Conrad Sterling never liked it when others interfered with his decisions.
Even if that person was his elder.
So hearing Jade Sterling say this, his expression turned slightly unpleasant: "You’re in a hurry to call over, then send Anna away, just to ask this? Did Jane Jennings co looking for you?"
Jade Sterling, knowing Conrad Sterling’s temperant, figured he wouldn’t believe it even if she covered for Jane Jennings, so she simply nodded in acknowledgnt: "Ahem... Jane was sent down to the southern company by you, and before leaving, she ca to crying about how she thought your decision was wrong this ti."
Conrad Sterling sneered: "When did it beco her place to comnt on my decisions?"
Actually, he knew that the photos he received today were Jane Jennings’ doing in secret.
Of the people currently aware of Conrad Sterling and Anna Thornton’s relationship, only she would be so bored.
Looks like his decision to send Jane Jennings south was the right one!
"You’ve known Jane since she was a kid... can’t you see her feelings for you?" Jade Sterling asked.
"Does it matter whether I can see it or not?" Conrad Sterling retorted.
In Conrad Sterling’s eyes, the feelings of those he didn’t care about were insignificant.
Even though Jane ended up having no relatives because of him.
But Conrad Sterling would only compensate for what he thought he should, he wouldn’t let guilt or any other factor sway his judgnt about feelings.
"So, ahem... you married Anna just because you like her?... Have you fallen in love with her?"
Conrad Sterling did not answer this question.
"If you weren’t interested in her, you should have told earlier that she was Kenneth Thornton’s daughter. Ahem... that way, Aunt Murray wouldn’t have foolishly tried to match you two."
"Aunt Murray, do you regret it?" Conrad Sterling asked.
"Yes, I regret it!"
Jade Sterling sighed deeply, her sunken eyes filled with guilt as she gazed at Conrad Sterling: "Conrad, your mother isn’t here, I should take good care of you in her place... ahem, knowing this path is hard, I shouldn’t let you walk it... Child, can you let go of hatred for Anna’s sake? Even if you can, if one day she learns the truth, it will be hard for her to accept."
"Kenneth Thornton is already dead, our grievances with the Thornton family ended as well! More than twenty years ago, Anna Thornton hadn’t been born yet, it all has nothing to do with her!"
As for the second issue Jade Sterling raised.
Conrad Sterling’s plan is: "I won’t let her know the truth!"
...
Anna Thornton returned with the dicine, and Jade Sterling was still coughing non-stop.
"Aunt Murray, take the dicine first, will you?"
Handing the dicine to Jade Sterling, Anna Thornton turned to Pop and said, "Let’s play a ga with mommy! Close your eyes and count to twenty, then co find mommy, okay?"
"Okay~"
"No peeking!"
Pop obediently covered her eyes with her chubby hands and began counting.
During this ti, Jade Sterling took off her mask and took the dicine.
Once she put the mask back on, Pop had only counted to fifteen.
Anna Thornton, with five seconds left, found a corner in the ward to hide and, feeling insecure, dragged Conrad Sterling over to cover for her.
"Seven eight, seven nine, er seven..."
With a sweet childish voice, Pop finished counting to twenty and finally removed her chubby hands from her eyes.
She opened her eyes to find daddy had changed positions, suspecting sothing was up.
She ran right over, took hold of Conrad Sterling’s hand, trying to pull him away, but couldn’t, so she crouched down and crawled behind daddy.
"Found mommy~"
"Wow, Pop, you’re so amazing!" Anna Thornton praised her daughter, not forgetting to bla the man standing in front of her, "Conrad Sterling, it’s because your expression was too tense that you gave away my location!"
Conrad Sterling rolled his eyes at her: "You’re just not smart enough! Can’t hide properly, with your feet sticking out!"
To be honest, if Anna Thornton played hide-and-seek seriously with a three-year-old who couldn’t even count properly, it’d be bullying.
It was one thing for Conrad Sterling to call her dumb, but dragging him down with her was another!
Watching this noisy family of three, a smile ford on Jade Sterling’s intimidating face: "Anna, is Conrad good to you?"
"Aunt Murray, if he’s not good to , can I complain to you?"
"Ahem, of course!"
Hearing this, Anna Thornton raised her eyebrows at Conrad Sterling, acting as if she had a big backer: "Did you hear that? With Aunt Murray supporting now, you need to treat and Pop well, otherwise, I can complain."
However, when Conrad Sterling gave her a serious look, the little woman said: "He’s been quite good to us! With you looking out for us remotely, Conrad Sterling wouldn’t dare bully casually. Aunt Murray, you can see that Pop is so close to him now!"
"Yes!" Jade Sterling nodded with relief.
Children don’t lie!
Anna Thornton still rembered the first ti she held Pop and ca to Aunt Murray for help, the little bundle eyed her father with unfamiliarity and fear while clutched in mommy’s arms.
Now, they could even play gas together!
Conrad Sterling had always been cold since childhood, so it was rare to see him willing to take care of a child.
Jade Sterling was comforted that he now had a wife and daughter; if he could put aside past grievances, just living happily as a family of three would be wonderful!
"Though soone constantly wears a cold face, with the weather recently hot, you get used to it after a while. So, Aunt Murray, you don’t need to worry about us."
Conrad Sterling assud this woman would really complain, but Anna Thornton’s words surprised him.
Even though they entered a cold war on their wedding day, no matter what, Anna Thornton still gave Conrad Sterling enough face outside. Especially in front of the seriously ill elders, she knew her limits.
"Anna, getting married to Conrad, are you used to it now?"
"It’s been good! In terms of married life, he respects my wishes very much!"
Hold on, was there a hidden ssage when Anna Thornton said that?
Especially since Conrad Sterling hadn’t agreed to the unreasonable demand of only having relations once a month!
...
After visiting Aunt Murray, they returned ho from the sanatorium, and the sky was already dark.
Anna Thornton seed to be deliberately avoiding Conrad Sterling; as soon as they got ho, she took Pop to bathe. Then, she shut the bedroom door tightly and refused to co out.
Conrad Sterling wasn’t going to let her easily escape the issue about the man at the café today.
Since she was hiding in the children’s room and refused to co out, Conrad Sterling would personally go in and drag her out if he had to.
However, when Conrad Sterling pushed open the children’s room door, as if anticipating it, Anna Thornton quickly asked Pop before Conrad could speak: "Do you want to sleep with mommy and daddy tonight?"
The little darling’s eyes lit up at the words, imdiately nodding in agreent: "Yes~"
"Then go on!"
Pop, clutching her toy, scurried off to daddy’s room, climbing up onto daddy’s bed, rolling around excitedly.
Anna Thornton checked Conrad Sterling, sweetly offering: "Tonight, Pop and I will sleep with you, aren’t you happy?"
Conrad Sterling: "..."
That night, Anna Thornton and the little darling occupied Conrad Sterling’s bed.
President Sterling still had work to do, listening to Anna Thornton telling bedti stories to Pop, with annoying nursery rhys swirling around his ears, causing him to repeatedly mistype on his computer.
When he finally finished his work, Pop was already asleep, Anna Thornton too.
Closing his laptop, Conrad Sterling walked to the bed. The little woman and the little darling truly were mother and daughter, both sleeping spread-eagle, having taken up most of the king-size bed along with their toys, leaving Conrad Sterling with only a small corner.
Moreover, the spot left for him had Pop between it, along with a large-sized Doraemon plushie, effectively creating a barrier.
Conrad Sterling didn’t lie down and sleep in that cramped spot; instead, he went around to the other side of the bed, to Anna Thornton’s side.
He picked up the hand that was grabbing the quilt, noticing the little woman with tightly shut eyes flinch her eyelashes slightly.
Conrad Sterling knew she wasn’t deeply asleep, so he smiled lightly and decided to put down her hand and take her into the bathroom...
