Fu*k. My head hurts.
[DOES IT?]
"Aarrghh!!" I was startled by the sudden shout. I opened my eyes, to see a startled boy in front of in a shaking carriage.
"Have you lost your mind?" I heard Rafael's voice who was sitting next to the boy.
"It hurts," I replied simply and closed my eyes. It hurt really, really much. So much so that I felt like soone was poking my bare head with radioactive needles. It was actually very bad. I had never, ever felt like this before.
[That's my power for you]
Hell. If I knew it would have been like this, I wouldn't have tried that and just looked for the barrier nodes. Unfortunately, I was too hung up on hurting a powerful enemy and I, for sure as hell, thought that I could take it.
I was wrong.
Allison was stronger than I thought.
'You're not just bound, are you?' I asked. If she was this strong and still bound, then it was out of choice.
[Close your eyes]
[It will hurt less]
I did as she said and shut my mind from my surroundings. Just the slight shaking of the carriage hurt as well and made nauseated.
I had never shut my mind before because I never had to but I had to this ti because it was hurting that much. I was pretty much safe since Rafael was with so a few hours of induced consciousness wouldn't hurt.
After a few hours, I opened my eyes again, the pain a lot less. It still hurt, but it was still bearable. I looked around, seeing the boy once again, while Rafael and Bayren talked to each other.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"M-?" The boy anxiously asked while pointing at himself.
"No. I'm talking to the lady sitting next to you," I retorted, annoyed, which made Rafael look at with nasty eyes.
"This is Theodore. He was the one who helped us locate you." Rafael said.
"He has the church's designated mana," I said.
"He does," Rafael replied.
They must have nurtured a spy, making him live in the church all his life, only his loyalty went sowhere else.
I didn't ask for anything anymore because I wasn't interested in it.
"You don't look so good," Rafael said.
"You don't say," I retorted before I said, "Crushing the power of a guardian isn't as easy as they say. It breaks one from the inside."
"Yes. That was sothing." Rafael said before he stated, "Thanks to that, the battle ended in our favor. Most of the church's forces surrendered while those who didn't died in battle."
"You shouldn't have done that," I said.
"What?" Bayren asked.
"You shouldn't have killed those people. We needed them alive," I replied.
"Why?" Bayern, obviously not well versed in politics, asked.
"Because that is what keeps us good in the public eye," Rafael replied in my stead.
"See? He gets it." I said.
"Well, nothing can be done about it now. Not to ntion that it was necessary. Had we not done that, the consequences would have been harsher and I doubt any of us could have dealt with that." Bayren replied.
It wasn't that his point of view wasn't illogical. It was a battle and death was inevitable and if not for that, they would have never been able to rescue .
If I was lost, then there was no reason to any of it. They understood it as well, only they had different views about it.
But, as he said, what's done was done. Nothing that could be done about it except try to sohow deal with it. The public was still on our side and we could argue that it was a rescue mission.
There would be so outbursts, but not to the extent that we would have to give up.
However, one fact the church still had on its side was my power issue. I had no mana. It could be said that I could conceal it so it never made any presence to anyone before but now that soone dug into my body and reached deep enough to check, it was obvious what their next move would be.
I just hoped the public wouldn't be too much against because of that. the church I could handle, the public, not.
************
Just as I ca out of the carriage, soone sped at and leaped into my arms, wrapping their arms around and clutching tightly.
Alicia, who was a little bit taller than held tighter with each passing mont and I could feel Rafael's eyes drilling a hole in the back of my head.
Seriously, I wasn't the one to jump her, you know?
Still, I didn't make her let go but even wrapped my own arms around her waist. "Thank god, you are all right,"
Right. Give all the credit to the very bastards who kidnapped .
"Are you all right now? No headache?" I asked as she let go of , touching her head and examining her.
"I'm fine," She replied with a smile.
A forced smile.
"No, you're not," I replied.
I turned to Rose who was standing behind Alicia and said, "Take Lady Alicia to her chambers. Make sure she rests until tomorrow morning."
"Yes, Your Highness," Rose replied with a stoic expression. You didn't need to tell she was angry with . I could tell just from the way she addressed .
I couldn't see Laura and Sophien so either they were waiting for inside or they went back to their hos. They were princesses after all.
"His Majesty wishes to see you," Bayren said before he walked away.
Alicia also looked at with a smile and was about to walk away when the boy who was in the carriage with said, "Long ti no see, Lady Alicia."
Alicia looked at him, confused.
"I was just about to pray. Would you like to join ?" He asked with an optimistic smile.
Seriously dude, did you not see her mash herself into under the guise of a hug? That's just… sad, you know?
"Who are you?" Alicia asked.
I looked at her. Now normally, I would have felt sad for that guy but that wasn't it. She wasn't just dismissing him.
She couldn't rember him.
I approached her and stopped her, "Look into my eyes."
"What is it?" she asked.
"Just look into my eyes," I said again and stared deep into hers.
I held my forefinger in front of her and said, "Follow my finger with just your eyes."
I moved it to the left, and then to the right. Alicia's pupil followed my finger but she couldn't keep them straight. They trembled between movents.
I looked around and saw a knight. "Give that," I took the sword from his waist and put it in front of Alicia, and said, "I want you to reach for it."
"What?" She asked, a slight smile as if it was ridiculous but I was consistent and said once again, "Just reach for it."
She shook her head and extended her hand forward, catching the sword only to miss it by a few inches to the right.
[Her brain's failing]
'Thanks for the consult,' I said before I asked, "Alicia, what is your na?"
"What? What is the matter, Adrian? You're scaring ." Alicia said.
"Just tell your na," I asked once again.
"Veronica." She replied, instinctively before she felt confused at her own words, "Eh?"
I swiftly placed my hand on her neck and put her to sleep. She fell into my arms as Rafael worriedly asked, "What is wrong with her?"
"I have a theory." I simply replied and took Alicia away. "Tell Grandfather I cannot et him right now," I said as I entered the palace corridors, heading straight for my room.
[ntally, she is fine]
'No, ntally, she is perfect.' I said as I entered my room.
I saw Sophien and Laura sitting on the sofa, enjoying tea. When they saw , smiles appeared on their faces but they were quick to disappear when they saw Alicia unconscious in my arms.
"What happened?" Laura worriedly asked while Sophien just looked at .
I didn't reply and took Alicia inside and put her on the bed.
[This isn't your fault]
As much as I would have loved to believe that, I couldn't. it was my fault, I failed to recognize the problem with her. I simply thought that Veronica was trying to take over her mind.
And I thought the only way to do that was to invade her mind so when I removed her essence that had penetrated her mind, I thought she would be safe.
However, I failed to consider one small case that could have missed anyone's eyes. Even mine.
The vampires. They weren't just unlocking Alicia's mories. They were also rging them.
Alicia's mories were rging with Veronica's.
She was becoming Veronica slowly.
But that wasn't the worst part. That was causing Alicia's brain to fail because of my interference.
In simpler words…
[Her brain is turning into mush]
