The Ruan family brothers almost lost their breath, while Shu Yu was already contentedly following Ruan Chengchun and his wife.
Ruan Dali’s ho is not far away, but it’s quite large. Previously, Ruan Dali ntioned that their backyard used to serve as an oil workshop, but later, it was exploited by villagers, leading to its closure.
The Ruan family once fell into a state of financial distress, owning a large courtyard but with dilapidated houses.
In recent years, things have gotten better. The old house was repaired once, but not extensively.
Later, after Ruan Dali started working for the Lu family and beca a steward, his wages increased significantly and he received performance bonuses at the end of the year. Additionally, with other mbers of the Ruan family working hard, their lives improved considerably.
Over the past couple of years, they saved quite a bit of money, and just last month, the Ruan family renovated the house completely.
So, at this mont, the Ruan Dali ho looks brand new and even boasts so brick and tile structures.
The Ruan family currently consists of Ruan Chengchun and his wife, Ruan Dali, and Ruan Chengchun’s younger brother, along with his wife and their five or six-year-old daughter.
Since Ruan Dali usually doesn’t stay at ho, there are indeed not too many people in the Ruan family.
Upon entering, Shu Yu looked around. The environnt was nice and refreshing. She then said to Village Chief Ruan, who had brought her over, "I think it’s quite good here, so I’ll stay here tonight. Village Chief Ruan, you can go about your business."
"Alright, the county magistrate must be tired today, we won’t disturb you."
He respectfully bowed and left the Ruan family residence.
Once the courtyard gate was closed, Mother Zhang of the Ruan family said, "County magistrate, please this way. How about the room on the left? No one has stayed there since it was refurbished. I’ll get it ready for you."
"Thank you." Shu Yu had no objections. The room was quite spacious, the lighting was good, and it was not too close to the owner’s quarters, making it very peaceful.
Mother Zhang went to prepare, while Shu Yu asked Ying Xi to take down the at and vegetables they brought with them from the carriage.
The Ruan family was taken aback, not expecting her to bring her own ingredients, as if... she had prepared in advance.
But the Ruan family didn’t say anything; Mother Zhang and her sister-in-law Ms. Wang went to clean the room, and Ruan Chengchun and his brother Ruan Chengqian entertained Shu Yu.
Compared to the reserved Ruan Chengchun, Ruan Chengqian was much more open.
Noticing the young girl behind him curiously observing her, Shu Yu took out a few candies and handed them over.
The young girl glanced at her father, and only when he nodded did she cautiously accept them, thoughtfully whispering a thank you before Ruan Chengqian nudged her to find her mother.
Once the little girl left, Shu Yu raised her head and said to them, "Find a suitable place to talk, I have so questions for you."
Ruan Chengchun was taken aback, while Ruan Chengqian quickly led Shu Yu to a nearby room.
As soon as the door closed, Shu Yu asked, "I’d like to inquire about any leverage against Village Chief Ruan."
Leverage???
The brothers were stunned. After a mont, Ruan Chengqian cautiously asked, "The county magistrate ans..."
"I’m really fed up with them always targeting my mother. It’s nothing serious; I just want to teach him a lesson, so he won’t keep eyeing our family."
She spoke casually and frankly, seemingly indifferent to whether they would spread her words.
But in the next mont, Ruan Chengqian suddenly knelt before Shu Yu with a ’thud’.
