FIONNA

Since it seed that whatever this Sybril woman from the temple and the woman whose na for that day was ’Winter’ had to say to Daemon would be sothing private, Fionna found herself sincerely hoping that she would be dismissed.

She would give anything to escape have to feel the way she did when Daemon’s wolf commanded her to kneel. She had never feared for her life before, and the first experience hadn’t been fond at all.

She earnestly prayed that Daemon would send her to run one or two errands for him, but she had no such hope when Daemon commanded that Sybril and Winter enter the throne room.

Disappointed, Fionna realized that Daemon intended on making the eting a very public one. One so public that they must hear every single details of it.

Just one look at the woman who claid herself to be Winter, and it was obvious that whatever she would say would be one that would probably snap the last restraint Daemon was holding onto—if at all any. And then probably drive him to shifting into his Arctic Wolf allover again.

Fionna swallowed a deep breath. She was not the only one going through this maddening motion, they were others besides her. But what she didn’t expect was for Marcus DireWolf to step away from the front and center only to take his place by Fionna’s side at the back.

Fionna scoffed. She was yet to take her revenge on the man for the singular fact that she had not the ti. It had been less than two days since she assud her post afterall. Revenge was a dish best served cold, and she was taking her sweet, precious ti to make sure Marcus’ simred and tasted the best when it was eventually done.

"What is it, DireWolf?" Fionna gritted.

"Can you temporarily forget whatever hostility you’ve against and focus on the matter at hand?" He whispered back while Winter’s stride to reach in front of Daemon’s throne seed to take forever

The clatter of the wooden stick against the hatd floor and her whispered conversation with Marcus seed to be the only thing that echoed in the cacophony of silence that entrapped them.

"Now you are making out to be the hostile and unreasonable one," Fionna gritted easily under her breath, "naturally, rescuing her majesty is far more important to ."

"Good. After this eting is over you must pack and follow back to the East. There’s a mission we must accomplish there."

Fionna reared back and turned to Marcus despite convincing herself not to regard the man. "What do you an?" She said louder than she ant for it. Luckily for her, Daemon didn’t seem to notice their exchange. Or at the very least, he didn’t mind.

"It’s his majesty’s order and private mission to us."

Fionna blinked. "Are we not supposed to be headed to the West? Are we not supposed to be rescuing Zina from the clutches of whoever took her in such a despicable manner."

"If it were that easy, do you think he would still be here?" Marcus whispered back, gesturing at Daemon who simply stood before the throne chair, regarding Sybril and Winter with an expression cold enough to freeze the iron seas of the West.

Fionna had figured as much... that it wasn’t that easy. She knew that Daemon wouldn’t still be here, taking it onto himself to personally punish a re Capital Guard of the city.

"What are we to do there?" Fionna asked grimly, more determined than she had ever been. It wasn’t exactly care for Zina, it was a challenge to her pride.

Few hours after Daemon had assigned her the role of protecting Zina she had been kidnapped. Even though Fionna never got to assu the role of protector before the incident, her pride was still wounded. And as far as she was concerned, that was a blight that could not be so easily forgiven.

If Daemon was assigning her and Marcus to the East, then there must be so serious ass to kick. And right then, the only thing that could co close to curing her itch was so ass kicking.

And even that was not nearly enough.

"The mission will be disclosed when we get there," Marcus answered, "don’t look at like that. I don’t know what the mission is myself."

"I wasn’t look at you like that." Fionna snapped, facing back her attention at the two won that now stood before Daemon.

"Greetings your majesty." Sybril greeted while the otter woman seed to hiss out the words.

Wait a second... why did that woman sound familiar?

Fionna squinted against the almost hulking figure... there was nothing evidently familiar about her, at the sa ti, her voice carried a haunting distinctiveness that she couldn’t have easily forgotten.

Over the years as a mber of the Red Sister, due to her looks and rank, Fionna mainly dealt with the finer people of society. Alphas, playboy heirs, artists even. If she had seen this old woman, then surely she would rember her.

Exhaustion must be playing with her mind she figured. It was afterall true that she had not slept since the second tournant that imdiately led to the third tournant.

She was running on adrenaline. She knew this job would never be easy, but she hadn’t thought that such a major event would happen at the first instance.

"Rise," Daemon said impatiently, "you’ve sothing to say to , Elder Sybril?"

The woman in question glanced at them. "Shall I say it before all?"

"Feel free," Daemon said sarcastically, "the traitor is not here afterall. She is in the East... with my wife."

That was probably the first ti Daemon had spoken directly about Zina, and so casually at that.

"Of course your majesty. Before the Luna Queen was taken away, she already took away her staff from the castle."

"Is that so?" Daemon said darkly. Clearly, he was in the dark about that information but it was hard to know whether he was angry at being kept away from such serious news, or sothing else entirely.

"Yes your majesty. The staff was given to Norima Talga.

"Norima Talga?" Daemon repeated, "a Night Mage?"

Elder Sybril didn’t answer the questions of course, instead she explained further. "Her majesty also put asures in place should anything go wrong. Those asures are still in place. In her own words, the farther the staff is from her, the better."

Daemon seed to agree for he turned to the Sighter. "Kelkov, take so n and bring Norima Talga and that cursed staff before . Should anyone get in your way, sorcerer or not, dark magic or not, do not hesitate to rip their head off."

"Yes. Your majesty." The Sighter said, and true to his new, but growing, reputation, swiftly left the room to attend to the mission.

Fionna almsot envied the man. It was apparent that he was so capable, and definitely fitting of the position of Gamma.

"On the other hand, your majesssttty," the old woman, Winter, hissed, "I myssself must sspeak with you in private."

"About what?" Daemon said lethally, "I’m yet to ask you who you’re and you’re already seeking private audience."

Winter was probably hard of hearing. It was either that or she choose to ignore the threat targeted at her for she said, "To discussss the Luna Queenssssss looming death of course."
