Chapter 652: Chapter 652: Who Injured Him
The car hadn’t even co to a complete stop.
Qiao Xi directly opened the car door and dashed toward the ergency room.
The sound of wind roared in her ears; she clutched her chest, gasping for air, her throat dry and raw, filled with the tallic taste of blood.
Her legs felt as though they were weighed down with lead, yet she kept running desperately.
Her mind was devoid of any random thoughts — all she wanted was to see Huo Xingzhou as soon as possible.
Seeing him would be enough.
The hospital was crowded, and she ran shakily, often bumping into others.
So short-tempered people cursed directly at her.
“Are you blind!”
“Rushing to die, huh?”
“I’m sorry.”
Qiao Xi could barely make a sound.
Her eyes were red-rimd.
“Apologies.”
“Sorry, please make way.”
She squeezed into the dense crowd in the ergency room, searching frantically.
“Excuse , where is the ergency surgery departnt? Is there soone nad Huo Xingzhou here?” Qiao Xi’s voice tightened as she leaned over the nurse’s desk, inquiring urgently.
The nurse kept her head down, flipping through records, and replied, “It’s a rather serious injury; he’s been sent to the ergency surgery operating room. Go straight ahead — turn right at the front.”
“Alright.”
Upon hearing the surgery room ntioned, Qiao Xi’s legs nearly gave out; she almost collapsed to the ground.
“Thank you.”
Her mind went blank as if she were a machine, chanically turning right and walking toward the surgery room.
Several operating room lights were on, signaling surgeries in progress.
The only thing Qiao Xi could see was that piercing red indicator light.
She leaned against the wall and slumped down directly, covering her face with her hands as tears spilled uncontrollably.
Old Chen had just finished parking the car when he walked in and saw her forlorn state. He rushed over, anxious, and asked, “Young Madam, what happened to the Young Master?”
“He’s in surgery for rescue.”
Old Chen instantly panicked. “Which room is he in—where is the rescue room then?”
Qiao Xi sniffled, her face streaked with tears as she shook her head, choking: “I forgot to ask clearly.”
She looked pitiful and aggrieved.
Her mind couldn’t handle much at that mont; all she thought was to be near Huo Xingzhou as soon as possible — even a step closer would be enough.
Old Chen hadn’t seen Qiao Xi lose control like this in a long ti.
He tried to comfort her: “Young Madam, don’t worry, the Young Master has great fortune; he will pull through. Trust him. You wait here — I’ll go ask the nurse which room he’s in.”
“Alright.”
Qiao Xi’s eyes were swollen, and tears kept falling against her will.
Huo Xingzhou absolutely cannot have any incident.
If sothing happened…
She would lose her mind.
“Old Chen! Qiao Xi!”
Sun Weing arrived in the hallway holding a stack of hospital paperwork. Looking at the two of them crying their hearts out, he called out to them.
“Why are you here so quickly? I thought you’d take a while longer.”
“Young Master Sun, which operating room is our Young Master in? How is he? Who stabbed him?”
Old Chen grabbed Sun Weing’s shoulders tightly, loudly questioning.
Sun Weing clapped his shoulder and said, “Ow, that hurts! You’re stronger than you realize! He’s not going to die; stop worrying so much! The doctors said it’s a stab wound to the abdon that requires a couple of stitches, but there’s no danger to his life. Trust the dical skills nowadays — they’re very advanced. He’s in Operating Room 2, right over there.”
Upon hearing this, Old Chen’s tension instantly dissipated.
“That’s good. That’s good.” It wasn’t life-threatening like last ti.
This ti, at least his life wasn’t at risk.
Thank goodness!
Sun Weing glanced at Qiao Xi, whose face was full of sorrow, and tried to console her. “Don’t worry; it’ll be fine. Huo Xingzhou was fully conscious when he was brought in — just looked quite scary. The doctors assured his life isn’t in danger. He’s the scourge of Haicheng — no way he’s going down so soon!”
“He’s not a scourge.”
Qiao Xi’s voice trembled as she spoke.
“Alright, alright, not a scourge,” Sun Weing said hurriedly, slapping himself on the mouth. “That was my mistake.”
Qiao Xi cried openly, wiping at the tears on her face haphazardly before standing up.
She approached Sun Weing, “How long did the doctors say the surgery would take?”
“About two hours, give or take. For safety, they’ll also run so tests. Don’t worry about it.”
Qiao Xi asked, “Who did it?”
Sun Weing scratched his head. “That, I don’t know. The assailant has been arrested and taken to the police station, but I haven’t had ti to ask. By the ti I arrived, Huo Xingzhou was already hurt. It happened right at Tianyuan Group’s local branch…”
He had only hurried to find Huo Xingzhou and had witnessed the incident, after which he rushed him to the hospital — he hadn’t had a chance to investigate who was behind it.
“Qiao Xi, the police won’t let the attacker off. Right now, what’s important is waiting for Huo Xingzhou to co out and confirming the severity of his injuries. He may know who did this. Since our arrival in the Imperial Capital… we’ve offended too many people.”
Anybody could be after them.
A question flashed through Qiao Xi’s mind. Her reddened eyes turned to Old Chen: “Old Chen, where are his bodyguards?”
If he had bodyguards with him, how could he have gotten hurt like this?
“Uh…”
Old Chen stuttered, unsure how to reply.
The Young Master had specifically ordered this matter to be kept confidential.
But now, the entire Imperial Capital’s cunning minds probably knew that the Young Master had no bodyguards, and perhaps so of them were already plotting.
Finding loyal and competent bodyguards was no easy task.
“Old Chen, he doesn’t have any bodyguards at all, does he? The only one left — you — is by my side. He travels alone, so they were able to succeed, right?”
Qiao Xi struggled to hold back but couldn’t suppress the sob escaping, exposing her fragility.
“What are the bodyguards even doing? Old Chen, can you tell ?”
Old Chen felt awkward. “Young Madam… The Young Master said this matter can’t be disclosed. Please don’t pursue it. If you must, ask him directly.”
He couldn’t say.
Qiao Xi opened her mouth but felt utterly powerless.
She hadn’t even realized Huo Xingzhou had no one left at his side.
He had ordered Old Chen to stick by her side so closely — but what about him?
Huo Xingzhou — what a fool.
Sun Weing stood off to the side, glancing at Old Chen and then at Qiao Xi.
He couldn’t follow their train of thought. How could the Huo Family, with its vast wealth, have no bodyguards left?
“Uh… My family has so resources. Should I ask my parents to send a few bodyguards to the Imperial Capital?”
Old Chen gave him a look and said, “Are they reliable?”
“Um… Probably.”
“Would they remain loyal even if offered ten million or a hundred million?”
Sun Weing gulped. “That’s unlikely. With that much money, most people can be persuaded. Are the Huo Family’s bodyguard requirents this high? Treating money like it’s dirt!”
He hadn’t realized Huo Xingzhou was so picky.
A hundred million — even he would be tempted.
What bodyguard wouldn’t?
Old Chen’s expression turned solemn. “Then we don’t need them. Whoever accompanies the Young Master must have a clean background and unshakable loyalty. Otherwise, we’d always be wary of betrayal from within — the Young Master can’t afford that risk.”
Sun Weing: “Oh.”
Qiao Xi ignored their distractions, her eyes fixed on the indicator light over Operating Room 2.
Her feet were so numb they had lost all sensation.
No one knew how long they had been waiting.
Suddenly, the red light switched to green.
The surgery was over.
