"What is it? Are you feeling unwell?" she asked, and this ti she sounded very worried.

"I feel wet," I replied softly because I couldn’t find the right words.

The nurse imdiately had a look of concern on her face, and I knew that she understood what I was referring to. Without wasting any ti, she knelt down in front of and began lifting the hem of my dress. I felt my heart sinking as soon as she checked on my release. The way that all color seed to drain from her face told that it was not good. She brought up her mobile phone to the side of her face imdiately.

"Doctor, you have to co right away. There are signs of spotting," the nurse reported with a clear sense of urgency. After disconnecting the call, she turned her attention back to .

"Remain calm and take deep breaths; we must hurry back to your room now. The doctor will see you there," the nurse inford matter-of-factly.

"Did I bleed?" I asked, still struggling to believe that it was happening to .

"Yes," the nurse replied.

...

"What’s going to happen to my baby?" I asked before I could stop myself. I lay on my bed with a few nurses and a doctor surrounding .

"Your baby is safe for now," the doctor replied.

"For now?" I asked without concealing my shock.

If he said that my baby was fine for now, does that an that there is a risk that my baby won’t be fine later on? The sound of the rain beating against the window of my bedroom felt so irritatingly loud.

"Prince Leonard is on his way," the nurse inford .

After returning to my bedroom, I bled even more than before. The doctor and the nurses were very concerned, and I could tell that I might be experiencing a miscarriage. So many emotions swirled around in my chest, but the one that I could relate to the most was probably raw fear.

"Miscarriages are natural occurrences. Please rest and try to keep still," the doctor advised.

It felt like all I could do was await my fate. While I was lying in bed and listening to the sound of the rain beating against the window, I wondered if this was how Selena felt on that day. Thankfully, it didn’t take too long for my bleeding to stop completely.

"Mila!"

The door to my bedroom opened with a bang, and Prince Leonard was there. He rushed to the side of my bed, but he didn’t dare touch . The look on his face told that he had already been briefed by the doctor about what had happened.

"I’m sorry..." I apologized as I felt tears rolling down my cheeks.

I had been holding back my tears all that ti, but it seed so useless now that the prince was back. I was overwheld by guilt as I thought that this might not have happened had I taken better care of my body. I should have listened to everyone’s advice to remain in bed for the entire duration of my pregnancy instead of walking around, even if it was only inside the palace. I imdiately regretted my irresponsible actions.

"What are you sorry for? Our baby is still safe, and even if we lose our baby, it’s not your fault," the prince said to while using his gentlest tone.

He reached out a hand and softly stroked the top of my head as he brought his face closer to mine. I closed my eyes as he pressed his lips against my cheek. I reminded myself that the prince was right, and that our baby was still safe with us. However, I could no longer return to my optimistic self. I could no longer rejoice in the fact that nothing had gone wrong during my pregnancy journey so far given after what had just happened. Instead, all I could think about was what could potentially go wrong in the future as I entered my later term of pregnancy. I managed to avoid experiencing a miscarriage this ti, but what of the next ti? Just as the nurse had said, it was normal for the baby to start moving inside of , and as the baby matured, the frequency and the intensity of the movents and the baby’s transformation would only increase.

"You should try your best to sleep. If you want, I can ask the doctor to give you sothing to help with that," the prince suggested before lifting my hand and kissing the back of it.

"It’s fine. I’ll try my best to sleep by myself," I replied.

"I’ll hold your hand until you fall asleep. Don’t worry, I’m going to be with you from now on," the prince said before giving my hand a reassuring squeeze.

...

I wasn’t sure when I managed to fall asleep, but since the scenery that I was seeing was completely unfamiliar, I realized that I had already entered into the world of dreams. I must have fallen asleep from exhaustion after crying for such a long ti. That reminded that ever since I found out that I was pregnant, my nights had been peaceful and my sleep had been deep and void of dreams.

In my dream, I felt so desperate and so insecure. I was walking in what appeared to be a garden at night under the moonlight as a full moon shone down from the sky above. I looked up, but there was not a single star in the night sky. The wind did not blow, and it was all silent all around. It made feel so alone, and I was reminded of the many dark days that I experienced when I first arrived at the palace. Back then, it felt like I had lost everything and everyone. The pain of the emptiness was indescribable. The only optimistic thing that I could say about the feelings that played in my heart right at that mont was that I was fortunate enough to have sothing and soone so precious to that I feared losing them.
