Selene POV
I spent at least thirty minutes in my car in the driveway of the pack house, refusing all the help from the pack guards. I couldn’t help but wonder when this cycle will end. I spent the better part of my life running away from everything and now, it seed like they were all catching up with .
If anything should happen to Noah... I shook my head trying to avoid the train of thought. Plus, it didn’t help that my wolf Bea has been quiet lately. She was either not responding to at all or would co with her usual one-liners and then stay silent for another few days.
Also, Kragen has been silent. He was used to showing up when I was in trouble... he once told he could sense when I needed his help and I was counting on that now. If he ca, he would be able to help clear my head and settle more than half of my worries.
But I also knew he was busy and had other pressing things to do. After all, he was the King of the underworld. Sighing, I removed my seatbelt and ca down from the car tossing the key to the guard on duty. I needed to go to my office first, I had a lot of work on my desk that I was supposed to check this morning. Knowing who Brooke was, she was probably still in bed.
Sothing strange happened... as soon as I entered the corridor that led to my office, I picked up an unfamiliar scent. Following the scent, I traced it down to the door of my office. Puzzled, I noticed my door was half open and there was a greasy stain on the knob. Pushing the door with my feet, I walked inside, making sure my displeasure was boldly written on my face but I stopped short when I saw Nora – Noah’s sister sitting on my chair with her legs cris-crossed on my desk. She even had her shoes on.
Standing on either side of her, were two burly n masked to the teeth, holding weapons. The ambience in the room spelt nothing but danger and I knew I had to go about it the right way.
"I wasn’t expecting to see you here," I said quietly "What’s up?"
"Curious," she shrugged staring at with a smug smile on her face. "You left the hospital nearly an hour ago and you’re just getting to the pack house? Just before you lie... I checked all of your favourite places... combed every corner of the pack trying to find you. Where have you been? Did you stop to et up with your little conspirators?"
I made a big production of rolling my eyes, as I crossed the room to where the water dispenser was "Very funny, Nora. I needed to clear my head, so I went shopping after I left the hospital and I am not supposed to be explaining myself to you. You’re not the boss of and for the love of the moon could you remove your feet from my desk? It’s annoying ,".
"My brother sure gave you a lot of guts to talk back. When you were with Xavier, you couldn’t even look in the eyes, Selene," she dropped her feet from the desk and rose to her feet sauntering towards . She was taller and bigger than but I matched her glare with a colder look of my own.
"You’ve changed, Selene. You must be up to sothing heinous that you think would liberate you or is it because of your so-called fate and your ability to heal Xavier?" she snickered "Please... don’t tell you think you have actual powers?"
"Why Nora?" I fired back calmly "Are you scared that I will hurt you? Oh, weren’t you the one running around begging Noah to let heal Xavier? You think you can do without ? I am the reason why Xavier breathes,".
"And we should give you your flowers? Please..." she scoffed "Anyways, out of the goodness of my heart and further escalate things more than how they are right now, I want you to go to your room at the pack house, take off all your rags there and leave. You have until tomorrow morning to clear out the place and please, don’t make repeat myself or try to throw you out myself,".
Cold terror gripped as I stared at Nora. At that mont, everything that I had feared would happen, seed to be happening right in front of and there was nothing I could do about it.
"You cannot ask to leave the pack, Nora. The only person who has authority over in Moon Whisper is Noah and unless I hear from him, I am going nowhere. I am his wife, his mate and his Luna, you will not deprive of the joy of being blissfully married just because you’re miserable,".
"Really?" she chuckled "Fine then, I’ll show you proof,". She turned to one of the burly n stretching her hands to him. He ca towards her and presented a decree which she pointed in my direction. "We found it on Noah’s desk this morning. It’s a decree asking that you vacate the premises of the pack house within 24 hours and await further instructions,".
We stared at each other for a mont before I burst into laughter. "You think I’m stupid, Nora. Do you think it’s easy for to fall for these half-baked lies? I and Noah went to bed last night, we made love and we were so intimate as a matter of fact...".
"I have no interest in what happens in your bedroom Selene. Pack up your things and leave," she interrupted.
"And if I don’t?" I took a step towards her, "If I refuse to do as you have told , what will you do? I am the Luna of Moon Whisper and I will not allow you to tell what to do,".
"Very well," she chuckled dryly "I’m going to let you do whatever you want and I hope you make the right decision, Selene. I’ll be back by evening, if there’s no sign of you leaving the pack house, I’d have to take asures. So, enjoy it while it lasts," she winked at before brushing past and out of the office.
As soon as she left, I lowered my trembling body to the ground, gasping for air and trying to fight the heaviness I felt in my chest. Tears flowed down my cheeks... I didn’t deserve this. I didn’t deserve to suffer like this. Where was Kragen? Why wasn’t he coming to help ?
He had said I would be arrested or sothing but she was supposed to be here? Everything was confusing at this point. I didn’t know what truly happened to Noah. Why he had left the house so early in the morning? What had taken him from the pack house and why he was eting with those people?
"Selene!" Kurtis’s voice rang from behind as he hurried and ca to stand next to "Are you alright dear?"
"I’m not!" I cried entering into his arms "They want to ruin ... Nora asked to leave the pack house in 24 hours or she would take asures. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know if Noah is still alive at this point. Plus I t Reid at the parking lot of the supermarket and he asked to leave that the Carrells have sothing on . It’s all confusing, I don’t know what to do,".
"Maybe the first thing is to leave just like Reid suggested. I tried to get one of my n into the hospital to find out what is happening but they’re keeping a tight leash on even his dical results and the security to his ward is tight and impenetrable. Sothing is going on and I don’t want to say this is a power tussle but we need to get you to safety first. At least for the sake of your baby,".
"And leave, Noah?" I gave him an accusatory look "How about the people in this pack that have their hopes on and Noah? I cannot desert them now... I will not run away like a coward. I will stay,".
"This is no ti to play, hero, Selene," Kurtis chided "They are dangerous and if you keep getting in their way, they will try to hurt you. it’s a good thing that the girls are not here but with their father. You should take care of yourself first before anything. Please...".
"And I said, I won’t leave!" I scrambled to my feet "I am going nowhere, Kurtis. Except you’re here to help then you can stay but if you’re not up to this, you can leave. I’ve tried to go against the Carrells all my young adult life. I won’t give up now. I’m going to fight until I get exactly what I want. I am the Luna of Moon Whisper and I will protect it with everything I have in ,".
"Fine!" he said after a few minutes "What can I do for you? How can I help at least?"
"Start by finding out why Noah left the house so early in the morning, why he t up with those people and who are they truly. Once we figure that out, it’ll be easy to deflect whatsoever sches they have coming,".
"Fine! I’m on it!".
