Xavier POV

The hum of the generator sputtered, coughed, and then went silent—again. I slamd my fist on the nearest console, cursing under my breath. Sweat dripped down my temple as I glanced at Kurtis, who was fiddling with yet another set of cables. His face was grim, his movents careful but laced with frustration.

"This is the third ti we’ve rewired this damn thing," I muttered. "What’s the point of having advanced systems if they can’t even handle a power surge?"

Kurtis didn’t look up from his work. "You’re asking the wrong person, Alpha. I’m just here for moral support and manual labour."

I snorted, running a hand through my hair. The power issue had started of nowhere two days ago, and no matter what we tried, the supply kept failing intermittently. It was affecting everything—security, communications, and, most frustratingly, my temper.

"Let guess," I said, folding my arms and leaning against the wall. "You were a wiring expert in a past life?"

Kurtis chuckled dryly. "Hardly. But desperate tis, right?"

He crouched lower, reaching for another cluster of tangled wires. The dim ergency lights flickered overhead, casting jagged shadows across the room.

"Try it now," he said, nodding toward the main switchboard.

I hesitated. "You sure? Because the last ti, we almost fried half the grid."

Kurtis raised an eyebrow. "What’s the worst that could happen? Do we lose power again? I’d say we’re already there."

I grunted in agreent and walked over to the control panel. With a deep breath, I flipped the main breaker. For a second, nothing happened. Then, a low hum filled the room, the generator roaring back to life. The overhead lights flickered, steadying until the room was fully illuminated.

Kurtis stood, brushing dust off his hands. "That should hold for now."

"For now," I echoed. "Until sothing else decides to fall apart."

"You’re welco," he quipped, flashing a grin. But it faded quickly, his expression turning more serious. "Xavier... there’s sothing I need to talk to you about."

I froze, his tone imdiately setting on edge. "What is it?"

Kurtis hesitated, his jaw tightening as if he were weighing his words carefully. He walked over to a chair and sat down heavily, motioning for to do the sa. This wasn’t like him; Kurtis wasn’t the type to dance around an issue.

"Out with it," I said, sitting across from him. "What’s going on?"

He rubbed his hands together, staring down at them for a mont before eting my gaze. "It’s about Selene."

The ntion of her na was like a slap to the face. My chest tightened mories of her flooding my mind. I leaned back in my chair, forcing my expression to remain neutral.

"What about her?"

Kurtis let out a slow breath. "A lot’s been happening... things I didn’t think were worth ntioning until now. But after everything that’s co to light, I can’t stay quiet anymore."

I narrowed my eyes. "What things?"

He looked away as if the weight of his thoughts was too heavy to carry. "There’s a prophecy, Xavier. One tied to Selene."

I stiffened. "A prophecy? What kind of prophecy?"

"The kind that speaks of destruction and darkness," he said grimly. "Of a Luna who will either save the world or bring it to ruin."

I stared at him, the words sinking in like lead. "And you think Selene is this Luna?"

Kurtis nodded. "I know she is. There’s no doubt in my mind. The signs are all there—her power, the way things are converging around her, the people showing up asking questions... It all points to her."

A cold knot ford in my stomach. "What people?"

"Four n," Kurtis said, his expression darkening. "They ca to my pack, asking about her. They called themselves ’The Fates.’ They didn’t give much away, but their interest in her was clear. They believe she’s at the centre of this prophecy."

I leaned forward, gripping the armrests of my chair. "Why didn’t you tell this sooner?"

"Because I wasn’t sure what to make of it," he admitted. "And because I didn’t know how much you’d care, given... well, everything."

I scowled, his words hitting a nerve. "Don’t assu you know how I feel about Selene."

"Fair enough," he said, holding up a hand. "But there’s more. The power you’ve been losing here? It might not be a coincidence. Things are shifting, Xavier, and not just in your pack. It’s everywhere."

I frowned, the pieces slowly falling into place. "You think it’s connected to her? To this prophecy?"

"I think it’s possible," Kurtis said. "Selene’s power is growing, and it’s affecting everything around her. Whether she wants it to or not."

I stood abruptly, pacing the room. "And what about her? Does she know about this prophecy?"

"She’s starting to," he said. "But I don’t think she fully understands what it ans—or what she’s capable of."

I stopped, turning to face him. "What do you think it ans? What’s the endga here?"

Kurtis hesitated, his expression troubled. "I think the prophecy is a warning, but also a choice. Selene has the power to tip the scales, one way or the other. It’s up to her which path she takes."

The room fell silent, the weight of his words pressing down on . I clenched my fists, anger and frustration bubbling to the surface.

"She shouldn’t have to carry that burden," I said finally, my voice low. "It’s too much for anyone."

"I agree," Kurtis said. "But it’s not sothing we can change. All we can do is try to guide her—to make sure she chooses the right path."

I sank back into my chair, the weight of everything crashing down on . Selene, the prophecy, the power outages... it was too much to process all at once. But one thing was clear: this wasn’t just about her anymore. It was about all of us.

"We need a plan," I said, my voice firm. "If these Fates co back, or if Jared decides to get involved, we need to be ready."

Kurtis nodded. "Agreed. But there’s one more thing you should know."

I raised an eyebrow. "What now?"

He hesitated, his expression grim. "Kragen."

The na sent a chill down my spine. "What about him?"

"He’s tied to this too," Kurtis said. "In ways I don’t fully understand yet. But he’s not just Selene’s protector. He’s sothing more."

"What do you an?"

Kurtis shook his head. "I’m not sure yet. But if he’s involved, it’s only going to complicate things further."

I leaned back, running a hand through my hair. This was worse than I’d thought. Selene, the prophecy, Kragen... it was a tangled web, and we were all caught in it.

But one thing was clear: whatever was coming, we had to be ready. And Selene... she needed to understand just how much was at stake.
