Chapter 6: I saw her on TV

And yet here I was, fallen to this point, entrapped in the hands of that damn Captain Lu.
Fuck, just nothing at all!
Wen Xian was pissed off for quite a while, her temples throbbing, until she rummaged through the bedside drawer and found a cheap cigarette and a gear lighter, which finally cald her down a bit.
Now her wounds started to throb with pain, her head buzzing, but she didn’t care.
She flicked the lighter’s wheel a couple of tis, sparks flew, the dim light of the fla sprang to life, and she then bent down and lit the cigarette clenched in her mouth.

Vast golden mountain peaks, endless prairies with gazelles, antelopes, and protected species of cranes.
The unending roads, and the lakes varied in color, deep and mysterious salt lakes.
This season the wind was a bit strong, causing so windows to let in drafts, but they had all been sealed with plastic sheets, bulging slightly.
It was almost ti for dinner, and the aroma of food wafted from the canteen.
Sang Nian and the Tibetan lad Zha Xi managed to charm a large at bun from the canteen ‘mama’ by acting cute.
Nibbling on it, they headed towards uncle Li in the mailroom.
Mailroom uncle Li was there cracking sunflower seeds, glued to the television drama.
“Anian, I heard you and the boss brought back a woman in distress this morning?” Zha Xi asked in his awkward Mandarin.
Still with a mouthful of the hot at bun, Sang Nian waved a hand and mumbled:
“Don’t even ntion it, that woman was fierce, ran like a wild yak, speeding like that it’s easy to get into an accident.”
Despite stating the facts, he deliberately left out that the fearso and arrogant beautiful woman had fallen into a ditch because of them.
The two joined uncle Li to watch the small television, which was broadcasting a palace drama.

Sang Nian’s eye twitched slightly as he glanced at the television screen and continued to munch his bun:
