Chapter 5: Chapter 5: A Mother’s Worries for Her Faraway Child

After coaxing his sister Candy to sleep, Mo Jingchun experienced the joy of unboxing for the first ti.

The laptop felt a bit heavy in his hands, but he still liked it a lot, especially since it had a black shell.

After taking out all the items from the box to have a look, Mo Jingchun couldn’t wait to plug in the power and press the power button on the laptop.

The screen lit up, displaying the manufacturer’s big logo. After about two seconds, it changed to the language options.

[Simplified Chinese]

Following the prompts on the screen step by step, Mo Jingchun finally saw so very familiar poems and classical Chinese.

"eting you for the first ti, as if an old friend returns"

"Isn’t it a joy to have friends co from afar"

"Indigo, extracted from blue, but bluer than blue"

"The Sword Gate towers majestically, one man guards, ten thousand cannot open"

"Doors and windows aglow with sunlight, new peachwood charms replace the old"

"Don’t long for old friends or old nation, try new tea with new fire"

After waiting for a few minutes, Mo Jingchun heard the familiar sound of the computer startup chi.

The empty desktop had only one recycle bin on it.

After tinkering for a long ti and checking information online, a few more icons appeared on the new laptop’s desktop.

Computer, Network, Control Panel, and so commonly used software.

Mo Jingchun even installed the often criticized 360 Security Guard.

Mo Jingchun knew that 360 Security Guard took up computer resources, but he still downloaded it for no other reason than convenience.

Actually, for a slightly better computer, installing 360 Security Guard really didn’t matter for system resource usage.

Unknowingly, Mo Jingchun had been tinkering with the laptop for over two hours. Hearing his stomach growling, he realized it was already past noon.

Luckily, his sister Candy was still asleep.

In the afternoon, it took Mo Jingchun a lot of effort, but Candy just wouldn’t sleep, clinging to him with her little hands tightly gripping his collar.

Helplessly, Mo Jingchun had to hold the little one in his left hand and use his right hand to search on the computer for C

software developnt tool recomndations.

After comparing the pros and cons of various C

developnt tools online, Mo Jingchun ultimately chose Visual Studio.

Finding a tutorial for downloading and installing Visual Studio, Mo Jingchun followed the instructions to complete the installation and reconfigured the developnt environnt.

The day passed in the blink of an eye, and apart from working on the laptop all day, nothing else was done.

The little one must have been tired from playing all day. As the sun set outside and the sky darkened, Candy quickly fell asleep after getting her fill of food and drink.

Only then did Mo Jingchun have his hands free to start a new project in the Visual Studio editor and type the first line of code.

It wasn’t any line of code related to the AI intelligent butler from his mind, but rather...

#include "ostream"

......

...

Seeing the compilation and execution results display "hello world," Mo Jingchun felt sincere joy.

The sense of accomplishnt~ that’s what it was.

That damn feeling of fulfillnt.

Feeling self-satisfied for a while, Mo Jingchun finally started writing his first custom library from his mind.

In the room, under a desk lamp, with a laptop, Mo Jingchun was furiously typing on the keyboard in front of the computer, while Candy slept soundly on the bed, creating a scene like a painting.

Stretching leisurely, taking a deep breath, and exhaling slowly, Mo Jingchun felt wholly relaxed.

Unknowingly, he had already written over two thousand lines of code, no wonder his eyes felt a bit sore and tired.

However, Mo Jingchun also realized that his speed at writing code was far below his anticipated target. If he continued at this pace, who knows when the AI intelligent butler would ever be born.

"It’s tricky."

Shaking his head, Mo Jingchun closed the laptop directly.

After taking a shower, he climbed into bed, already past eleven o’clock.

Lying in bed, Mo Jingchun reflected a bit. Although he had ready-made AI intelligent butler code in his mind, he also discovered his own shortcomings.

The code in his mind, perhaps due to system reasons, was easy to understand. Mo Jingchun could precisely locate which specific part of code implented each function, but he was clueless about the fundantal knowledge.

Just like in the day when he got a new laptop, faced with a blank desktop, Mo Jingchun could only resort to Baidu.

Mo Jingchun’s knowledge of computers was limited to microcomputer classes in school.

The composition principles of operating systems... CPU instruction sets...

For these, Mo Jingchun was entirely ignorant.

Now it seems, to realize the AI intelligent butler, there is indeed a long and far path ahead.

............

Today, Mo Jingchun uncharacteristically did not write any code. Early in the morning, he locked the door, held his sister Candy, and carried a red convenience bag up the back mountain.

New soil, a new grave, with only the wreaths on both sides having a mix of new and old.

Even with one more person, the grave mound didn’t seem bigger, still the sa as before.

"Bang~"

The sound of fireworks startled the little one in Mo Jingchun’s arms, so he patted Candy’s back.

"Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, brother is here."

Whether Mo Jingchun’s comfort worked or not, the little one stopped being scared and instead craned her neck wanting to find the source of the sound.

Mo Jingchun knelt on the ground, placing incense and paper together to light them, and began muttering to himself.

"Dad, Mom."

"I’m leaving for school tomorrow."

"Don’t worry, soone is taking

tomorrow. Fourth Uncle is driving

to the city train station."

"Granduncle even told , tomorrow the neighbors will see

off too."

Mo Jingchun smiled and said: "You guys often envied cousin and cousin sister for getting into university, such a grand affair. Now it’s finally your son’s turn, aren’t you happy?"

"You must be very happy, right? Your son got into Jing University, much better than them."

"You don’t have to worry about Little Candy either, I’ll take my sister to school with . Haha, I might be the first to take a sister to college."

.........

......

"Candy, say goodbye to Mom and Dad~"

"Hmm hmm~"

"Dad, Mom."

"In a few months, it’ll be New Year’s... I’ll co back to see you both."

Only after confirming multiple tis that there was no fire source, did Mo Jingchun leave the tomb mound, which had no tombstone, with his sister.

In the room, Mo Jingchun scratched his head in frustration. Such a big suitcase, yet it was filled with just a few items.

More than half of the suitcase was filled with Candy’s things, leaving less than a third of the space for his own.

Turning around, Candy on the bed was still lying there, smiling at him.

"Looks like I’ll have to wait until winter to buy a down jacket."

After packing, Mo Jingchun carried Candy downstairs, checking each window to ensure they were closed and locked.

In the evening, Mo Jingchun and his sister went to Granduncle’s ho.

"Granduncle, here’s the spare house key. While I’m not at ho, I’ll have to trouble you."

ps: Granduncle, your... recomndation vote~~~
