ZINA

Zina froze in his arms, whilst her fingers were resting just below his pecs. Her eyes widened while Daemon’s eyes shined with sothing like understanding in them. Perhaps a recognition of her cris; although Zina was confused as to what cri she could have possibly committed.

And yet, more than the guilt that gnawed at her insides was the confounding realization that sothing had horribly gone wrong. The safe space she made for herself had shattered, and now, she was fragile and bleeding before the one man that she never wanted to show an ounce of weakness for.

"What do you an about Beta WolfKnight?" Zina chuckled as if that would diminish the sudden seriousness that engulfed the room.

In the face of acting like everything was fine and the world wasn’t about to crumble, whatever easiness that once hovered in Daemon’s eyes were nowhere to be found anymore. In place of it was... rage. Controlled, raw, undiluted, and honestly, scary.

Suddenly, his hands that were wrapped around her back to hold her from falling didn’t seem as safe anymore. It felt like a cage, locking her in and taking away her ability to breathe properly.

Now, she wanted to escape. From his eyes that sought to pry her secrets away, that is if he hadn’t caught wind of them already.

But the way his hold on her tightened as she squird for an escape told her that his sudden rage wasn’t without footing. And that caused the floodgates of sha to open as a wave of panic attack kept her rooted.

She panted hard, trying to escape, but he wouldn’t let. She used her free fists to hit him repeatedly, wishing that he would let her fall... but he didn’t let her fall.

He held on tighter, his hold on her a promise of eternity of this exact kind of grip that had now beco her own personal hell.

"You...you promised ... tr...trust." She spluttered, rembering the grainy bits of the conversation they had when he knelt on the foot of her bed. "You promi...sed that you want pu...rsue the matter anymore."

Daemon scoffed in disbelief m, and sohow, that light gesture managed to encapsulate all the anger that he kept at bay and under his tight unrelenting control.

"You ask that I turn a blind eye to a child predator? Soone who hurt you nonetheless?"

She had suspected it, but the confirmation that Daemon had indeed dug up the most shaful part of her past, a weakness that she made dangerous moves to eliminate, caused her tears to spill like a fountain.

"N...no... you did not..."

She couldn’t even speak properly again. She had even forgotten the mission that had propelled her forward to Daemon’s dwellings. Now, she struggled even harder to escape his unrelenting grip.

"Let..GO!" She managed to roar, struggling against him. Daemon held on to her and she only ended up bruising herself by the hard contours of his hands.

"No." He answered, that one word leaving no room for her argunt or tantrums. Sohow, that temporarily cured her panic attack and in place of that, a cold anger settled within her.

How dare he dig into her like that? So much for being the woman that would stand tall by his side. Whatever standing she possessed, whatever finesse she usually held onto as Theta, Zina watched it all disappear like dust before Daemon’s eyes.

He would never see the way she wanted anymore.

Now, he would know that she is utterly weak and useless. A bumbling twenty-four year old woman that managed to safely hide behind her trauma with a vow of chastity that she ordinarily would not have wanted for.

A coward. An inept. Sothing broken. Sothing destroyed.

When she said nothing but rely glared at Daemon, he spoke. "When I interrogated you about your lies when you visited the GreenLands, why did you not say anything about the fact that you were coerced with your Pack’s safety on the line?"

Zina rolled her eyes incredulously at that, wishing to hell that the cold morning air would dry her ever flowing tears.

"As if it ever mattered."

Daemon chuckled darkly. "Is that how you want to play this?"

Zina glared at him harder. "So what did you find out? That I, chanted as the Great Seer now was nothing more than the pack rag and a bottom feeder who could only beg for crumbs of affections?" Zina taunted, throwing caution into the wind.

"Or that a man who prided himself as a leader had his way with little girls night," she taunted him harder, barreling blindly into a blinding rage. "Or that the man had his way all the ti so much so that the girls he touched never remained the sa? Or perhaps did you find out just how good I am at forgetting such a despicable trauma while managing to act like my world is fine? Did you find out just how lowly and common I am?"

For so reasons, the way Zina spewed those words caused Daemon’s grip on her to loosen. He watched his hands slip away from her and resentnt clouded her.

He was already despising her when he had not even heard the full story. As she had predicted, he was letting go of her hands without holding on for much too long.

The thing about scarred things is that they are never needed. They might be wanted perhaps, but never needed.

Those were her foster mother’s words to her, and they never sounded more true as they did in that mont.

Before she could fully process her incoming grief, Daemon chuckled and the sound had her rooted in place.

It was nothing like his normal amused chuckle, nor was it anything like his dark foreboding chuckle. This one was straight from hell, and they held the promise of retribution without holding back... promises of unleashing death until all that was left was ashes; promises of destruction and vengeance while bathed in the blood of the enemy.

"Never have I wanted to kill a man so much." He muttered, eyes glowing the gold of a royalty.

Zina was stunned as she beheld him. The one true Alpha King of the North. The man whose destiny was delayed, but had now co to reclaim his place.

Those eyes turned to her, and her wolf both cowered at the intensity of it, and revelled in the matehood in them.

"When I’m done with him, Zina, you will take back every despicable word that you said today, and every despicable thought that has ford in that pretty head of yours."

What? Her thoughts? What did he know of her thoughts? But sothing in his eyes said that he indeed knew of them.
