ZINA

Daemon instructed one of the maids to bring her an extra cloak despite Zina’s repeated protest that what she had on was enough for her.

But her protests died a natural death when the announcer called out the next combatants. "Caspian Vampage from the GreenLands to fight against Mo’rinoe Malgot from the Mountains."

Vampage? What was Vampage doing there?

Daemon observed her sudden, violent reaction through narrowed eyes. "Are you startled by the contestants." He said suddenly, jerking Zina away from thoughts of the voice of the man who rejected her while insulting ever part of her she thought to be worthy.

’I, Jacen Vampage rejec... no, I shall not reject you. However you must be my mistress, you simply do not have the makings of my future wife, but I might find you agreeable in bed.’

Even though it seed like a long ti ago, those words were still vivid in her head. The cruelty of which they were spoken, and the crudeness of how he had summoned up her entire existence and worth to only be agreeable in bed.

Zina shook her head slowly in response to Daemon’s question while mustering up the best smile she could afford at the ti. "No, I’m not startled."

Daemon clearly didn’t buy that answer for he decided that he might as well hit the nail on the head. "Don’t tell you’re still hung up on your first mate."

Zina could have wrong, but she could hear the molars of jelousy grinding as he spoke those words. A jealous Daemon was new to her, so she found herself looking at him properly.

"And why ever would I?" Zina said, genuinely confused. Why ever would she be hung up on a man that had been everything terrible combined together. A man that had been solid proof that even the goddess could make mistakes with the bond.

"Answering my question with a question is not an answer, Zina." He said in a tone that was way too serious for what Zina had bargained for.

"Don’t tell ..." she stared in a voice filled with disbelief, "that you’re jealous?"

Daemon didn’t even bother denying it. "Believe it will not end with jealousy. I have taken the pains to invite the Vampage Pack to our wedding tomorrow and if any feelings still linger at all, I will make sure to personally bleed him of all of it."

Zina dissolved into laughter that had tears streaming down her eyes. "Don’t I find you really cute right now?" She spoke between fits of laughter.

"Cute?" He repeated his eyes holding all the intensity in the world, "don’t tell you think I resemble anything remotely cute right now?" He continued with eyes that held such intensity that was certainly not cute.

Zina abruptly stopped laughing. And then slowly, she recited the sa deaning words that Jacen Vampage had spelt to her almsot seven years ago. Words that once held her captive until she was freed by Daemon NorthSteed.

"What makes you think I, or anyone for that matter, will want you for a mate! You’re blind, have this weird haunting white hair, and your eyes... I’ve not seen them but I can only imagine what kind of sight it would be!"

Daemon squinted at her in confusion at first not quite following, but when the words registered he scowled. "He said those words to you."

Zina shook her head. "It’s all in the past, Daemon, I just wanted to show you the kind of man that you actually imagined I would ever want to be with. I am thankful, in fact, that he rejected . If not, I would not be with you as I am now."

Daemon finally smiled while he tilted his head to the side. "That is one bright way to look at it, I guess." He said.

Zina breathed a little bit easier as she looked on to the man that was called Caspian Vampage as he encircled his opponent who ca from the mountains and looked like the mountains as well.

Seven years ago, she had been rejected by her mate and betrayed by her family. She had been used as a tool to eliminate Daemon who was the rightful heir of the Arctic North.

A lot of things had gone terribly wrong, but now, everything had fallen into its rightful place. She was with a man she loved the most, and who loved her back too. She was in a place where she could hold her head up while accepted by all. And she was about to acquire one of the highest title a woman could ever hold on their world.

The curse had said she was the abandoned one, but she was now sure that along the way, she had been breaking the curse casted on her little by little.

Suddenly, she was no longer scared of whatever it was that was said to be inside her. If she could overco so much in the past, she could overco this too as well.

Caspian Vampage beca the last and fourth person to win the tournant, and just as Daemon had predicted, the winners hadn’t been up to five.

Caspian approached their Dias, bowing before his Alpha King. Close by, Zina could see that he was quite beautiful for a man, with features that were slightly obscured by the locks of his hair that fell over his eyes.

"Those who have fallen will one day rise again." Zina simply said to him, and Caspian in turn thanked the Theta for her favour on him.

"What next?" The council n asked, "of these four n, how will the rank be decided?"

Daemon stood from his chair, still holding her hands unabashedly. Facing the important people that stood behind them, Alphas, Betas, Noble Houses and the likes, he spoke in a clear voice that left no room for objection.

"The ranking will be up to my discretion."

And with that, they stord out of the place. An exit that marked the end of the tournant.

"What next?" Zina found herself asking even though she knew the answer to her question.

"Well, we have a wedding to attend in twenty-four hours." Daemon answered.

Zina blushed, but then suddenly turned somber. "What of the Sighter? He said my mom sent him to . He sohow communicated to through my mind."

Daemon could see the worry in her eyes as bright as day. He nodded slowly, "I must ask you to trust to handle this. Go on with what you’ve to do, and I shall give a satisfying feedback by midnight."

Zina nodded. "Of course, I trust you."
