Xavier POV
I watched as all the Alphas sauntered into the regional council hall. It was how they were making zero effort to act guilty and that ached the most. They were strolling in as if they had been invited to a party.
Still, I didn’t say anything. I had purposely brought out enough ti today in preparation for the eting, it was as if I guessed they were all going to co late, so I cancelled every prior engagent I had for later on.
Behind , sat Alpha Kurtis; since I joined hands with him, the pack had seen prosperity, as promised he had recruited a few of my soldiers and we were sending them in batches to him. When one set leaves, another set from his pack would replace them to maintain a balance.
It’s been two months since Selene left and since I joined hands with Kurtis.
Alpha Jason was the first person to approach , he reluctantly bowed his head and murmured what looked like a greeting. Followed by Alpha Kyle and then Alpha Mason, Alpha Zed, Alpha Jared, and Alpha Kingston. After they each murmured a greeting to , they took their seats.
"Is there any reason you all ca late and simultaneously?" I asked coldly, without bothering with the formalities of opening the eting.
The room remained silent, as each of the Alphas busied themselves doing nothing. No one was looking in my direction. A small smile settled on my lips; they were making this very easy for . Everything that Kurtis had predicted was happening right before .
"Let’s move on to other matters then," I said "Before we proceed with other business of our eting, I’d like to make an announcent and an addition," I saw them turn curious eyes to .
"Alpha Kurtis, can you co out for a second?" I asked.
Imdiately, Alpha Kurtis ca out from behind taking his position by my side. All the Alphas turned white with fear imdiately except Jared who was careful enough to mask his expressions. He stared at Kurtis blankly and then at , arching his brow in explanation. I had to give him his flowers though, his performance was stellar.
"Do you all know the man standing beside ?" I asked rising to my feet.
The Alphas imdiately averted their gaze; it was as if the ground should open and swallow them. A few days ago, Kurtis furnished with details combined with evidence of each of the things he had done for any Alpha in the room. He was wise enough to know that a situation would warrant him to clear his na.
But I didn’t want to use that, at least not yet. There were so many instances and evidence that each of the Alphas seated in the room had tried to kill but I decided I was going to thread carefully with these n.
Since no one was saying anything, I continued.
"This is Alpha Kurtis; he was a popular rogue Alpha and for years, he has single-handedly taken care of our borders ensuring that there’s peace and has prevented a lot of attacks from other rogue packs and it would be unjust for all of his good deeds to go without an atom of reward or recognition in the least,".
"Reward? Recognition?" Alpha Jared rose to his feet "The very thought of him coming to stand in front of us irks . How can you admit a known rogue lord to stand before us and if I may, Alpha... Rogues are not rewarded or recognized, so it’s vain for you to think so of him,".
The rest of the Alphas all nodded in agreent.
"Tell , Alpha Jared... what notable contributions have you given to the Eastern Region? Have you helped threaten our borders? Have you tried to report attacks or spies being sent to spy our way? Of course not!" I scoffed "I am aware that each of you has been amassing armies, trying to train them in secret of course and it’s shocking to because why?
I crossed the room to where Jared still stood on his feet "What is the occasion? Why are you all building tall fortresses and buying soldiers from the West? As for you, Jared, putting up a façade to trick everyone that you’re broke and in need of help so you can escape paying taxes and making contributions only to invest that money in weapons and soldiers is very bizarre and annoying, to say the least,".
The room had fallen silent and most of the Alphas had their heads bowed in sha.
"I am still waiting for an answer," I asked scanning their faces. I know we’ve been at peace for almost three years now, but why the fuck are you all preparing for war? Alpha Zed what is this I hear about passing your soldiers through the rigorous exercise of keeping them out in the cold for 100 days? Why? What is the occasion?"
Zed shifted uncomfortably in his seat, his gaze still downwards. "Don’t worry," I said with a smile "I’ll tell you all what it ans," I said and walked back to my seat.
"You’re trying to usurp and snatch power away from . So of you here have certain connections that need to be checked right under my nose. You have your spies, walking around boldly in my pack," I shook my head with a smile on my face and then shouted towards the door
"Bring them in," I commanded and imdiately, the doors opened and n and won all spies of the Alphas were brought in.
Their countenance changed and I could feel the fear emanating from them. Even Jared who wanted to act cold was shaking with fear. At this point, if I get Kurtis to testify against them, they were done for.
Alpha Kyle was the first person to succumb to the pressure. He ca closer to , eyes pleading.
"I apologize, Alpha, the spy I sent from my pack was to give a report of the things happening in your pack, especially with you. I didn’t do it out of malic, Alpha. I would never even think of that,".
One by one, they all trickled out of their seat, chorusing similar answers and begging for my rcy. I wanted to laugh out loud because I knew this was all a ruse. They weren’t apologetic about anything. They were after saving their lives and after they did, they would turn against .
Jared stood where he was, refusing to join the other Alphas. I ignored him. If I was going to deal with the Alphas, I had first to take their powers away from them and make them useless.
"Anyways," I said with a small smile "I had wanted to investigate the matter deeper but my new assistant told we had other pressing needs than witch hunting and I truly hope that it’ll be worth it in the end,".
"A-Assistant?" Kyle stuttered "What are you talking about Alpha? Ever since you removed Alpha Mason as your assistant, there’s been no appointnt or elections for one? Or did it slip your mind?" he said the last bit kindly.
"Don’t worry, Kyle, I am not running mad. I know what I said," turning to Kurtis, I reached for his hand and pulled him to join where I stood.
"This is one of the reasons I had called for this eting. On behalf of the Alpha Coalition Easter Region, we officially recognize Rogue lord Kurtis as Alpha Kurtis. Moving forward, he would be a mber of this prestigious Alpha Coalition. Also, I have appointed him to be my new assistant,".
The words were barely out of my mouth when Mason sprang to his feet, his face red with annoyance "That cannot be, Alpha," he spewed "He’s a re nobody but a bastard. Alphas that are asked to join the Coalition are actual Alphas. Allowing soone like him to join us would bring sha to our coalition and sever century-old laws,".
"I can’t believe you know a law exists," I chuckled at Mason "My mind is made up and there’s nothing anyone of you can do. Do you hear ?"
"We do not accept this appointnt. How can you make Kurtis beco an Alpha? Especially with his history of causing more harm than good," Alpha Kingston said quietly.
"I won’t apologize for making a decision like that, Alphas, if anything I’m glad I finally followed my heart. If you have a problem with the decision, you can contest it at the highest authority which is the court of the Lycan King. By the way, our quarterly ant is tomorrow, I hope all of you are ready to go?"
They nodded without saying a word.
"In the anti, I have deployed a one-third of my soldiers to your pack for thorough searching. So, you cannot return to your packs for ti being,".
"Are you taking us hostages, Alpha," Jared asked
