The prince’s cold and distant attitude truly disturbed her. It seed that ti alone could not clear the rift that had ford between them. Regina honestly did not think that the prince would remain angry at her for this long. She knew that she should explain everything to him and beg for his forgiveness; however, the prince never gave her the chance to do so. Her eyes wandered to his expressionless face before she let out a soft sigh of depression. Talking to Prince Leonard had never felt this difficult before in her life.
“This is the dining room. My father, I an...the pri minister is waiting inside for us,” Reginal said with a smile.
The maids opened the double door that led to the main dining room for them to enter. The pri minister stood up from his seat the mont that he spotted the prince. He bowed to show his respect while Prince Leonard raised his right hand a little to signal for the pri minister to drop the formal greetings.
“Please take a seat this way, Prince Leonard,” Regina said sweetly as she indicated with her hand for the prince to take a seat.
Leonard sat down at the dining table opposite the pri minister before Regina took the seat next to her father. The atmosphere in the room felt tense although it wasn’t supposed to be a formal eting.
“Thank you for accepting my invitation. I planned to drop by to have dinner with my daughter and I wondered if you would be free to join us. I’m very happy that you could make it. It’s been...many years since we sat down at dinner together like this. Regina used to co to the palace a lot more when she was younger...” the pri minister said with a warm smile.
“Thank you for inviting ,” Prince Leonard replied flatly.
“I made sure that the chefs have prepared all of your favorite food...” Regina quickly chid in with her sweetest voice.
“That sounds great. Shall we get them to serve the food so that we can get started?” the pri minister suggested happily.
“Yes, let’s do that...” Regina quickly agreed.
The prince’s silence did not go unnoticed by the two of them as the maids did their job of serving all the food that had been prepared for dinner. Although only three of them were present at the dining table, the food served could have easily filled the stomach of ten n if not more.
“What have you been up to these days apart from your work as this kingdom’s first prince, Leonard?” the pri minister asked with a smile.
The man had known Leonard since before he was born. When the late queen was pregnant with the prince, Lord Baldirius was already an active nobleman working in the pursuant of his political career. His work relationship with the king helped him a lot in paving the start of his political career. During his ti working in the palace, Lord Baldirius had made sure that he had an outstanding relationship with every single person that may aid his political career, and that included the king, the queen, and all of the king’s favorite ladies. When the queen and the king’s other won gave birth to the princes of the kingdom, Lord Baldirius made sure that his daughter was acquainted with them all from a very young age.
“Life in the palace is boring as always. I hardly do anything besides my official duties for the kingdom,” Prince Leonard replied smoothly although it wasn’t quite true.
“I see. It is quite unfortunate that we are all too busy with our official duties. Back in the day we used to spend quite a lot of ti together. Those were such good tis. Whenever I ca to see your father in the palace, Regina would always ask to co along so that she could play with you,” the pri minister said with a wistful smile as he recalled the old days.
“Those were such precious tis. Ti really does fly by so fast...” Regina said in her sweet voice before she turned to flash a smile at the prince.
Although Prince Leonard knew that the other two expected him to say sothing in response to their words, he didn’t have it in him to be bothered to fulfill their desire. His mouth remained closed and not a single sound escaped as he stared blankly at father and daughter who were so desperately trying to make conversation with him.
“Let’s eat...before the food gets cold...” Regina suggested as she tried her best to put on her best smile.
Leonard stared at the food in front of him without any interest. Food in the palace, regardless of which kitchen it ca from, all tasted the sa because the cooks were all trained the sa way and by the sa standards. The food here wouldn’t taste any different from any of the other als that he’d had in the palace...except for one...
“You two used to play with each other a lot when you two were younger. Everyone always said that you two were very close,” Lord Baldirius said with a smile.
Instead of replying to them, Leonard decided to put so food into his mouth. Imdiately, his lips curved into a little smirk when he found out that he was right about the food tasting absolutely the sa. Since these were also his favorite dishes, it also ant that they were pretty much the sa dishes that his butler gets his cooks to make for him almost every single al. Regina couldn’t have chosen anything more wrong and boring for this dinner that was supposed to be special. The prince put his fork down gently after having lost all of the appetite that he had.
“Stop talking too much about the past, father. Both the prince and I are grown-ups now,” Regina chided playfully.
“Well, it’s true. You two have matured in many ways. Leonard is a full-fledged prince now and you’ve grown into a wonderful lady. Have you seen Regina play the piano yet? She’s gotten much better at it compared to when she was younger,” the pri minister said with a smile.
