Selene POV
The ride back ho was relatively quiet.
Not only was I amazed by Xavier’s charisma and how he had handled Kurtis I didn’t know they go way back. Even until now, it amazed that he knew so much about Kurtis... even the bad points and yet kept it to himself.
I’ve never seen this side of him.
When we were a couple, I didn’t get to spend so much ti with him because half the ti, he was always so busy and when he wasn’t busy, he was always with Belinda while I was the pitiful wife that he only ca to every full moon. I didn’t know he had such personality.
"Your wolf," he said suddenly breaking the silence as he gave a quick glance "It seems different now, I didn’t think I could mind link you,".
"Yeah," I said listlessly closing my eyes as I leaned against the headrest of the car "Since I lost that weakness I always felt, my wolf has been doing so well," I said.
"I can tell," he nodded and we drifted into silence again.
Soon, we arrived at the Pack. As he stopped the car at the entrance of the packhouse, I could see Vina, Maeve and Noah at the front porch, they were all looking in our direction. As I reached to unbuckle my seat belt, Xavier’s hand suddenly covered mine.
"What are you doing tonight?" he asked.
The question threw off-balance and the closeness. His hand on mine sent a delicious warm sensation to that spread all over my body. I swallowed hard as I stared at his lips, If I stretch my head towards him for a bit, our lips would et.
I shook my straying thoughts as my eyes t his "Nothing," I said.
"Good," he flashed a smile "How about we go out for dinner... just the two of us or if you like we can take the girls with us,"
"No," I shook my head "We can’t Xavier. Noah would be...".
"You’re supposed to be my wife for three days, Selene... that was the deal. Why are you so concerned about him?"
"Because he’s my fiancée," I retorted "We’ve been over this before, Xavier. I am engaged to Noah and I’m going to marry him and you’ll reject ,".
"You’ve also said that nurous tis that I’ve lost count. We both know that you still have the hots for and I’m not going to fight you. Just be my wife for these three days, that’s all I’m asking for. Do you want to deny that?" he sighed.
"Fine," I exhaled "But we’ll go out with the girls and just so you know, I have the hots for Noah and not you,".
I didn’t wait for him to answer, I opened the door of the car and left. As I go towards the pack house, Vina imdiately ran out to greet . Maeve hung back peering behind . imdiately she saw Xavier, she ran past into her father’s waiting hand.
She was still not talking to and I didn’t care... When we leave Greyhound, she would have no choice but to communicate.
"How did the eting go?" Vina asked tugging at my leg of my trouser to gain my attention.
I had looked up to where Noah was, trying to give him a placating smile but he just sat there and was staring steadily at . It didn’t help that his expression was deadpan. There was no way I could tell what was going on in his mind.
"It was fine dear," I turn my attention back to Vina, kneeling in front of her "Alpha Xavier made a good bargain with him. Everything will be fine,".
"I know," Vina nodded "And I’m glad. Can I go to dad now?" Her eyes darted between and Xavier who was currently tickling Maeve who was laughing with such reckless abandon.
"Sure thing, sweetie," I nodded and watched her scramble to where they were.
Rising to my feet, I go towards Noah. "Hi," I greeted warmly "How are you?"
"I’m fine," he nodded "How was the trip?"
"It was fruitful and good will co out of it,".
"Okay," he nodded.
An awkward silence hung between us. I wanted to reassure him that nothing happened between and Xavier but I found myself holding back. I was eager to ask him a lot of questions too but I couldn’t bring myself to do it.
"Mummy," Vina ran to breaking my thoughts "Daddy said we’re going for dinner later tonight. Is it true?"
I saw Noah arch his brow as he gave a glance... I flashed an apologetic smile at him and turned to her.
"Yes dear. Are you excited?"
"Of course, mummy," Vina looked at with incredulity "At least, I’ll have a lot of stories to share with my friends back at Moon Whisper. You know this is going to be our first dinner as family,".
"But we always eat dinner together with Alpha Noah, we go on dates too,".
"He’s not our real dad," Maeve chirped in "This is the first dinner we’ll be having together as a real family,".
I sneaked a look at Noah and saw pain flash in his eyes. And then he rose from his seat. "I need to reply a few texts and take so calls, excuse ,".
When he left, I turned to Maeve, angry at her insinuation. "Maeve, I’ve had it up to my neck with this insolence of yous. Don’t you know that you’re not supposed to talk to him like that? Why do you keep emphasizing that he’s not your dad? Did he try to make himself one?"
"In case he has forgotten," she said calmly "He’s supposed to be our uncle not our father. And no matter what you tell , I’ll never accept him as my dad,".
"Again, Maeve," I greeted my teeth in frustration "Noah is not trying to beco your daddy. You know that, right? Can you just be polite and let him be? Please... stop making subtle hints, it’s so hurtful,".
"You should listen to your mom, Maeve," Xavier suddenly said "And you should totally not involve yourself in adult matters,".
"But dad..." Maeve protested surprised that he was taking her side.
"You’ll apologize to Alpha Noah. You were rude a while ago," Xavier continued without giving her a chance to speak.
"I was just saying the truth but I’ll say sorry later," she pouted and rested her head on his shoulders.
"Don’t you have work, co girls... your daddy has a lot of things to do especially today,".
Xavier nodded and set Maeve on the floor "I need to go have a eting with Lucius but I’ll be back soon, okay?"
"How long will you be gone for? Can I co?" Maeve asked.
"An hour or maybe two and sorry darling, you cannot co but I promise, I’ll be back soon. Okay?"
After an episode of kisses and hugs, Xavier finally left and I entered into the pack house with the girls. Maeve had slipped back to her ’no talk mode’ and it was just and Vina chattering.
I asked the girls to look for sothing they’d like to wear to the dinner date and laid down on the bed watching them quietly. After rummaging through her wardrobe, Vina cos up to and tells she didn’t like all the dresses she had.
"How about that pick one with the blue bow? It’ll look so nice on you?" I suggested.
"No mom," she shook her head "I hate that dress, I’ve always hated it. I don’t know why we brought it here with us. Let’s go and buy new ones, mummy... please,".
"Vina, I’m so tired," I sighed "I’ve been up on my feet all day and I really want to rest,".
"I promise we won’t spend a lot of ti; I’ll quickly make a selection and we’ll be back ho. Besides, you don’t have anything to wear too,".
"I do,".
"Are you planning to wear any of those your hideous styles? C’mon, mummy...".
In the end, I gave in to their pushing. We arrived at the mall and contrary to the promise Vina made , it was difficult for them to make a choice. They kept going through clothes, insisting that they wanted to find a perfect one.
Maeve wanted them to go in matching outfits but Vina didn’t want that. She wanted them to go with their unique styles stating that they were too old to be twinning. Tired and hungry from listening to their back-and-forth conversation, I excused myself in search of food.
I went to a restaurant at the other side of the mall to get food and also a cup of coffee to keep energized. As I paid and was about to leave, my eyes caught Lucius at the opposite side of the mall. He was coming out of a VIP bar.
As I wondered what he was doing there... my eyes suddenly fell on a couple sitting
By the window side, looking at each other. Since the bar was made with glass, you could see everything going inside. The man must have said sothing because in the next instance, the woman half-rose and leaned in the direction of the man as she captured his lips in a kiss.
The man was Xavier and the woman who had kissed him was Belinda.
