“The ability to control their transformations and other associated wolf-like characteristics,” the doctor said before nodding his head once.

“Oh...” I murmured when I started to see where the problem may lie.

“As I said before, each individual experience this differently. Even when the ultimate alpha has grown into an adult, so have extrely good and precise control of their transformation while so do not. So can command their bodies to transform and then transform back at will. While so have very poor to no control over their transformation and urges at all. However, when it cos to a fetus...” the doctor said before heaving a sigh.

“The fetus has no control over this...at all...” I stated the conclusion that I had reached.

“Exactly. While the baby is in the womb, the baby may partially or wholly transform in an uncontrollable manner. Most human womb and body cannot accommodate this transformation and that may lead to a miscarriage or even put the mother’s life at risk...” the doctor explained with a solemn expression on his face.

For a mont I didn’t know how to react. The doctor surely did a good job in explaining in simple terms what must have been the greatest risk in carrying a hybrid baby.

“But there are cases of success too, right? I an, the princes are living proofs of that,” I pointed out.

“You’re right. There are successful cases, but I have to say that they are rare. For most people, they can’t even conceive in the very first place. For the very few who manage to conceive, most will face complications that will eventually lead to a miscarriage or even a forced abortion to save the life of the mother. It is all in all very risky,” the doctor said before pressing his lips into a tight thin line.

I could tell that he was trying his best to be honest although it must have been difficult for him to be the bearer of such bad news. A lump ford in my throat, and I had to admit that I was scared. My thoughts imdiately went to Roxanna and the state that she was in.

“Thank you, doctor. That should be enough. Thank you so much for your ti,” the prince said as he stood up from his seat.

“You’re more than welcod, Your Highness,” the doctor replied as he stood up.

I stood up as I watched the doctor bow to the prince to show his respect. Wordlessly, Prince Leonard took my hand in his and led out of the doctor’s office.

...

“Oh, you’re back already...” Salena murmured when she saw entering my room along with the prince.

“Your Highness...” Jessie quickly said in greeting before bowing along with Salena.

Unlike the other days, I felt like I needed so ti alone to think and sort out my emotions without the presence of my friends. Seeing them waiting for my return didn’t give any comfort like it used to.

“I’m back,” I announced softly.

“Mila is a little tired. Please give us so ti alone,” the prince said kindly to my friends.

“Of course. We’ll leave right away. Umm...let us know if you need anything,” Jessie said quickly.

“Thank you,” I thanked them softly.

The prince must have sensed my slight discomfort and I appreciated him asking for ti for us to be alone. I didn’t want to send my friends out that way, so he saved the effort and trouble. I watched as Jessie grabbed Salena’s arm and quickly led her out of the room.

“Co sit down, Mila. You look so troubled, and your face is so pale right now. I’m so scared that you’re about to faint from shock,” the prince said before grinning my way.

“I’m fine...” I murmured, although I wondered if that was really true.

I let the prince lead to the sofa. Sitting down next to him made feel a little more at ease but nothing could stop the throbbing in my head. Many things related to how things were organized in the palace and the Sacred Chambers started to make sense; however, with clarity also ca even more confusing questions. I understood the king and the committee’s desperation to continue the royal bloodline and the reason behind the drastic asures that they have chosen to take; however, I just a difficult ti swallowing the risks to the won involved that ca along with it.

“Maybe I should leave so that you can rest for the day,” the prince suggested with a calming smile.

“No...” I replied imdiately as I reached out to hold his hand.

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do but I was certain that I didn’t want the prince to leave. Prince Leonard looked very worried, and I knew that he was worried about .

“Are you sure? I think you should get so rest,” he repeated his suggestion again.

“I want you to be here with . I’m also fine, honestly. I’m just a little overwheld with everything that I just learnt today,” I replied before forcing myself to smile a little.

“You don’t need to let anything burden you, Mila. Also, there is no rush for you to make any kind of decision. It’s just like I told you before, I’m fine with not having a child at all,” the prince said reassuringly.

I stared at him wordlessly as I felt the pressure of his hand on the top of my head before he began patting it. The smile that he showed looked so carefree and for a mont, I was tempted to believe that everything was going to be fine and that nothing had changed. However, I didn’t quite like how resigned the prince was about this. It just felt so unfair that he had to be forced into making this decision because of the unfortunate circumstances related to the fact that he’s an ultimate alpha. Needless to say, the prince didn’t choose to be born this way and I didn’t see why he had to be punished for it.

“I think that I still want to have your child,” I said as I stared directly into his beautiful blue eyes.
