In the courtyard.
Yuan Zhenhai felt the cold, eerie sensation around him gradually weaken. His gaze landed on Nanli’s recent actions, and he imdiately guessed what she had done. He had already co to a conclusion in his heart, but still, he couldn’t help but ask, "Who were they?"
"Your forr sisters-in-law," Nanli replied. "Their souls were damaged, and they couldn’t make it to the Incarnation Spring to reincarnate. I helped them on their way. However, the formation barrier was broken, and now the Ghost Envoy can co here to collect souls. This will make it easier for the weaker souls to travel."
Yuan Zhenhai had not expected Nanli to possess such abilities, and he couldn’t help but feel a sense of respect for her. According to records, only those with the Yin-Yang Eye could see ghosts. These individuals were usually Death Gods sent to the human realm to deal with evil spirits and seek justice for wronged souls. The few who could open the Nether Sect, however, were extrely rare.
Besides cultivating spiritual energy, individuals accumulated rit and achieved power through good deeds. The more rit one had, the higher their chances of ascending to immortality. Among the various Immortal Cultivation Sects, the Limitless Palace and Divine Buddha Sect were the most famous, and their power was closely tied to their accumulated rit.
In Immortal World, only those who practiced specific sects of Taoism or Buddhism could see ghosts and spirits. Yuan Zhenhai turned his gaze back to the bodies that had almost turned to ashes. He had faintly seen Yuan Zhenxian’s ghost being burned by the Ghost Fire, writhing in agony.
His thoughts briefly lingered on the Water-Suppressing Pearl, but he didn’t feel much emotion. Before Nanli deactivated the formation, she threw another talisman that scattered the souls of Yuan Zhenxian’s forr subordinates. These people had done much evil with him, and in her eyes, they were no longer deserving of reincarnation.
Turning to Yuan Zhenhai, Nanli said, "Lord Yuan, now I should have the qualifications to cooperate with you, right?"
Although she still had not fully restored her true form, she made no attempt to hide her overwhelming presence. Her aura was so strong that it was almost impossible to look away.
Yuan Zhenhai smiled lightly. "It seems Madam has quite an extensive network of information. However, given the power you’ve just shown, the situation has now reversed. The question now is whether you would consider choosing as your ally."
"Don’t call Madam," Nanli said. "In this realm, I am who I am."
Since this was her personal vendetta with the Immortal World, she was determined to use her own na and reputation to seek revenge.
She added, "Just call Nanli. If it’s inconvenient when others are around, you can refer to as the Flood Wilderness Cultivator."
Yuan Zhenhai raised an eyebrow. He wanted to ask whether she was serious about the na "Flood Wilderness Cultivator," but that was a small matter. He picked up Yuan Zhenxian’s Qiankun Bag and noticed it still held seals of blood and soul. This kind of Qiankun Bag was notoriously hard to open.
He glanced at the disintegrated body and sighed. "Nanli, you’ve been too ruthless. Without the City Lord’s command token, it would be impossible to move the formation here in Seaside City."
"Let take a look," Nanli said, extending her hand.
She took the Qiankun Bag from him and studied it for a mont before stating, "This isn’t difficult. Please wait."
She pulled out a Heaven Star Brush and quickly drew a complex Five Elents Trigram Formation. With a hand gesture, the formation activated, enveloping the Qiankun Bag in radiant golden light. The bag began to slowly rotate. After a brief mont, there was a soft popping sound.
The Qiankun Bag opened!
Yuan Zhenhai was taken aback. "You can do this too? What can’t you do?"
Nanli responded, "While Qiankun Bags can be sealed with blood and soul, their difficulty in opening depends on the skill of the creator. The maker of this Qiankun Bag was not that powerful, so it was easy for to open."
"It’s not that I can do everything," she continued. "It’s that the resources in the Lower Realm are so limited. To put it bluntly, you don’t read much and don’t learn much."
Yuan Zhenhai thought about it for a mont and realized that while the resources in the Upper Realm were plentiful, there were still very few people with Nanli’s abilities. Her expertise in the Five Elents and the Eight Trigrams was extraordinary, and her natural talent was unparalleled.
He gently shook his head. "That’s not the case. The Upper Realm has plenty of resources, but few like you with such capabilities."
Before Nanli could respond modestly, a leader of the guards arrived with a large group of soldiers.
"Left Protector?" Yuan Zhenhai narrowed his eyes.
The Left Protector saw the bodies on the ground, the Qiankun Bag in Yuan Zhenhai’s hand, and Nanli standing nearby. He imdiately understood what had happened. Drawing his sword, he shouted angrily, "You dared to harm the City Lord?!"
Nanli glanced at him. The Left Protector was at the early stage of Golden Core, but he was not particularly skilled. His spiritual energy was weak, and his body was surrounded by a lot of malice.
The other guards, mostly at Qi Refining and Base Building stages, appeared no better. Nanli quickly assessed the situation and ca up with a plan.
However, Yuan Zhenhai stepped forward and raised his hand to stop Nanli from acting. "The Flood Wilderness Cultivator has already shown her intentions. Now, it’s my turn."
Nanli sheathed her Peachwood Sword and said, "You have a bit of a conscience."
The Left Protector sized up Yuan Zhenhai, his eyes cold with malice, but his heart was also churning with excitent. If the City Lord was dead, and if he killed Yuan Zhenhai, then he could beco the new City Lord of Seaside City!
A sinister smile spread across his face. "Yuan Zhenhai, you’ve been sick for a long ti. Do you need to help you?"
"No need," Yuan Zhenhai replied calmly, shaking his head slightly.
He took out an item and blew a sharp whistle. The sound was lodious and seed to travel far.
The Left Protector waited for a mont, unsure of what Yuan Zhenhai was doing.
He couldn’t waste this opportunity. The mont had arrived, and he could not let it slip away.
"Kill him! Avenge the City Lord!" the Left Protector commanded. With a swift movent, he charged forward, aiming to strike Yuan Zhenhai with his sword.
But Yuan Zhenhai did not move.
In an instant, a shadow appeared in front of him. A powerful palm strike not only shattered the sword but also crushed the Left Protector’s ridians and Dantian.
The Left Protector was sent flying and crashed into the surrounding wall, causing it to collapse and dust to rise.
The figure was an old man, dressed in black robes. His eyes were drooping, and his hair, eyebrows, and beard were all gray. His body was slightly hunched, and his age was hard to discern.
The Left Protector, now a cripple, struggled to rise, his face filled with terror. "This... this is... Elder Chen?!"
Wasn’t he supposed to be dead? Elder Chen had not been seen for over twenty years!
Yuan Zhenhai slightly raised his chin. "Indeed. You must be quite thick-headed. I’m not crazy yet. My cultivation hasn’t recovered, so how could I fight with you?"
The Left Protector was unable to speak further, his seven orifices bleeding. He collapsed to the ground.
The Golden Core early-stage cultivator had been defeated with ease, and the other guards exchanged fearful glances, slowly retreating.
This Elder Chen... had reached the late stage of Golden Core!
Although Elder Chen had dominated the Lower Realm in the past, he still respectfully bowed his head. His words, however, were filled with disdain. "Young master, wasn’t it said that from now on, even if I’m dead, you wouldn’t call for help? Why did you call today?"
