FIONNA

Fionna frowned, pretending to be shocked. "What do you an by that? How do you know that I don’t know who the man is?"

Marcus cursed under his breath, realizing he had slipped up badly. His mask of indifference ca back in place and he answered, "I assud," he lied, "seeing how capable you’re, holding onto such a love token is unbecoming of you. You would have only held onto it because you can’t find the man."

Fionna scoffed internally, revelling at how uncomfortably he was slipping on his own lies. "Can’t find the man? You just said I don’t know the man."

Marcus rolled his eyes. "An innocent mistake. Of course you must know the man for you to be pinning for him. I ant to say you can’t find him."

"You do not look convinced at all," Fionna accused, "I am so shocked that you would think, I, Fionna would be pinning after a man that I don’t even know!"

She could sense the frustration coming off him. Knowing so well that he was the man she spoke of but not quite understanding why she was being that all of a sudden. Since their journey to the Red Sisters territory was not going to be over until a few more minutes, Fionna decided she was take her ti to set up the beautiful ga between the Diamond Hostess and Kaliga The rchant.

"I apologize then," Marcus said in a bid to escape the conversation, "you know him or whatever."

Fionna sighed out loud again. "Do you know what his na was?" She continued in a despairing voice.

"What was it?" Marcus asked, pretending to be invested in the next scroll her unfurled and was reading.

"Kaliga." Fionna answered, watching carefully for his reaction.

Marcus barely twitched at the na. "Is that so?" He simply said, tying the scroll and picking up another.

Fionna was almsot amazed at his acting skills—now she saw why they sent him undercover. So that was where the true strength of Marcus DireWolf lay at—in deceiving and swindling people of their lives and feelings.

"Yes. He was a rchant in the North." Fionna continued, not breaking her act as well.

"You keep saying was. Is he dead?" Marcus asked seriously and the expression of eagerness on his face was just too much for her. Finally, she was eting a snake in human form.

"They say he is," Fionna answered, "but I don’t believe so."

Marcus reared back in pretend surprise. "If you’re referring to the famous rchant, Kaliga, then I assure you he is dead. Daemon’s father personally handled his assets at the ti."

Fionna shrugged, staring Marcus in the eyes, "Well I don’t think the famous Kaliga the rchant is the man I love. I think it’s soone else... soone else that pretended to be him."

There... there it was. The slightest tick in his face—a sign that betrayed the knowledge that both of them knew well of. The fact that he was the one.

"Oh, is that so...." He muttered disinterestedly, perusing through another scroll.

Fionna leaned back into her seat while their carriage jostled forward. A smile of victory snaked its way on her lips as she perford the last but most climatic act.

"Yes. In fact, I’ve had a hunter tracking him down for the past five years and he has made so progress. He reports that the fake Kaliga is from the South. Sooner or later I shall be receiving news of his na." Fionna finshed with a gleeful voice.

Marcus on the other hand stilled, then looked up at her. "And what do you plan on doing when you find him?" He asked in a dreadful voice.

Fionna smiled villainously. "Since he is the love of my life, to marry him of course. But first, I’ve to punish him for lying to ." She sing-sang, laughing internally at the look of trepidation that cloaked his face.

On cue, the carriage stopped announcing that they have reached their destination. Marcus returned to business mode, setting aside the scrolls and carrying the one box that Daemon had asked was for be delivered personally to the Scarlet Mother.

Fionna knew this mission was going to be their toughest yet. If not for the fact that Daemon had disgracefully sent the Red Sisters away the last ti, there was the fact that Fionna had defected.

A unforgivable and unpardonable cri that faced execution under the five Red Hands.

But Fionna had co prepared as well.

At the entrance of the Red Sisters Manor, twenty amateur Red Sisters, fully inford and with their weapons out stood in a formation already anticipating their arrival.

Already, news that the wife of the Alpha King of the North had spread allover the five regions, and posters had been put through the spy network that worked for Daemon.

The latter had been done to the effect of stirring up public anger, after all Zina would always remain the Great Seer who foretold the famine three years ago.

"A criminal cos to our territory," a voice that Fionna recognized billowed. It belonged to none other than the Arrow Red Hand, "have you co to turn yourself in for the cri of murdering the Sword Red Hand, Claw Red Hand?"

Marcus rolled his eyes—it was evident that the man didn’t quite take the Red Sisters seriously and Fionna could see why. Marcus was a Lycan Shifter, experienced in both war fare and intelligence. Although if she would ever advise him, then she would tel him not to underestimate those won.

She had been part of them as well so she knew the kind of thing they were capable of doing to a grown man.

Marcus produced Daemon’s official seal, carved to the shape of the Head the Arctic Wolf and in gold. "We have co to see the Scarlet Mother and representing in Goodwill the Alpha King of the North."

The Arrow Red Hand stepped forward, eying Marcus maliciously as she nocked her bow pointing the arrow at him. "In that case I must show you first the GoodWill of the Scarlet Mother."

And then she released the arrow.
