Cassidy

Nine days ago (The morning after the gala)

The soft light of dawn streaked through the curtains in my luxurious guest room at the White Moon Packhouse. This wouldn't be the first ti I was sleeping over, but last night felt different.

A satisfied smile played on my lips as I recalled the conversation with Eldric Kincaid—Ramsey's grandfather. He had always liked , which made feel like the rightful Luna to the White Moon Throne I always believed I should be.

Last night, he had urged to win back Ramsey, assuring I had his full support. In his words: "You're the right choice for this pack, Cassidy. The perfect Luna who should be by Ramsey's side."

The smile lingered on my lips as I made my way to the kitchen that early morning. I was thirsty and for appearance's sake; I didn't want to call for a maid. It was important to seem humble in front of the peasants who worked in the Packhouse—to show that I wasn't above getting my drink.

I liked the idea of them whispering about my kindness. The soon-to-be Luna who treated everyone well. It was all part of my strategy because of how close Ramsey was with the servants who worked in the pack house.

He told once that they all raised him, so he treated them with respect.

When I reached the kitchen, I poured myself a glass of water, enjoying the quietness of the early morning. But then, the sound of hushed voices and footsteps echoing down the hallway caught my attention.

Quietly, I placed my glass down on the kitchen counter and slipped out of the kitchen, my curiosity piqued. I pressed myself against the wall, peeking into the dimly lit hallway. I spotted a group of pack warriors, led by Seth, the pack house butler. They were escorting soone—a female from the silhouette. As they passed by, a familiar nasty scent of pheromones wafted towards and my blood ran cold.

Lyla Woodland.

Hatred bubbled up inside as mories of our past at training school flooded into my mind. I'd always hated Lyla, right from the first day I saw her. Her father was not just an Alpha, but he had wealth that made him able to afford luxuries available to Lycans.

None of his children had gone to Alpha-based schools—the Woodlands sisters attended Lycan-based schools, went on multiple vacations and were the only Alpha family that had access to a lot of Lycan VVIP facilities.

Despite being an Alpha's daughter, back in training school, she always excelled better than in everything. The teachers adored her, all the other kids loved to play with her and at the end of every school year, she would go ho with an armload of gifts from the other kids and prizes from the school.

Even when I tried my hardest to do very well, Lyla seed to effortlessly win every competition. She held the position of little Luna until elentary school, and that was what killed every likeness I could ever have for her. Not to ntion all the teachers were sure she would one day catch the eye of the Lycan Leader and beco his Luna.

According to them, "It was her destiny."

I had dismissed the idea back then because it seed impossible. After all, I was the daughter of a Powerful Lycan King and the obvious choice for the future Luna of the White Moon Throne. But now, seeing Lyla here, so close to Ramsey, fear and jealousy gripped my heart.

"What is she doing here?" I wondered silently, following the group as they led her down the hallway.

Maybe they were getting her arrested for coming to the gala reeking of her pheromones and causing social disturbance, but to my surprise, they didn't head towards the holding cell, instead; they continued to the East Wing.

The East wing wasn't for defaulters or prisoners, it was for guests, important ones. When they arrived there, they stopped at a room. My heart pounded with rage as I strained to listen to the instruction Seth was giving her.

"Stay in this room until I co with further instructions," Seth was saying. "You can stroll out to the garden behind your room if you so wish, but not more than that. You're not to access any other part of the pack house until I tell you so. als are tily here: Breakfast will co shortly by 10 am, lunch by 2 pm, and dinner by 7 pm. An. Oga will be sent to you during bath hours, so please cooperate and rember—do not loiter around the pack house. Stick to the space mapped out for you. Enjoy your stay."

My eyes narrowed. Enjoy your stay. Really? They were treating her like an honoured guest. Why wasn't she in a cell? Why were they even assigning a maid to her?

My first thought was to march straight to Eldric and report this, but sothing held back. I needed more information before making any move. I need to know why she was here. Also, reporting it now would make look foolish if things went south. No, I had to play my cards right.

I crept back to my room and waited until it was ti for breakfast.

I sat through breakfast making small talk with Ramsey's grandfather, trying not to show the anger burning inside . What was worse, I noticed Ramsey seed distant. He barely talked and was playing with his food. He ignored all my attempts to have a conversation with him, too.

After a few bites, he stood up, mumbling sothing about going to work, and left the table, still ignoring . I watched as he left. My instincts told he was heading out to et Lyla. I murmured sothing about going to take a call and slipped out of the dining hall going after him.

I kept my distance as I followed him through the pack house. It did not surprise when he went to the East Wing—the sa place they had taken Lyla. My heart raced as I followed him, staying hidden. So steps away from Lyla's room, he paused. Instead of continuing there, he veered off and started toward the garden.

I sighed with relief and was almost going to call out to him when the scent of Lyla's pheromones, stronger than it had been this morning, wafted up to again.

That was when I realized Ramsey had been following her scent. That was why he had paused at the entrance of the garden a while ago.

My breath caught in my throat, and I moved silently, inching closer as I made my way into the garden. What I saw next made my blood boil with rage. Ramsey had found Lyla, and they were standing close to each other, too close to my liking.

Before I could process what was happening, Ramsey reached for her and their lips crashed in a kiss.

My entire body went hot with rage. My heart pounded in my ears as I watched them. Ramsey's hand was on Lyla's waist, her arms wrapped around his neck. I watched as their kiss deepened. Suddenly, Ramsey growled.

"Mate" as they pulled apart.

I thought I might be sick as I felt bile rise in my throat.

Mate? Ramsey had called Lyla his mate. The realization hit like a blow and for a mont, I couldn't breathe.

Without thinking, I reached for my phone. My hands trembled as I recorded the scene in front of . Torturing myself as I watched both of them make love to each other and Ramsey declaring once again that she was his mate and even went as far as marking her. The way he looked at her—touched her… it was proof enough.

My grip tightened on my phone, as did my anger grow. How dare Lyla co here and take Ramsey from ?

"No!" I thought bitterly. "This isn't happening. I won't let it happen. Mate or not, Lyla Woodland would not win. Not this ti."

Steeling myself, I stopped the recording and slipped away from the garden. I had all the proof I needed to destroy Lyla's reputation, to expose her as the wolfless deviant she was, unworthy of being the Luna of the White Moon Throne.

But I wouldn't act yet. Timing was everything, and I needed to wait for the perfect mont. But first, I would ensure that everyone in the pack knew a deviant was here.

Not now, but soon. I would spread rumours and turn everyone against her.

As I made my way back to my room, my mind was already working on the next things to do. I had endured years of intense Luna training, patiently waited, and put up with Ramsey's lancholy behaviour, waiting for my chance to finally secure my place as his Luna. I wasn't about to let so so-called mate ruin everything I had worked for.

Lyla Woodland had just made a powerful enemy.
