ZINA

"So what could be the test of this combat," Theta Aurora mused out loud as the first combatants were called out.

Zina saw from the list that was circulated amongst them that Fionna was facing off against Basil NorthClaw. The sa man majority of the people on the Dais betted on.

She wasn’t discouraged in the least despite how much Byrle IceSavage taunted her, but she was honestly quite worried.

"It’s a five minute combat," Theta Gavel, the only male Theta amongst them, answered while pointing at the giant tiglass that was rolled in by a cart. "That’s a five minute hourglass." He answered intelligently.

"So they are expected to defeat their opponents in five minutes?" Aurora asked in an excited voice.

"So it would seem," Theta Molen, the last, oldest, and most silent of them muttered in a voice that held animosity and spite m.

"And what if none of them can defeat the other in five minutes?" Aurora asked again, obviously anticipating the combat more than any of them.

"Naturally both of them would be deed to have failed." Bryle answered in a voice that said ’was the answer not so obvious in the first place’.

Aurora didn’t seem to mind. "In that case, a defeat must happen."

"Indeed, and what is the fastest way to obtain defeat if not by death." Bryle said with a maniac giggle. Zina had no doubt that the woman was anticipating blood.

"That is not right, Theta Bryle," Zina interjected, unable to take the woman’s shenanigans anymore.

"What do you an by that grand Theta."

"This is not a death match. They are other ways to obtain victory without resorting to murder," Zina finished in an authoritative voice just as the first combatant was called out.

The kind of roar that took over the stadium startled Zina to the point she had to look and see who seed to be the centre of everyone’s attention.

"He’s the son of the Alpha of the Zardite Pack." Bryle spoke, answering her unspoken question.

Zardite was a well known mid ranked pack, and it would seem the giant of a man that now occupied the marked out combat grounds was a well known take with a capital R if the won that were throwing flowers on him were anything to go by.

"He is well loved," Bryle comnted while sipping her wine, "I do admit he will make a good mber of the NorthSteed subordinates to the Alpha King."

Zina rolled her eyes, "you an he is well loved for his vain body and looks?"

"What is wrong with loving a man for his vain body and looks?" Bryle attacked back imdiately, "Grand Theta I understand that you once took a vow of chastity. But you’re now the Alpha King’s mate, the matter of sex should not be that strange to you... anymore. The man is an attractive man who naturally attracts won of the sa mind. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that."

Zina scoffed at the blatant attempt by Bryle to both dean her and call her out on what the woman must have assud was Zina sparse knowledge on matters of the opposite gender.

Everyone thought that because she took a vow of chastity and avoided being alone in the sa room with a man for fear of amorous gossips, then she must be an air headed prude of the highest degree.

"So simply because he is an attractive man, that makes it right for him to sleep with half of the won in the capital? I’ve heard of this man and how he has often caused strife in married hos, between married couples, and has even broken nine or ten engagents or so. Does him being attractive justify such loose behavior which is an insult to won like and you?"

Bryle scoffed lightly, "Grand Theta I was rely jesting! Never expected you to take it so seriously." She spoke in a light tone in a bid to co off as being unserious.

At that point, Zina was fully regretting leaving Daemon’s side. She was beginning to see the reason why she had no friends because however could she keep up with the shocking ntality most won possessed.

The cheer for the giant man had barely died down when the announcer billowed, "and fighting against Garl Zardite is the man who they call the Sighter!!!"

The cheers died down as everyone looked to see who the unknown man called the Sighter was. Zina thought the na was familiar, and once the man walked onto the stage, she realized why.

The Sighter was the man who had vowed he had been with Fionna when the sword Red Hand had died. The sa man whom Zina had found to be quite striking despite his despondent appearance.

So he had made it this far.

Like an undiscovered diamond whose shine was hiding, he swaggered in, uncaring for the notable absence of support from the audience.

He was a five feet eight inch man with a lean fra. Of course, not exactly short for a woman. But in a room full of n that were six feet, he seed short. Even shorter while facing off Garl Zardite who was a solid six feet seven inch tall.

"Since we are quickly inching towards the end of the contest, all the combatants will be allowed to greet the Alpha Ming before the combat starts," the announcer spoke while Marcus DireWolf led the two n to the Dais where they all sat.

They bowed before Daemon who at that point had abandoned his wine and instead, had resorted to tossing grapes into his mouth.

He barely acknowledged their greetings while he asked them, "Do any of you have any special requests?"

Garl Zardite smiled naturally, exposing white teeth. "Might I ask for the Theta’s blessing before I start?" He asked with his arms spread wide and a cocky grin plastered to his face.

A cocky grin that said he certainly didn’t need Zina’s blessings but was just asking for it to fulfill a private joke of his perhaps.

Daemon was about to respond to him when Zina stood abruptly. She lifted off the beautiful bouquet on the Thetas table from its vase and approached Daemon’s seat.

"The man asks for a blessing, if your majesty doesn’t mind, then I shall bless him."

Daemon and Marcus, including the council mber that sat by Daemon’s side all seed bewildered, but Daemon shrugged, "As you please Theta."

Zina smiled at Garl Zardite, "the ssage of the goddess today is that unpolished diamonds will now shine."

The man’s cocky grin faltered as he frowned from lack of understanding. Zina smiled even broader, "Do not bother interpreting what I said. The last man to step off the stage between the two of you shall understand my words. And not only that, but I shall offer him this flower as the goddess has directed to."

Garl Zardite’s grin stretched further, "I shall look forward to the Theta’s grace then."

Damn the cocky asshole.
