassian had to think deeply about his next move, and his senses would psychologically kick in each ti he knew Elijah was watching him, creating an unsafe atmosphere around him.

"Before I go." Cassian stopped in his tracks to look at Amadeus. "I can manage myself for a few days without you. It’s been a long ti since you paid a visit to your wife and family, and I think you deserve the break."

"What?" Amadeus looked dumb-stricken since he never expected to hear this. His eyes widened, almost elated that he could visit his wife in the lower East quarters, but rembering how the Young Lord had changed his mind about him leaving in the past, Amadeus couldn’t risk giving himself too much hope as the young Lord can be quite unpredictable.

"Are you sure about this?" He asked, and his heart eased when Cassian nodded, despite his difficulty to let Amadeus go back for a few days, but then it’s just a few days, not like he was leaving forever.

"Yes," Cassian firmly made up his mind. "I can’t be selfish all the ti, you should go to the house and get ready to leave for your ho, I’ll head back later with Orson when I’m done here, you don’t need to worry about that."

When he was done speaking, Amadeus barely knew what to say as he couldn’t reason why his young Lord had suddenly decided for him to go back ho. He was happy and grateful that he was given the chance to take a break, but it was still going to be a bit difficult not seeing his young Lord every day and having a mild heart attack because of him.

"Take the gifts I left in your room and don’t refuse it." He quickly said before Amadeus could think of expressing his disapproval. "If I co back to et them there, I’ll throw it away, so it’s your decision to make on whether the gifts get wasted or not. I should have told you this yesterday, unfortunately I can’t see you off since I have things to do, but send

a letter when you make it ho safe."

"You’ll be the first to hear of my safe arrival." Amadeus assured him, relieving Cassian who was finally done saying all he had to and turned to leave. Amadeus watched his young Lord make his way through the path that led to the CIB where Jeremy was held. A smile reached Amade’s lips as he started the carriage and left.

Upon reaching the CIB, Cassian slowed in his steps when he realized there was a strange ruckus going on outside. He spotted CIB agents making their way in and out of the bureau building with hurried steps, and the grave expression on their faces made it clear that sothing had happened.

Looking around, he spotted Orson who was busy having a discussion with one of the councils present, and he paused after locking gaze with Cassian who was still approaching the building.

"Just a minute." He politely excused himself before making his way to Cassian, not sure if he should be relieved or fearful to see Cassian here.

"What’s happening?" Confused, Cassian imdiately asked but was surprisingly hushed by Orson who gestured for him to keep his voice low.

"Orson?"

"Sothing terrible happened." Stated Orson as he ran his fingers into his hair, confusion and doubt displaying on his face as he t Cassian’s ’I don’t know what you’re talking about’ expression.

"What?"

"Jeremy’s dead."
