XAVIER
The longer I stayed away from Nylah, the more resentnt and war was building up within .
That kind of thing could make a man go crazy even if he is an Alpha of a respectable pack.
I still felt that hate towards her, but my wolf grew restless every passing minute he didn’t see Nylah, and it made worried because she was my slave.
Soone I had under lock and key. Soone I could order to do anything, and she would get it done regardless of what it was, but it seed like I couldn’t get my supposed slave off my mind.
I rearranged my posture on the seat and tried to focus on the pile of work I had on my desk, but it was a futile move.
I could barely catch on to what I was looking at. All I could think of was Nylah. Her body, her company. Her smile.
"Fuck." I muttered and just then, the door swung open and Rex walked in.
In my bid to stay away from Nylah and the pack, I had also been staying away from Rex. Although we weren’t close to begin with and we saw each other occasionally at the office, he must have noticed my absence from the pack most of the ti.
"Need anything brother?" I asked, shifting my attention to Rex’s face without hesitation as it had provided the distraction I needed.
"Not really, I just figured I haven’t been seeing you at the pack lately and thought to check on you. Is everything alright?" He asked and I paused.
That was the first ti in a long while Rex and I spoke like brothers were supposed to.
We were always fighting and in disagreent but the way he spoke to made rember our early years together. Before he beca blinded by greed.
"Thank you for noticing and coming to find but were you scared I was going through an illness and locked myself up so as not to contaminate others?" I asked with a smugish smile.
He reciprocated the smile but didn’t say anything.
"Don’t get your Hope’s up now, I am not ready to leave the throne for you." I said again jokingly and his smile morphed into a serious expression.
"How are you doing though? Did you and the girl fight? it is unlike you to leave her alone and be in another place where she isn’t." He continued.
My smile also morphed into sothing more serious and my gaze shifted to the work on my table.
"As you can see, I am really busy and trying to get one or two things done. I just don’t have the ti right now." I replied but I guess my attitude sold away.
Even I wouldn’t believe what I said with such an attitude.
Rex didn’t say anything.
"I don’t think she sees it the sa way you do. I saw her a couple of tis at the pack and she looked alone and sad. And I heard that you sent her to the centre of the pack to apologise to the old man. Don’t you think you are being too harsh on her?" He asked but I ignored him just like I did to Brian anyti he tried to talk to about what I did.
The anger I felt kept increasing each ti I talk about her and I felt like doing even worse to her.
"Xavier?" He called
"What concern is it to you about how I treat her? She belongs to and I can treat her however I like." I replied to him and he was stunned for a few seconds.
Then, a smile crossed his lips.
"So this is it right? You want to discard her like you did the others?" he asked.
"Don’t tell that. The others left of their own accord and you are not so innocent in that regard!" I barked back and he backed up a bit, surprised at how furious I got at the reminder of the other scenarios.
"Leave if you have nothing important to tell ." I said when I cald down a bit.
"Fine, if you would go back to that then we better change the topic." He chipped in.
"Besides that is not all I wanted to ask you about today."
"Concerning that old man, Randolph. How is it going for you and the pack? Seeing that you made your own lady apologize to him, it seems like you have finally accepted him." Rex insinuated
"What do you think?" I didn’t counter him nor agree to what he said.
His face lit up with a smile.
"It’s a wise decision I guess." He replied
"Since he has what other packs would kill for, it is only fair we give him the respect he deserves. The goddess has blessed us with such a rare gift." He replied as the smile broadened on his face.
I nodded understandably.
"Anyways, I should leave you to focus on ’work’ even though we both know that it isn’t the reason why you have refused to show your face in the pack." He added and I felt the sudden urge to kick off all his front teeth and leave him toothless.
"Don’t co to to discuss about her again if all you will talk about is treating her harshly. I would rather you act unconcerned." I called out to him as he made to walk away.
Rex stared at speechless for minutes before finally nodding and walking away.
I continued the war from where I stopped and another knock sounded on my door.
I answered imdiately, not waiting a second. A figure walked into the room and I saw it was the old man.
"You found the place." I said to him, I had told him to et at the mansion if he had anything to tell so I was eager to hear what he had to say to this ti.
"Yes, I did Alpha. Thank you for sending the guards to pick ." he bowed in reference.
"Good. How have the pack mbers been treating you?" I asked and he nodded positively.
"There has been a great difference since the apology." His smile was broad and satisfactory.
"Good to hear. Now, I have done my part. What do you have for ?" I asked him my hands spread forth in need of answers to the questions that had contributed to what had been bothering all the while.
"You might not like this but the cause of that lady’s death is an ancient animal which is forged by pain and agony." He said and I arched my brows in confusion.
"What do you an by pain and agony?" I asked, holding myself back from asking even more questions like how an ancient beast was raised.
"it is known as the beast of death. It is raised upon anyone who had forfeited in his or her vows or promises and the only connecting dots would be Alpha Dmitri and his daughter. You promised to do sothing but backed out when they were expecting the most and they had gone to asures to ensure you fulfil your vow."
A sigh escaped my lips as the words sank in.
"So, what do I have to do to stop the beast from attacking soone else?" I asked.
"You have to fulfil your promise to them and marry Ivy, Alpha Dmitri’s daughter." He replied and it felt like a saucepan had been used to hit my face.
