Not seeing the so-called proposal scene, Anna Thornton went to find the assistant director she had arranged to et before leaving. She still had an audition.
"Director Warner had to leave early, but he already ntioned you to ." The assistant director sized up Anna, then nodded aningfully, "Indeed, not bad."
"But having good looks is one thing; making it big in the circle mostly depends on luck. Whether you can seize every opportunity also depends on your ability to handle things."
As the assistant director hinted with his words, he slipped a card into Anna’s hand.
Anna looked down to see it was a hotel room key card, and she imdiately understood the aning.
She said nothing, and once the person left, she broke the card in half, curling her lips in self-mockery, "As expected, there’s no free lunch in this world!"
She just wanted to act, why was it so hard?
...
Later, after the birthday party ended, Conrad Sterling looked around but didn’t see Anna.
Instead, he ran into Henry Willow and Sarah Grant being lovey-dovey in the parking lot, with Sarah practically clinging onto Henry.
Upon seeing Conrad, Henry seed to have found a savior, "Young Master Sterling, want to grab a drink tonight?"
"..." Conrad ignored him.
"I’ve got sothing to tell you, you’ll definitely drink with tonight," Henry continued persuading, trying to evade Sarah, "I just saw Anna leave in Finn Grant’s car."
Hearing this, Conrad’s brow imdiately furrowed tightly, and he got into his car without a word.
Sarah watched Conrad’s car drive away, then quickly clung onto Henry, "I think your good buddy is a bit strange."
Henry shot her a warning look, "Don’t talk nonsense outside."
Sarah lifted her head proudly, with an air of a spoiled princess, "Hmph, I’ll say whatever I want! During the gift-giving segnt, neither he nor Marilyn Ford seed happy, maybe they argued. Why bring up my brother with him at a ti like this? You’re inviting trouble between Finn and Conrad."
Henry: "..."
"But it’s really surprising that Conrad would argue with Marilyn. Who would believe it if I told them? Their relationship has always been good, hasn’t it?"
Alright, it seems worrying about Sarah spilling the beans was overthinking on Henry’s part.
This girl seed naturally more dull-witted than others, always receiving news later.
She probably focused all her limited sensitivity on sniffing out any signs of intimacy between Henry and other won.
"By the way, Henry, I have big gossip for you today!"
"Hmm?"
"I think my brother might have a thing for Anna Thornton; at the party today, he even helped her out. I guess he’s trying to pursue her?"
"Ha, do you even need to guess?"
The Grant siblings always wore their hearts on their sleeves, eager to broadcast their crushes to the world.
Finn had already proposed to Anna, yet his sister was only starting to notice these signs.
Moreover, the signs were intentionally dropped by Sarah to intimidate Henry: "So, I’d advise you not to mix with Anna anymore. My brother’s possessive, he’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants. You can’t outcompete him!"
...
The second ti Anna sat in Finn’s car, the treatnt was entirely different from the last ti.
As soon as she got in, Finn took off his own jacket and handed it to her.
"What are you doing?" Anna asked, puzzled.
"Didn’t you say last ti that the air conditioning in my car was too strong? If you’re cold, wear more clothes."
"It’s unnecessary."
"If you don’t wear it, it ans you lied to last ti. It’s not about you being cold; you just zipped up out of kindness, right? Do you want to find out what happens to won who deceive over and over?"
Anna didn’t want to find out, so she obediently took the jacket and put it on.
Finn smirked at her, "Good, that’s better, I like obedient won!"
"You might be disappointed then, everyone who’s known long enough knows I’m deeply rebellious. Both my dad and my agent have been often driven crazy by my antics."
"A woman who’s too obedient is boring anyway, a bit of lively rebellion is interesting," Finn changed his tune.
"I’m quite fastidious, but I don’t really have much fun. Most of my energy needs to be on work right now, and I have a child too. Young Master Grant, do you know that most of the mothers in this mommy group I’ve joined complain about being neglected by their husbands after childbirth? I’m currently in that very scary stage where n perceive my charm to have plumted."
"I wouldn’t do that!" Finn suddenly said seriously, "I actually really like kids, having a few more around the house to liven things up sounds great. Why would I neglect you?"
Right, this was the sa person who declared a starting quota of five children, leading a harsh procreation brigade; she couldn’t use her usual rejections for regular n on him.
Anna racked her brains to find so other aspect to refuse, but indeed couldn’t find any.
After all, she didn’t know Finn well enough, and this was a situation she hadn’t encountered before; first eting was a kidnapping, second was a proposal. After being refused, he still pursued relentlessly.
Anna didn’t dare reject him too bluntly, especially being in his car now and knowing he was an emotionally unstable character.
What if she infuriated him and an accident happened before he could take his dication?
"Young Master Grant, do you really like ?"
"Yes."
"Since when did you start liking ?" They hadn’t t many tis.
"From the first ti I saw you, I thought you were nice."
"What was nice?"
"Your face!"
"Pfft..."
Finn truly was genuine; Anna had received many confessions since she was little, but it was the first ti she’d t soone so straightforward and admitted being a face enthusiast so freely.
She couldn’t help but burst into laughter, leaning her arm on the car window and sighing, "If only all n were as honest as you, unlike so who are difficult to communicate with; liking, they don’t say, disliking, they don’t either."
"Are you talking about Conrad Sterling?" Finn snorted, "Is it because of him that you won’t accept my proposal?"
"Uh..."
"What’s so good about him, Aethelgard’s number one introvert? Do you like that kind? Looks proper on the outside but is all calculative and worried on the inside. After marriage, it’ll surely be dull; he might even be sexually indifferent!"
Finn and Conrad seed to have a mutual disdain, each ntion of the other ca with jabs.
But aside from everything else, Anna could attest to one aspect.
Based on her personal experience, Conrad definitely wasn’t sexually indifferent!
When he got into it...he practically beca a different person, indeed an introvert!
Finn glanced at Anna from the side, continuing to find words to belittle Conrad, "You see, he pursued Marilyn for three years without winning her over; how pathetic. If you were with him, people would say you’re picking up leftovers."
"Young Master Grant, what you say makes a lot of sense. I understand the rationale, but I have my reasons for having to be with Conrad Sterling," Anna said.
"What reason?"
"Seeing you being upfront with , I’ll tell you: he owes a debt, and I need to collect! Plus, I have a feeling he’s going to confess to in the next few days!"
