Lyla

Ramsey’s arms tightened around as he turned to face him. "Xander, it’s surprising to see you here."

"You’re smarter than Rian, I agree. I’m still having a hard ti believing that you would set yourself and your people up to lure in and gather information. I’m impressed, you managed to rid of my armies, and yet you want to take her from again? Rember what happened the last ti you tried?"

Ramsey arched a brow at him. "What do you an?

"Rian, the first Lycan Leader from White Moon Throne, whom Neriah was promised to do, I killed him and Thas, Neriah’s real mate, whom you stole. I killed both Rian and Thas. I made them fight each other. I wouldn’t want to do that to you."

"I am not any of them, Xander and whatever residue from your past, I hope you can drop them and realise, we’re in the future. I wouldn’t want to fast forward your death.

Xander laughed. "My death? Oh, Ramsey, you always were so limited in your thinking. Death is rely another form of evolution for those who are smart enough to embrace it. I have died so many tis that I have lost count. If dying is my fate, then I don’t want it."

"Is that what you call murdering innocent people?" Ramsey shot back, his voice heavy with disgust. "Evolution?"

"I call it necessity," Xander replied smoothly. "The weak serve the strong. It’s the natural order. I am strong, and I will ensure that your race is wiped from history. Your father’s before you killed my sister. I gave my service to the Lycans, and my reward? Taking away the only family I have."

While they were still talking, I caught movent in my peripheral vision.

Behind Xander, barely visible through the lingering smoke, Nanny was moving. She pressed herself low against the ground, using the debris from the explosion as cover. Her movents were painfully slow but deliberate—every step calculated to avoid making even the slightest sound.

I had to keep Xander’s attention focused on us.

"Can you stop living in the past. You cannot co after a generation because of the sins of their fathers?"

"You have no idea what I had to go through, Lyla. Neriah was going to be mine. We had everything, instant connection..."

"She was not your mate to begin with. You only approached her because you felt she could take away the curse from breaking the blood oath..." I fired back, loving the way his eyes widened with shock.

"I know everything about what happened in the past. I have seen things for myself, and aside from being a coward, you lie so much that your lies are beginning to look like the truth. Whatever hold you had on Neriah ended with her when she realised who you truly are. You deceived her."

"I didn’t deceive her," he countered. "She did all of those things because she wanted to show how much she cared about . I know you love , Lyla. You may not know this, but I do. If I had not held myself back several tis in the human world, maybe you would have looked more radiant than you do now," his gaze travelled over possessively. "Motherhood agrees with you."

I stiffened, sneaking a glance at Ramsey, who seed not to take Xander’s last word to heart. In desperation, I kept talking to maintain Xander’s focus and not give Ramsey a second to ponder the things Xander had said.

"You’re delusional if you think I’d ever choose you over Ramsey."

"Choose ?" Xander tilted his head, genuinely amused. "Oh, sweetheart, you misunderstand. This isn’t about choice anymore. You’re going to help whether you want to or not."

Behind him, Nanny had reached her position. She knelt in the shadows directly behind Xander, her hands began to move in complex patterns. Her lips moved silently, she was making an incantation.

"Help you what?" I demanded, forcing myself to look only at Xander’s face. "Destroy everything good in this world?"

"Create sothing better," he corrected. "A world where power isn’t wasted, where everyone is equal. A world where Ogas are seen as living things and not made sacrificial lambs."

Nanny’s hands began to glow with a soft, silvery light. The illumination was barely visible, like starlight through clouds, but I could see it growing stronger. She was weaving sothing complex—a binding spell, maybe, or sothing to disrupt the dark magic controlling the Ferals.

"You’re insane," Ramsey said flatly. "The old world order kept the balance. You’re talking about chaos."

"I’m talking about progress," Xander snapped. "About finally putting power where it belongs—in the hands of those who know enough to wield it properly."

Nanny’s spell reached its crescendo. The silver light around her hands pulsed once, twice, then spread outward in invisible waves. The effect was imdiate.

All seven Ferals dropped to their knees simultaneously, their supernatural strength draining away like water through a sieve. They didn’t cry out or struggle—they collapsed, their glowing eyes dimming to normal brown and grey.

Xander spun around, his face twisting with fury. "You ddling old—"

I lunged forward and grabbed his wrist before he could finish the sentence or launch an attack. The mont my skin touched his, power flowed between us—but not the way he expected. Instead of him draining my energy, I channelled lunar energy directly into him, disrupting his flow.

Xander’s eyes widened in shock as his power flickered and died. "What—how are you—"

"Holding you exactly where I want you," I finished grimly, tightening my grip. Silver light crawled up his arm where I touched him, binding him in place.

Ramsey and Caius moved quickly, along with three of my elite guards who had recovered enough to fight. They produced heavy silver chains from our ergency supplies and began securing the weakened Ferals, loading them into portable containnt cages we’d brought for exactly this purpose.

The creatures didn’t resist. Nanny’s spell had stripped away not just their enhanced strength but their aggressive conditioning. They looked around with confused, almost human expressions, as if they were waking up from a nightmare.

Within minutes, we had Xander surrounded—Ramsey, Caius, Terra, Sage, Circe, Nanny, and my guards forming a tight circle around us. I still held his wrist, keeping him powerless.

"You should cooperate with us," Ramsey said calmly, though I could see the tension in his shoulders. "Things don’t have to get ssier than they already are."

Xander’s lips curved into a smile that made my skin crawl. "You can do anything you want to ," he said conversationally. "But if you harm —even so much as a scratch—your mate dies. You know that, right?"

Ramsey’s confident expression faltered. "That is not what the prophecy ant. I’m sure of that."

"Oh, didn’t she tell you?" Xander’s smile widened. "The bond between us runs deeper than just old romance, Ramsey. Much deeper."

"Shut your mouth," I snapped, "or I’ll shut it for you."

Xander laughed, the sound was rich with malicious amusent. "Temper, temper. Though I suppose pregnancy hormones can make a woman quite....violent, No?"

I felt the blood drain from my face. Can soone make this man close his mouth?

"You claim to love Ramsey," Xander continued smoothly, "yet you won’t tell him about the baby. How is that love, exactly?"

Ramsey went very still beside . When he spoke, his voice carried a forced lightness that didn’t fool anyone. "He’s just trying to ss with our heads. Ignore him."

But as Ramsey turned to look at the circle of people around us, every single one of them avoided his gaze. Terra studied her feet. Caius found sothing fascinating about his damaged crossbow. Even Nanny, brave enough to face down the Dark One himself, couldn’t et Ramsey’s eyes.

The silence stretched like a physical thing between us.

Finally, Ramsey turned back to . The hurt in his eyes was so raw it made my chest ache.

"Tell it’s not true," he said quietly, his voice barely above a whisper.

I opened my mouth to speak, but no words ca. How could I explain? How could I make him understand that I’d been trying to protect him, protect all of us, by keeping this secret?

Xander’s laughter filled the terrible silence. "Oh, this is delicious. Even better than I planned."

But I barely heard him. All I could see was the devastation spreading across Ramsey’s face as my silence confird what Xander had revealed.

The babies. Our secret. Our future.

Now it was a weapon being used against us, and I had no idea how to take it back.
