Narrator POV
Kragen had barely settled in when Lilith, the moon goddess’s ssenger walked up to him. She was leaning at the corner of his abode, hands crossed across her chest, with her leg propped behind her.
"I thought you were going to remain there forever. I had a feeling that you would but Mother asked to co check on you anyways and that as soon as you’re back, I should bring you back with . So c’mon, let’s go,".
"I’ve had a very long and busy day today, please tell her I’m too tired for another of those long etings," Kragen said over his shoulders as he walked into his abode, ignoring his assistant who was standing at one side, waiting to be summoned by him.
"You don’t have a choice, Kragen, Mother didn’t ask to beg you to co with , she asked to tell you to co with imdiately. Besides, aren’t you worried that since you’re not in the holding cell already, sothing might have happened? You broke a lot of rules today, you know,".
"You’re not telling sothing I don’t already know, Lilith. Now, if you have nothing important, could you please excuse ? I need to rest," he said out loud before proceeding to his bedroom.
"Master," his assistant chased after him "There’s a lot of things for you to approve and supervise, pressing issues I dare say that we’ve been putting off. Please could you...".
"Tomorrow," Kragen murmured hiding a yawn at the back of his hands "Let the people live to die another day, okay. Tomorrow, I’ll attend to all the matters,".
With that, he plunged into his bed, closing his eyes imdiately. Lilith hovered behind him for a while, contemplating what to do next. Knowing the kind of person, Kragen was, she didn’t need to priestess to tell her that Kragen was furious. Usually, he wasn’t the kind of god to show off his anger but she could tell by his small mannerisms.
The last ti he refused to answer the call of the moon goddess, there was chaos in the Ethereal Heaven and she already knew that the moon goddess was equally pissed. If Kragen didn’t co with her right now, there would be real trouble like before. What was it about those two that always made them to be at loggerheads?
From all the gods in the ethereal heaven, the moon goddess constantly had issues with Kragen and to the best of her knowledge, she has never punished him. She would pet him constantly, threaten and let him go. She was stricter on him than most gods but she would never, take action.
"Kragen!" Lilith decides to try again "If I return without you, I’ll be punished,".
"A few days in the holding cell won’t kill you, Lilith," Kragen said gruffly "Can you leave now? I’m really tired and I want my space,".
Lilith waited for a few more minutes, and walked out of the room, resigning to her fate. As soon she left, Kragen turned to face the ceiling, his pupils burning with annoyance. He’s never felt so much hatred as he did right now. He knew Noah suddenly falling ill was a way of punishnt by the moon goddess.
He was as fit as a horse when he got there... sohow, she had ssed with his healing powers and sothing had gone wrong with Noah. Invariably, he was the reason why Noah would die.
Suddenly, the lights went off and a gust of wind blew into the room. Instead of scrambling for safety or shouting with fear, like he was hearing the rest of the people present in his abode do, Kragen laid on his tummy and closed his eyes, ignoring the moon goddess as she ca into his room.
"Didn’t Lilith give you, my ssage?" she started quietly.
"She did," Kragen said quietly "But I was too tired to co to you. I had quite the day, but you know this already. It’s not like it’s news to you,".
"I asked you not to go and be with the Werewolf, Kragen! You’ve disregarded several tis, made a fool out of most tis and you think it’s funny whenever I ask you to get sothing done. You never listen to ... if you had listened to from the inception, things wouldn’t have gotten so bad,".
"Maybe if you had shown a bit of compassion and given back my form without making wait all these years, perhaps, I wouldn’t have tried to get it on my own. Besides, what could I have done, mother? Ignore a woman who put her children first, sothing I am not sure you’re familiar with,".
The moon goddess clenched her hands beside her, struggling to control her irritation that was slowly rising. "Fenrir, I told you that there was nothing I could do. I and your father reached an agreent and keeping you with him was the best decision to make. I simply had to ti to care for you and... it was better if no one knew that you ca out of my loins,".
"Exactly!" Kragen fud with a sneer on his lips "If you didn’t want so much, then you could have gotten rid of before I was born. That would have been a better and easier option for everyone. Because for what’s what... you more than anyone knows that you didn’t want ,".
"I wanted you, Fenrir... If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have carried you to terms. It was because I had so much love for you growing inside that I...".
"Then why did you let stay with that man!" Kragen yelled, tears gathering at the corner of his eyes "All those years, do you know what kind of abuse – emotional, physical and ntal abuse I had to put up with? I didn’t ask to be born; I didn’t ask to be made a god... I don’t want this life, mother...I want my mom to look at for once in her life and call her son... and not be ashad of ...".
"Fenrir..." the moon goddess tried.
"To ask how my day went, rember my birthdays, cook a al, spend ti with , be interested in the kind of things I want and love and not saddle with a responsibility I hate so much. I hate to kill, I hate to take away love from anyone, I hate this life!"
"Fenrir!" the moon goddess screeched with indignation.
"My na is not Fenrir!" Kragen retorted loudly, his eyes burning with annoyance "My na is Kragen... and I am not a monster. These people that you lord over and claim that you’re bigger and better are more compassionate and sacrificing than you’ll ever be. Take a look at Selene... She’ll do anything for her girls... you have it all, Mother... you have everything in control and yet there was no room for ,".
"We are gods, Fenrir!" the moon goddess said vehently "It’s your constant mingling with these creatures that make you want their life. You can never have it. I cannot be a mom to you the way you want. I have to shoulder all the responsibilities of all the creatures put in our care by the universe. I’m so sorry about your father but he was only training you to be competent and do what you’re born for,".
"What I am born for?" Kragen laughed dryly "More like the life I am born into. The life you all want to live which I hate so much. Gosh, I fucking hate to be this,".
"A lot of people will kill to be what you are, enjoy all the privileges you enjoy now. If you want to beco a creature like those werewolves be my guest. One word from you and I’ll grant your wish but you’ll regret it so much,".
"Fine!" Kragen shrugged "I am not useful here anyways. I hear everything they whisper behind my back. How about the question if I am truly a god? Father’s silent disapproval and you trying to always tell what to do, especially when you didn’t even raise !"
"You’re only being foolish!" The moon goddess hissed and turned her back "I’ll going to give you the night to mull over your foolishness and decide if you want to be wise or not. As for that Selene matter, you’ll wrap it up as soon as possible. The longer you delay, the more her second chance mate gets sicker. The ball is in your court,".
"By making him sick, you’re punishing them and not , don’t you understand," Kragen ran after her "They’re your subjects and you don’t give a damn about any of them. Besides, she loves him now... it’ll break her heart...".
"And you love her!" the moon goddess said quietly "Let her go, Kragen and I’ll stop punishing her. I am trying to save you here, don’t you understand ... we must put an end to all this ill-fated match and who knows end centuries of bad fate and curses. I am trying to help Selene. If you put your emotions at rest for a few minutes you’d see that I’m trying to help her,".
"By killing her children on purpose? By making her husband hate her and by enabling a descendant of Gaia to co after her and her children? You must stop whatever you’re doing, Mom. You’ll only kill her...".
Kragen paused as the realization hit him....his eyes widened as he stared at the moon goddess "Wait! You want to kill her?"
