Xavier POV

I paced my room, biting my fingers as Selene’s call ca in for the thousandth ti in the last few minutes. I was scared of picking up her call. What excuse was I supposed to give her about the girls? One minute, I left them outside playing the next minute they were missing.

Their tracking devices were found sowhere outside the pack house, and their phones and personal identifiers on them were found at different locations outside the pack house. I was scared to death... if anything should happen to them, I would never be able to forgive myself.

There was a knock on the door before it opened and Lucius entered the room, an exhausted look on his face. He looked even more tired these days than I rember. His eyes were sunken in and almost hollow, he looked sick.

Instinctively, I walked up to him "Are you alright, Man?" I asked running my eyes all over his body "You look like you could use so rest?"

"I’m fine," he swatted my hand, glaring at "Let’s focus on the girls, Selene has been calling non-stop and it’s been three days already. We need to let her know. She’s their mother and she must have sensed that sothing is wrong,".

"If Selene knows that I lost the girls, I might as well say goodbye to fatherhood. She’d never let them co within an inch of . You know how intense she can be when she wants to. We just need to look for the girls more, please?"

"Xavier," Lucius sighed exhaling "The girls are no longer in the capital. We’ve combed every shrub, every tree and every grass and there’s no sign of them. Not even footprints or sothing to indicate that they were here. It was a clean job and we can no longer keep it away from her. Also, I heard a rather strange news this morning,".

"Strange news?" I eyed him curiously "What about?"

"About Noah, heard he was in so sort of accident and no one knows if he has recovered or died. What if she has been trying to seek for help from us and we weren’t taking her calls? Have you considered that possibility? Knowing who your family is... with Noah out of the way, they might have gone berserk, your mother especially,".

"Shit!" I murmured as my heart began to pound violently; I had forgotten the kind of mom I had. On cue, Selene’s call ca in again. I hesitated for a second before I clicked on the answer button.

"Hello!" I said quietly into the receiver.

"The only thing I’ve ever done... my biggest mistake is entrusting you with the life of my children, apparently, you don’t love them as much as you claim," her voice ca on hard. "You had just one job, Xavier... to look after these girls but you let them slip under your nose? What is so important that you had to abandon them?"

"She knows!" I mouthed to Lucius who didn’t look surprise before I continued speaking to her. "I’m so sorry, Selene. It’s my fault, and I understand I swear to the moon, I just took my eyes off them for a few seconds and then they were gone but we’re are currently looking for them and I promise...".

"They’re with !" she said cutting off. "Apparently, your mother had my children kidnapped right under your nose or did you give them to her willingly/ Because I don’t know what to believe... it’s hard enough that I’m going through a hard ti here but knowing that you could have joined hands with your mother...".

"I would never, Selene..." I said desperately "I and my mom have never been close. The last ti we spoke was at Moon Whisper after that incident before I returned to Greyhound. Please... I had no idea that she had taken the girls and I’m so sorry,".

"You’re sorry!" her voice broke making my wolf to whimper in agony. We could feel her pain, although she was miles away. "It’s enough that I have to deal with your family and their antics alone but now I have to also worry about the girls. Do you know how fucking hard it has been these days? How much I want to put my feet up and just take a break for one day?" She was crying now.

I stayed on the call, at loss for what to say with my heart breaking with each harsh sob. "Maeve is an emotional wreck, Xavier. I had to watch my five-year old wield a knife yesterday. She attacked your mother and do you know how she responded?" she paused, and laughed...her voicer echoing hysterically through the phone. "She threw us all into the dungeon. She wasn’t rciful enough to keep us in one of the holding cells but the dungeon. and our daughters. I would never be able to forgive her... to forgive you...".

"Selene, please..." I begged "I’m sorry... I know at this point there’s no reason to trust but I swear, I’ll make it up to you. I’ll do whatever it takes to prove that to you. Just tell ... anything... I promise,".

There was a long pause on the other end of the call... for a mont, I thought she had gone off before she sighed and said..." I’m tired, Xavier. I need to sleep... your uncle Noah is in the hospital and I have no idea if he’s fine or not. Can you find out from your mom how’s he’s doing? I’ve been kept in the dark regarding his state and I’m worried,".

"Sure thing," I nodded "I’ll call her now and trying to get a positive response from her but you don’t have to worry, Selene... he’ll be fine. He’s a Lycan and he’ll recover before you know it,".

"You think?" she scoffed "It seems you know little about your family but that’s alright. I have to go now... and just so you know, Xavier... I can never entrust the girls into your care again. I have a hearing in a few hours, I need to go and prepare for it. Bye!" without waiting for to return the goodbye formalities, she ended the call.

I turned to Lucius whose eyes were glazed in thought. "Well, that went well if you ask ?" I said.

"No!" Lucius shook his head "She’s trying to ask you for help, Xavier... we need to find a way to get you out of Greyhound imdiately... Selene needs your help!".
