But Blaine wasn't a Gym Leader for years without facing his share of ups and downs.
Rapidash's defeat only stunned him for a mont.
Quickly, he regained his composure and recalled Rapidash, his expression calm as he stroked his beard, smiling with renewed energy.
"For a rookie Trainer, you're really impressive."
"However... if you think you can beat with just Aerodactyl, you're mistaken."
"Go, Arcanine!"
With a powerful bark, an Arcanine even larger and more imposing than Gary's bounded onto the battlefield, its muscular form radiating strength as it fixed its gaze on Aerodactyl above.
It had seen the previous fight from inside its Poké Ball.
Now, Arcanine was ready to avenge its teammate.
Arcanine growled deeply, its eyes locking onto Aerodactyl in an intense stare, challenging it with a fierce aura that was completely different from Aerodactyl's wild, primal energy.
"Intimidate ability, huh?"
Sensing the subtle wave of power radiating from Arcanine, Luo Yuan imdiately recognized its Intimidate ability.
"Co back, Aerodactyl!"
Blaine raised an eyebrow in surprise as Luo Yuan recalled Aerodactyl.
Bringing Aerodactyl out had mainly been for it to practice and get so training in after its recent capture; it needed ti to adjust and gradually regain its full strength.
The experience from this battle, however... could be left to another Pokémon.
With this thought in mind, Luo Yuan threw out his second Poké Ball.
Boom!
In a flash of light, a Charleon appeared on the battlefield, its eyes blazing with determination.
Roar!
Charleon breathed a stream of fire into the air, energized by the heat from the surrounding environnt.
Blaine shifted his focus to Charleon, montarily setting aside the Aerodactyl question.
"A Charleon... a starter Pokémon, huh?"
Watching the intensity of the flas on Charleon's tail, Blaine thought that even as a starter, Luo Yuan's Charleon was far from ordinary.
"Arcanine, test it out with Flathrower!"
Arf!
Arcanine launched a stream of flas toward Charleon.
"Dodge it, then use Fire Spin!"
Thanks to the rocks left scattered by Aerodactyl's Rock Slide, Charleon quickly ducked behind cover, avoiding the flas.
Hiding behind the rock, Charleon took a deep breath, its belly swelling as the fire on its tail flared up.
Whoosh!
A line of fire erupted from Charleon's mouth, spiraling around Arcanine in an attempt to trap it in a vortex of flas.
But Arcanine, a Pokémon known for its high awareness as the preferred police dog of the Officer Jennys, was ready.
Sensing the flas closing in, Arcanine let out a mighty howl and activated Extre Speed.
With a combination of Howl—a move that boosts its attack by intimidating its opponents—and Extre Speed, a high-speed technique, Arcanine shot forward like an orange blur toward Charleon, smashing through smaller rocks in its path.
But Charleon, after countless training sessions with Luo Yuan, was no pushover.
Seeing Arcanine racing toward it, Charleon instinctively knew it couldn't withstand a direct hit.
"Dodge and use Protect!"
Luo Yuan's command reached Charleon at the perfect mont.
Charleon leapt and cast a blue shield around itself.
Thud!
Arcanine's Extre Speed glanced off Charleon's protective barrier, shattering it but only grazing Charleon's side.
Charleon flipped in midair, landing squarely on a nearby boulder.
Skid!
Arcanine skidded to a halt at the edge of the battlefield, turned quickly, and charged at Charleon again.
"Fire Wheel!"
At Blaine's command, Arcanine didn't let up, igniting its body in flas and launching a third, blazing attack toward Charleon.
"Speed is certainly troubleso..."
Luo Yuan knew all too well the power of speed in Pokémon battles, especially from his experiences with Deoxys, who could outmaneuver even the combined efforts of Lorelei and Lance.
Arcanine's speed posed a real threat to Charleon.
He needed to slow it down.
"Use Dragon Breath!"
With a blast of purple flas from its mouth, Charleon unleashed Dragon Breath, a move that had a chance to paralyze its target and restrict its movents.
Just as Arcanine's Fire Wheel shattered the boulder Charleon had perched on, Charleon leapt into the air.
Following Luo Yuan's command without hesitation, Charleon let loose the purple flas.
Arcanine barely had ti to react before it was enveloped by the paralyzing breath.
Grrr...
The paralysis surged through Arcanine's body, slowing it down drastically.
With its speed neutralized, Arcanine was now on an even playing field.
Charleon grinned, a fierce determination in its eyes.
When it ca to a showdown of Fire-type moves, it had never backed down from a challenge.
"Arcanine, hang in there! Don't let the paralysis stop you—use Fire Fang!"
Despite the paralysis, Arcanine summoned its strength, baring its fangs as flas coated its teeth, lunging at Charleon with a blazing bite.
But Charleon wasn't about to engage in close combat.
It exhaled a Smokescreen to obscure Arcanine's vision, then quickly put distance between them.
Following Luo Yuan's next command...
"Fire Blast!"
With a fiery determination, Charleon unleashed a massive Fire Blast, even more intense than the one Rapidash had fired at Aerodactyl earlier.
Boom!
Arcanine was thrown back by the force of the explosion.
