Chapter 745: War

(Leo’s POV)

As the DarkSky guild mbers who had advanced beyond the walls to challenge the Uprising began their retreat back to Bernabeu City, the next phase of the war officially comnced.

“Steady now, Dumpy. There’s no need to chase them into the city. Let them retreat for now,” Leo instructed, raising a hand to halt his companion’s instinct to pursue, as he chose to wait and observe for now.

“As you command, Lord Father,” Dumpy croaked obediently. His massive 15-foot fra shrinking as he compressed down into a tiny 5-inch form to conserve stamina for now.

“Charge after them, WhiteSabers! Don’t let them run”

A commanding voice said from behind them, as when Leo turned, he saw the WhiteSaber guild master leading his n into war, as he rushed past Leo and Dumpy, passing them with a courteous nod.

“All the best–” Leo said, nodding back, as he paused and observed the WhiteSaber guilds attempt to enter Bernabeu.

For now, it seed like the phalanx that had ford at the broken walls of Bernabeu had parted slightly to allow the retreating troops to re-enter, however, the man guarding the entrance seed on-edge as they seed eager to close that opening at the very first sign of danger.

There were around 6,000 DarkSky troops still alive outside the walls and the entrance was simply not big enough for all of them to slip-in before the WhiteSaber army caught up, which caused a bloodbath to erupt, right near the edge of the Bernabeu wall.

The jagged edges of the opening, still faintly glowing with residual energy from his [Rainbow Shot], frad the chaotic retreat of the DarkSky forces like the maw of a colossal beast swallowing its prey.

Dust and debris hung heavy in the air, mixing with the anguished cries of the wounded and the sharp commands of retreating officers.

The DarkSky guild mbers scrambled over rubble and through smoke, their formation completely shattered. Swords scraped against stone as exhausted soldiers stumbled over fallen comrades, so dragging bleeding allies while others cast desperate glances over their shoulders.

The once-disciplined ranks were reduced to fragnted groups, each fighting to reach the safety of the inner city.

But safety was a fleeting dream.

The WhiteSaber guild was relentless in their pursuit, and ruthless in their killing.

Their WhiteSaber knights, that began the war in gleaming white armor, now road around in red, their armours stained with gri and streaks of red, as they defeated the trapped DarkSky enemies ruthlessly.

Their battle cries pierced through the chaos, a stark contrast to the panicked shouts of DarkSky’s retreating forces, who feared that the phalanx would eventually close before they had a chance to get-in or they would die before they reached it.

“Press them harder!” bellowed a WhiteSaber captain, his silver sword reflecting the blood red of his surroundings.

“Don’t let them regroup inside the walls!” He said, as at his command, a group of WhiteSaber spearn advanced in perfect synchronization, their shields interlocked as they drove deeper into the opening.

Behind them, battle mages unleashed torrents of fire and arcs of lightning, forcing DarkSky’s rear guard to scatter.

Leo remained still, his sharp eyes tracking the flow of battle. From his position near the breach, he could see the ebb and flow of the war-tide shifting.

He could clearly see the DarkSky’s attempt to mount a defensive line inside the breach was collapsing under the WhiteSabers’ thodical assault, and how by retreating, Cervantez had chosen to sacrifice 3,000 of the 6,000 remaining n, without mounting any real fight.

“They’re closing the opening” Leo muttered under his breath, his sharp eyes narrowing, as he saw the DarkSky phalanx closing the entry into the city, dooming thousands of their own soldiers outside, forcing them to fight and die without support.

“HEY WHAT ARE YOU DOING, OPEN THE WALL, I’LL LOSE SO MANY LEVELS IF I DIE”

“I’M RIGHT HERE. LET IN. I AM FROM YOUR OWN GUILD”

“Where’s the captain? Has he retreated already? What a joke… we are left here to die alone”

“Sorry guys, it’s too risky to keep the gap open, we have to close it now, or the WhiteSabers will flood the city with ease, sorry, we cannot take that risk—”

Leo watched patiently as the DarkSky guild turned on its own mbers, causing friction at the border, as within minutes the poor guys who were not allowed to enter died a horrific death.

So cursed and swore their guild for this betrayal before they died, while so understood the guild’s reason behind doing what they did and went more gracefully.

Wars were not won without sacrifice, and most soldiers understood this very well.

But understanding this grim fate did not make the reality any easier to bear, as the faces of those left outside the walls reflected a mixture of anger, betrayal, and resignation.

So still fought, lashing out in futile defiance against the encroaching WhiteSaber forces, while others simply dropped their weapons and accepted their fate with resignation.

A lone DarkSky knight, his armor dented and sared with blood, raised his sword in one final act of defiance. “Co then, cowards! Face !” he roared, his voice breaking under the weight of exhaustion and despair.

However, the only response he received was a swift hail of arrows piercing his chest and throat, cutting his rebellion short as he crumpled to the blood-soaked earth.

Behind him, the WhiteSaber army continued its relentless advance, shields locked, spears thrusting forward in perfect unison.

Every step they took pushed the remaining DarkSky forces further back into chaos, further away from the safety of the sealed city gates, and soon, no DarkSky guild mber remained outside the city walls.

The entire army was annihilated, leaving the WhiteSaber forces, face to face with the DarkSky Phalanx, who was now defending the opening in the wall bravely.

“WhiteSabers! Try and enter if you can—” shouted the DarkSky Commander Jess, as the first wave of WhiteSaber troops pushed their shoulders against the Phalanx, trying to push their opponents back.
