Power-wise, we were equal. However, every race has inherent qualities that make them sohow unique compared to the other races. Such as Orcs have strong bodies, elves have a great affinity with mana, and Vampires have strong bodies both strength and speed-wise.
Similarly, Demons also have an advantage when it cos to their race. Their mana is inherently dark, just like Laura but a little different. Laura doesn't only have dark mana but also the elent of darkness. Demons on the other hand only have dark mana where their racial advantage stems from.
From the dark mana empowernt, their skills are extra strong offensive-wise. Not only that, their normal attacks covered in mana are also stronger than those of the sa rank.
That was why, even though my shield was also at the peak of B rank, the celestial guard crumbled before the skill of the demon before . It bought enough ti for to escape the burning dark flas but it also made realize that the fight ahead won't be so easy.
Without wasting ti, I jumped at him but he was prepared despite his anger, he blocked my straight strike with that shield of his again. Unfortunately, I couldn't empower my strikes with mana or anything, my strikes only held raw power. Just as my strike was blocked, his shield also fell and I wasn't one to waste an opportunity, I shot as many canons as I could conjure in that short ti fra.
He jumped back to avoid them and nearly avoided all of them but was grazed by one of them.
Nevertheless, the damage I delivered wasn't much and he had also prepared his skill by then, "Dark Blaze." He muttered but I could hear him clearly.
I avoided the fla just like I avoided it last ti and no doubt, he would be anticipating that. As soon as the shield crumbled and I got out of the way, he appeared before , and his sword slashed at . I was also prepared and blocked his strike with my dagger.
His sword was heavy whereas my dagger was light and small so even though our power was the sa, I was pushed back slightly by that hit.
I didn't bother balancing myself but let the weight carry creating a small distance between us which I used to shoot magic canons at him. Once again that annoying shield of his blocked them but it also thwarted the follow-up attack he had.
Long-distance fight wasn't working and I didn't have an advantage in short-range because of that annoying fla of his. I decided to do a bit of both of them and used the sa strategy only with a little twist this ti. A twist of risk.
I shot my magic canons at him while also preparing my dagger. As expected his shield was there to stop the canons but he couldn't do anything about my physical attack. He t my attack with his sword and we ca to a halt due to each other's forces. Granted his side was a little heavy but I was prepared for that so it didn't push back.
We were both applying pressure to our weapons, trying to win over one another with the competition of strength. I twisted a little and jumped up, doing a flip over his head. He was caught off guard hence when my dagger was removed, he couldn't stop himself and his weight carried his hit into the ground.
That was my chance. I followed up with a barrage of magic canons. The snow around us was once again raised due to my explosive attack, when it settled, he was safe and sound with his shield around him.
I smirked as this was it. His practice in swords was explosive, not agile. That's how I was going to win against him.
We both shot towards each other and our weapons once again collided. I blocked his first attack and parried the second one giving an opportunity to land my attack. Of course, he was able to block mine as well but he couldn't parry my following attacks which proved my theory, this guy wasn't good at agile swordsmanship. He only knew how to attack and attack with power.
I let him attack this ti because I couldn't get a hit in. It was better to create an opening than wait for him to make one.
As expected, his attack held nothing but power which I parried and deflected to my side and slashed my dagger with all my might at his ribs that he oh so graciously exposed to .
Alas, he was able to pull himself back at that mont which caused my slash to be just a simple surface wound. No special effect was also activated from the dagger.
Just as I was about to head in again, he pointed his fist at and said, "Dark Blaze."
I jumped back and did a backflip in the air to get out of the range of his attack. He ended his skill before it ended itself and before I could land, he jumped at from behind, trying to attack with his sword. Of course, this was the risk part. If I couldn't avoid this strike, then it was all for naught.
Just as he was close to , my senses tingled thanks to my perception stat and I moved just a little to the left to avoid his slash that had enough power to hack into two pieces.
Unfortunately, the distance was too close for to prepare a lethal attack so all I could do was kick him which I did, right in the stomach with all my might. Imdiately, while he was still flying back, I followed with a strike with my dagger prepared.
This ti he was in my range but that damn shield of his again appeared, blocking my attack. Imdiately, he counterattacked which I succeeded in blocking but was slightly pushed back.
I pulled back and jumped away from him. He didn't let do so and followed up with a vertical slash of his heavy sword. It was easy to dodge so I simply just took a small step back, avoiding the slash. As his slash carried him, I followed up with an attack of mine, not only of the dagger but I also prepared about ten magic canons.
The shield appeared to stop again but this ti, my keen eyes picked up sothing. The shield was a little lighter than before. He was slowly getting low on mana. But the sa was true for as well.
My MP was running low and I didn't have enough breathing ti to consu a potion as all my focus was on this guy who wasn't letting have a second of wait.
Just as his shield disappeared and my montum stopped, he followed up with a dual attack of his. Not only did he swing his sword at which I effortlessly blocked, but he also used his fla skill that I hurriedly conjured up the celestial guard to stop. I moved back as well because, with this close proximity, the shield was cracking faster than before.
Alas, this ti I couldn't dodge fully and was a little grazed by his fire which took quite a bit of my HP since his fire also contained corrosive properties.
Just as I was a little distracted by his attack, he followed up with a slash of all his might. Instead of moving aside to dodge it, I decided to block it while using the dagger and the shield at the sa ti.
I succeeded in stopping his strike and before he could breathe, I attacked him with my dagger which he was able to black with the shield of his own only this ti, things went a little differently.
[Critical hit]
[Damage x5]
His shield cracked under my attack and I pushed through, my dagger pierced through his left shoulder guard. However, this SOB, instead of screaming, he ignored the pain and pushed his palm at activating the fla skill of his.
'Fu*k.' I thought as my mind moved slowly and just in the nick of ti, I rembered a skill that could probably save .
[Eclipse]
[A random effect will be applied to the opponent]
[Opponent's eyesight has deteriorated]
Instantly, I also used Celestial Guard and jumped back. The shield was broken imdiately and I was engulfed in fire but I was able to survive the attack.
[HP -1438]
[You have been afflicted with the effect burn]
[Your HP will decrease by 5 every second]
My HP rapidly decreased before my eyes but my true gaze was fixed on my opponent who couldn't see. He was puzzled and he was swinging his sword randomly. Seeing the opportunity, I didn't heal myself but attacked him with as many magic canons as my leftover MP allowed. About forty magic canons fell on him.
He instinctively created the shield around him to avoid the damage from the but just as it ended, my dagger had already pierced his heart.
I didn't bother going closer to him but threw my dagger at him with precision, aiming at his heart and I didn't miss.
I breathed a sigh of relief as pain overtook . A lot of pain.
[HP 113\\1840]
My eyes widened at the HP that was still going down due to the burn effect. I hurriedly used high heal only to find out my MP was zero. Even the effect of Alicia's blessing was proved useless.
I hurriedly consud an MP recovery potion as my HP fell below fifty and used High heal in quick succession about ten tis along with regeneration.
The burns on my skin healed slowly and after a few minutes, they disappeared. I now breathed a sigh of relief as I settled down on the snow, turning my head to my opponent who wasn't dead yet given he hadn't turned into blue pixels.
I was running out of ti and stood up to retrieve my dagger and get to Laura as soon as I could. The strongest on the other side was Rose but even she wasn't at the peak of B rank yet. If I had great trouble with this guy, Rose would definitely struggle against the vampire.
"That was amazing. I hadn't had a fight like this in a long ti." As I moved closer to the demon prince, he said with great difficulty, breathing heavily and coughing blood in the process.
My HP and MP were now regenerating thanks to Alicia's blessing but there were only a few minutes left on her blessing. I didn't bother replying and pulled my dagger out harshly from his heart. I then stabbed him in the neck and killed him on the spot. He slowly turned into blue pixels and disappeared from the artifact.
"What's happening on the other side?" I asked Allison, without bothering to lower my voice since only I was there.
[Laura is safe for now]
[But things aren't looking good for the rest]
I nodded as it was sothing I expected. There was no way those on the other side would be able to contend against a vampire while being at C rank themselves.
All the more the racial boost that the vampires have, their strength and speed would be a little higher than the ones of the sa rank. What I was wondering was, whether the artifact would allow that extra strength, or would it stop his strength at the peak of B rank.
[Only one way to find out]
I nodded at Allison's reply but stood in place. I was waiting for my HP to fill up. There was a problem I currently faced and that was how to get to the other side. As far as my gaze went, I couldn't see a desert and running wasn't an option as it could very well take two days or more. Who knows.
But there was another way. A very painful way and the risk factor was a given. That's why I wanted my HP to fill up before I attempted it because there was a chance I might die.
