That afternoon
a figure appeared in Ulan's room; a man with an expressionless face. It was the assigned Inspector.
"Your disciplinary action has been revised."
It was a sudden statent.
Ulan raised his head curiously and asked, "Does that an my statent has been accepted?"
"That seems to be the case. Also, fortunately, we were able to secure additional evidence."
"Additional evidence?"
"Here it is."
He pulled out a large orb.
"This is a video recording device installed by the professors of the Magic Departnt to record the second match. Due to its large storage capacity, it recorded your conversation with Himl Deorg as well."
As a result, all of Ulan's statents were recognized as true and accepted. As a result, a committee was convened ahead of schedule and his punishnt was revised.
"Firstly, the expulsion warning has been revoked. It was adjusted based on the evidence that Himl Deorg tarnished the honor of a peer."
Thats good to hear. Ulan thought to himself.
"Next, your suspension has also been reduced from 30 days to 20 days, and the restriction on sobriety has been lifted."
"Does that an......?"
"You won't be able to attend lectures, but you're free to move around in the areas that freshn are allowed. Interaction with others is also allowed."
That was the most pleasing part, especially the fact that he could now freely visit the cafeteria without having to go to the forest to gather fruit.
"However, the ban on participating in competitions and matches will be maintained for the ti being. This is because it is a fact that you turned Himl Deorg into a rag."
Ulan lacked self-control; and there were many risks.
The decision was based on a common sentint among the first and second committees to prevent the sa damage from happening again.
Of course, there was a separate reason for this decision.
'This decision is advantageous to the Empire.'
If he were to participate in international events like a mock battle, his true abilities could be exposed to the eyes of other kingdoms.
This is not what the military wants.
So the decision was made to keep the restrictions of the competition ban in place.
"That concludes the ssage."
The Inspector turned away, as if he was done talking, and just then, Ulan bowed his head slightly toward him, "I appreciate your efforts."
"It's not sothing to be thankful for. I just carried out the given mission."
Was it because his official duties were over? The Inspector smirked; the expressionless face naturally relaxed.
"However, I've co to see you a little differently after this incident."
"What do you an?"
"The reason you left the room yesterday."
His eyes grew serious.
"I can't believe you did it to prevent the students from being hard. I'm ashad that I had other thoughts for a mont."
He rubbed his forehead and sighed.
What did he think?
Ulan felt inclined to ask, but he didn't need to. The Inspector answered for himself, "I doubted whether you went out because the als I brought were insufficient."
"......."
"Even if you're a barbarian, it wouldn't make sense for you to go out for that reason. Anyway, I'm sorry for misunderstanding. Rest well."
After patting Ulan on the shoulder,
the supervising Inspector left the room, unaware that his guess was the perfect answer.
"As expected, a sharp person."
With that whispered,
Ulan reached under the bed. After a while, what ca into his hand was a gray-colored axe Gula, the Axe of Gluttony.
However, the mont he grasped the hilt, he suddenly felt a sticky sensation.
It was the sa sensation he felt yesterday when he was pulling out the stake in the forest. It was Gula, trying to drain its owner of his mana.
"It fits nicely in my hand."
On the other hand, Ulan, unaware of this fact, just wore a satisfied smile. Soon, he slowly examined Gula's appearance.
As he did, he noticed a few peculiarities.
"It has shrunk since the last ti I saw it."
When it was stuck in the neck of the white wolf, Gula was smaller than a regular two-handed axe but larger than a regular hatchet. However, now, Gula was of a size almost indistinguishable from a regular hatchet.
"Did I go too far in taming it?"
Ulan speculated that maybe he treated Gula too harshly during the taming process, causing it to shrink. It was not a significant concern, as the size was still comfortable enough for use as a regular hatchet.
And one more thing.
He noticed sothing else.
"The blade is back to normal."
As ntioned earlier, Ulan had damaged a large portion of the axe's blade when he tad Gula. So much so that he couldn't use it without sharpening it.
But now, Gula has recovered about half of its blade. It must have absorbed the mana in the air and repaired itself, just like he read in the book.
"In this case, I don't need to ask for help."
Originally, he was thinking of going to Noah or Dilia to get so mana. Ulan smiled contentedly, feeling satisfied.
As he continued to observe Gula,
suddenly, he sniffed; a scent he didn't usually sll.
It was the scent of a beast. More specifically, it slled like a wolf. When he was searching for the source of the sll and looking around
"You......."
he quickly found the source.
A white furball sitting by the window. It was none other than the white wolf he saw for the last ti in the crypt yesterday.
"How did you find your way here?"
Ulan squinted his eyes. However, no answer ca.
Naturally. Wolves don't know how to speak human language, even if it was a spirit beast.
"Have you been following ?"
At that mont, the white wolf nodded.
Although it didn't know how to speak, it seed to understand human language. In response, Ulan scratched his head and spoke, "If your purpose is to find a hunting ground, you've chosen the wrong place. There's nothing for you to eat here."
As soon as the sincere advice ended
Tuk!
the white wolf dropped what it was holding in its mouth.
It was the tree fruit that Ulan ate yesterday. Ulan, who caught it, tilted his head, "You want to eat it?"
The white wolf nodded again.
There was no reason to refuse. Besides, he was a bit hungry.
Ulan munched on the berries.
In the anti
Hop!
the white wolf leapt from the windowsill and approached.
As there was no sense of hostility, Ulan left it alone. Then, in one swift motion, it climbed up Ulan's body to his shoulders.
It should have a certain weight, yet strangely, it felt almost weightless. It conveyed a feeling of fluffiness and softness.
After that, the white wolf moved to Ulan's back. Specifically, the area where the Mark of a Hero was engraved. It started rubbing its head there
[Purr, Purr!]
while making a sound that sohow resembled a cat.
Amidst this unexpected turn of events, Ulan couldnt help but chuckle, "What a peculiar creature."
After eating the berries clean, Ulan opened the slanted window wide.
So that the white wolf could return to the forest. However, the problem was that it didn't seem like it wanted to leave.
"Go back to the forest."
So he spoke, but the white wolf looked blankly as if it didn't understand anything; it understood the topic well before.
When Ulan narrowed his eyes, the white wolf jumped onto the bed.
[Garrrr, Grrrr]
With an unintelligible reply, the white wolf burrowed under the covers.
Why is it doing that? Ulan pondered, but he couldn't figure it out. Then, a conjecture crossed his mind.
'Is it so kind of temporary resting place?'
The white wolf had just returned from being a demonic beast to a spirit beast. Perhaps it was looking for a comfortable place to rest and recuperate before heading out on a long journey.
After making his judgnt
Ulan nodded readily, "Alright, do as you please."
Since it was thanks to the white wolf that Ulan got Gula.
The least he could do was give Bai Lang a resting place for a while. As soon as Ulan gave his permission, the white wolf slipped out of the futon.
[Grrrr]
As if to say it was all according to plan.
With a satisfied smile
the white wolf snuggled closer to Ulan's back, curled up, and closed its eyes. It was the first relaxed expression it had worn since it woke up from the seal.
***** After the tumult caused by the white wolf incident
ti flew by and it was the end of March.
Soon, spring would arrive at the Academy.
Just as the fierce northern winds had turned a bit warr, there were also changes in the academy. The most significant change was that visiting was allowed.
With the entrance ceremony having taken place a full month ago,
As the weekend approached, parental visits were permitted for all new students. Therefore, on this day, a considerable number of parents visited the academy.
"Everyone, please wait your turn!"
"We will enter in order!"
At the main entrance of Arsene Academy,
the guards worked diligently, organizing the queue. Even though it was a visit from parents, entering Arsene required following certain procedures.
First, IDs were checked, and any potentially dangerous belongings were confiscated and kept in custody by the guards.
Next, a docunt detailing the purpose, duration, and residence during the visit had to be filled out and submitted. Only after approval was granted could entry be permitted.
Was that the reason? Entering Arsene Academy was notorious for consuming an unusually long amount of ti.
So, as the queue buzzed with activity today,
Bam! Bam! Bam!
the next parent arrived.
A man with blond hair, donned in a black coat. He had three peculiarities compared to the other parents.
Firstly, he appeared notably younger than the other parents. Secondly, he ca alone without any companions or employees. Thirdly, a longsword was strapped to his waist.
The guard, Durek, assigned to serve the visitors, sighed inwardly. He had a feeling this visitor was going to take up quite a bit of his ti.
"May I have your ID, please?"
"Here it is."
The man readily complied with the instruction.
Durek imdiately began to fill out the paperwork.
Or, at least, he tried.
"......!?"
However, the mont he confird the na, he looked at the man in front of him, surprised as if struck by lightning.
At that ti, the man suddenly spoke up.
"That's quite a big scar."
Indeed, on Durek's left eye, an unmistakably grueso scar remained. The place where an eye should be was hollowed out.
anwhile, as the man's words ca to an end,
Durek smiled and answered, "Haha, it's a great pride of mine, trading one eyeball of mine for thirty desert heretics. It's a lifelong accomplishnt."
The Desert Heretics.
At the ntion of this, the man's gaze changed.
"Were you on the Southern Front?"
"Yes, I was discharged six years ago."
"Where did you get your scars?"
"It was the Battle of the Red Desert. Those damn heretics ca charging out of nowhere, bombs strapped to them, so I couldn't think straight," Durek replied.
The man nodded in silence. As if suddenly rembering sothing old.
"It was a fierce battle. About half of the recruits panicked and ran away, ending up dead."
"Yes, it was horrifying."
"Still, thanks to the soldiers who held their ground until the end, we could secure the victory. Oh, by the way, there was a soldier who fought side by side with at the ti."
With a sudden remark,
Durek's right eye trembled slightly.
"...Which soldier was that?"
"Ordered to retreat, yet he fought to the end, losing his left eye. Still, he managed to kill a lot of heretics, just like you. He laughed, saying it was like a hero's tale."
"Well, thats because he fought alongside a legend," Durek burst into laughter.
It was a smile tinged with relief, satisfaction, and a hint of sentint. With that conversation concluded, Durek imdiately shouted towards the inside of the main gate.
"The paperwork is complete! Open the door!"
"Huh? It's over already?"
"Yes. Allow him in."
With Durek's reply, the iron gate swung open.
The man, who received his ID back, smiled lightly and bowed his head, "Thank you for your consideration."
"It's nothing," Durek replied with a smile.
As the man proceeded into the academy,
"It's an honor to see you again!"
With a hearty shout
Durek stepped out of the sentry box and imdiately stood at attention. He then saluted gracefully and shouted, "Welco to Arsene Academy, Your Excellency the Count!"
"Good to see you too, Sergeant Durek."
After a brief exchange of salutes,
the man turned and walked away.
Istan el Deorg.
Commander of the Southern Front and one of the Five Swords of the Empire. Commonly known as 'Count Deorg,' he had visited Arsene Academy.
