NYLAH

The next day was even busier than the first. We had even more people coming to the hospital to express their interest in joining us to treat the wounded warriors.

On top of that, we had so warriors and so pack mbers who were rushed in, they were attacked on their way back from getting so wolf’s bane and thankfully, the attacker didn’t see the wolf’s bane.

Sofia was up and doing, and she helped out with ideas on what drugs or herbs to use.

Everything was going well, but we needed more supplies. More herbs, more drugs, more hospital supplies but no one was allowed out of the pack gate by the Alpha’s order and as much as I wanted to tell him about the supplies, I knew that it was too dangerous to leave the pack.

Not when there was war and our enemy’s n were lurking around, looking for wolves to kill to reduce our quantity.

Xavier knew this, hence his order, and I planned to respect it.

"We need to save every herb as much as we can and preserve the ones we have as well. We need to use the exact quantity of herbs needed, not more not less. As for the operation materials like the gauze, we would use it judiciously."

I announced, walking into the store where so of the volunteers were sanitizing and arranging so operation tools ready for the next day’s operation.

They all nodded and continued with what they were doing, and then I found Sofia in the office, going through one of the books I used to read.

"What are you looking for?" I asked when I saw how serious she was, scanning through the big book.

"I’m looking for a special plant that is capable of healing within an hour. We don’t know how brutal the injuries will be. We would need sothing strong enough to heal the warriors so that they can be on the battlefield in the next hour." She explained, and I nodded thoughtfully.

"That’s brilliant. What’s the na of this plant you’re looking for? I might’ve co across it." I offered to help her search for it since I’d gone through the book once before.

"It’s not written in English. That particular page about it was written in an entirely different language, the language of the healers." She explained her head bent, her eyes scanning and her voice absent.

"Wait, I think I ca across it one of the days I read through it. I couldn’t understand anything because it wasn’t even written in English. Hold on." I turned the boom to face and went straight to the page.

"Is this it?" I asked as I turned it back to her.

"Yes. The plant of life." She replied with a smile tucking at her cheeks.

"So where can we get it?" I asked as the realization of the lockdown dawned on .

My previous hope dimd as I watched my friend still smile with hope.

"My parents used to grow it here in the pack before their death. They used to hide it in a safe place in the room. I think it’s still there." Sofia replied, her gaze still on the page, smiling at the drawing of the plant on the book.

It was such a relief hearing that we had such a valuable plant to work with. It would make our work easy and the healing process even easier.

"I’ll go get it, then we’ll prepare it for tomorrow," Sofia announced before standing to her feet.

"We’ll prepare it a day before?" I asked, confused.

"Yes, it needs to be prepared by a healer and a strong wolf." I gulped as she excused herself from the office.

We had a healer already; Sofia was the daughter of a healer, so she was automatically one. But a strong wolf... well, the Alpha was strong.

I shrugged off the uneasy thoughts. It was all going to go well.

A few minutes later, Sofia returned with a bag of herbs filled with the exact plant, its flowers, and leaves.

"Wow," I whispered when she placed them on the table.

"How long did your parents grow this? This is so many!" I exclaid with joy as my friend kept on removing them from the bag.

"Now, we need to get them ready." She announced with a smile.

"Okay, wait, we? Who’s we." I asked, looking behind and back at her to check if there was soone else behind she was referring to, but the only thing behind was the wall.

"We as in and you, Nylah. You are stronger than you know." She encouraged, but I shook my head with resolution.

"I’ve never spoken to my wolf, I don’t even think I have a wolf, you should at least use soone sure of their wolf status," I concluded but Sofia was strong-willed and bent on getting to join her so I did but told her that if it didn’t work, she’d call another wolf to do it.

She read out the words from the book as we both placed our hands on each other’s, facing toward the flowers on the table.

"Ready?" she asked, looking at with expectation. I exhaled and nodded.

"She read out the rest of the words, and our palms shone a light that was then directed towards the flowers. I felt a power course through like a lightning bolt, and I felt so light like sothing sprang up inside .

"Do you feel it?" I asked when we were done, and she nodded.

"It’s exciting," I added.

"This is the last step, but only the healer can do this step. The plants can not be used when dried. The healer needs to make it co alive again to be able to use it." She explained, and I nodded and stepped back a bit to give her space.

Sofia closed her eyes and said so words in the healer’s language, and for so minutes, she waited and waited, but nothing happened.

She slowly shifted her gaze to . Horror was written all over her face.

Sothing was wrong.
