Under the radiant light, Beldia's body rapidly faded.
With a long sigh, he vanished before their eyes.

Aqua froze in place.
"That's weird, my purification magic wasn't supposed to work on him?"
Last ti it didn't work at all, so why did it suddenly take effect now?
"Did we just defeat a Demon Lord Army officer?"
Darkness and gumin exchanged glances, their faces filled with disbelief.
"From now on, call the Officer Slayer!"
gumin puffed out her chest proudly.
Darkness couldn't help but smile warmly.

A piercing shriek suddenly rang out, startling the three of them.
"What's wrong, Kazuma? We just defeated an officer! You should be happy!"
"Happy my ass! Don't you get it?"
Kazuma Satou's face twisted in horror as he glared murderously at Aqua.
"Killing Demon Lord Army mbers ans paying with your life—that's the rule here!"

Darkness and gumin gasped simultaneously.
The glory of defeating a Demon Lord Army officer had gone to their heads, making them forget the taboo of this miniature Demon King's Castle!
Under no circumstances were you allowed to kill the Demon King's soldiers here!
Hadn't there been reckless adventurers who, in the heat of battle, killed a few soldiers and were never seen again?

An overwhelming pressure filled the great hall, shattering windows as all four paled.

Footsteps rang out abruptly.
Under their terrified gazes, an imposing figure erged from the depths of the hall.
Clad in silver-white full armor with a sleek black mask—the unmistakable visage of the Demon King!
"I have shown great respect for humanity by establishing these rules. Yet so arrogant fools fail to recognize the situation, squandering my rcy."
The Demon King's deep voice carried restrained fury as it reached their ears.
"Kazuma! Aqua! gumin! Go on ahead—I'll hold him off!"
Darkness's face turned pale, but she imdiately stepped forward, blocking the path of the Demon King.
"Then I'll leave it to you, Darkness!"
"This is no ti to argue! Fine, leave this to ... Wait, what?! Kazuma, you're really inhuman!"
"You said you'd cover our retreat—how could I steal your chance to shine?"
Kazuma grabbed gumin and instantly activated Stealth.
"Wait! Mr. Kazuma?!"
Aqua panicked. "Let use Stealth too! And why did you let go of to grab gumin instead? That's blatant favoritism!"
"Darkness, you have to hold on! Don't fall before I escape!"
Aqua shouted at Darkness while mustering all her strength to sprint toward the hall's exit.
"Y-you guys! How can you all be so shaless?!"
Darkness was utterly furious.
I only said I'd cover the retreat as a formality! We're a team—of course I wanted to fight together!
But what happened? Everyone ran away so fast! Am I the only one getting played here?!
"Boom!"
A sudden gust of wind howled!
Before Darkness could react, a sword slash sharp enough to sever tal whisked past her ear.
With a deafening crash, the hall's main doors were sliced apart, scattering debris everywhere.
"Eeek!"
Aqua shrieked, falling onto her backside before turning her terrified gaze behind her.
"Female knight, you may leave now."
The Demon King gripped a silver longsword, his icy tone sending chills down the spine.
"My target is only that high priest over there."
"...A knight must never abandon her comrades!"
Darkness glanced at the shattered doorway, gulped, and wiped the sweat from her brow.
But she gritted her teeth, her expression quickly hardening as she raised her sword with a battle cry.
Self-proclaid knights are such a pain.
Eiji grumbled internally. He'd already let Kazuma and gumin escape—if Darkness would just leave too, he could do whatever he wanted to Aqua.
"A-and besides! Facing the Demon King head-on like this is the perfect chance to fulfill my ideals!"
Darkness's eyes darted around, her cheeks flushing as her expression grew increasingly unhinged.
"Co at , Demon King! Don't hold back! Treat like the knights in those lewd stories—trample all you want! But no matter how much you defile , my heart will never yield!"

Eiji had no intention of dealing with her right now.
A figure shrouded in a mage's robe promptly appeared and carried Darkness away—though not before shooting him a disdainful look.
"Now it's your turn."
The hall finally fell silent.
Eiji turned his nacing gaze toward the sole remaining target—Aqua.
