Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Truly Good Stuff
The elegant old lady, holding her chest and speaking in a hoarse voice, said, “Are you holding a grudge because of how I used to make things difficult for you? I apologize to you. You can make any demand.”
“It’s not that.”
Qiao Xi felt as if there was a heavy stone pressing down on her heart and said resolutely, “I can’t disobey my teacher’s orders, I cannot agree to your request.”
Hearing this, Liu Qiushuang had a mont of recognition that seed to say “as I suspected.”
Liu Qiushuang imdiately deflated, her complexion turning ashen as she said, “I knew it, I was asking for too much. It was our Liu Family that broke the rules first, it’s not your fault.”
Back then, Liu Zongyun was one of Lu Bannong’s patients, soone Cheng Han would not have touched.
...
She just couldn’t bear to give up that sliver of hope, though she also knew it was very unlikely her youngest son would wake up.
Qiao Xi frowned, once again it was about the rules.
She didn’t know what had happened in the past, and Grandpa Cheng had never ntioned even a single word about it to her.
Just as Qiao Xi was about to ask, Aunt Qian’s questioning voice ca from the stairway, “Miss Xu, why have you run upstairs?”
Qiao Xi and Liu Qiushuang both turned their attention toward the sound.
Xu Xingluo brushed back her scattered long hair and said, “I went to take a look at the studio. It holds many mories of Brother Xingzhou and , I didn’t expect it to be preserved as it was.”
Aunt Qian said calmly, “The house has been too busy, I’ll rearrange it soday.”
It certainly wasn’t kept the sa for her!
“Xingluo, it’s so impolite of you. As a guest, how could you just run around?” the matriarch feigned anger as she scolded.
Xu Xingluo hugged her arm coquettishly and said, “Sorry, I forgot for a mont that I was a guest. I used to co here often, more familiar with the place than Miss Qiao.”
Then she raised her eyes to Qiao Xi and said, “Miss Qiao, you won’t mind, will you?”
“I do mind.”
Qiao Xi said softly, “So next ti, Miss Xu, don’t run around. Xingzhou doesn’t like others touching his things.”
She kept ntioning Huo Xingzhou with every other sentence, calling him “Brother Xingzhou” in a way that made Qiao Xi quite uncomfortable.
Xu Xingluo’s smile tugged at the corner of her mouth, her eyes cold and devoid of warmth.
With a heavy heart, Liu Qiushuang said, “Xiaoqiao, we will take our leave now. Let’s pretend I never asked for anything today.”
“Take care.”
Qiao Xi did not attempt to detain them.
After Xu Xingluo helped the elderly lady away, Qiao Xi received a phone call.
She spoke earnestly into the phone, “Alright, I’ll be right there.”
…
Half an hour later.
Qiao Xi took a taxi to the hospital and headed straight for the large conference hall.
The hospital was preparing to hold a charity clinic mobilization eting, dispatching young doctors to the countryside for public service, to provide free dical care to the villagers.
The eting room was packed with young doctors and nurses from all departnts of the hospital. Shu Xue, sitting in the back row, waved to her, “Qiao Xi, over here!”
Qiao Xi walked briskly to her side and sat down, asking, “Why is this event so big this ti?”
Shu Xue whispered, “It’s the hospital’s 50th anniversary charity clinic; the dia is going to cover it too. Each departnt is picking two young doctors to go down to the countryside for the charity clinic, volunteering is encouraged.”
Qiao Xi suddenly understood.
“Qiao Xi.” Shu Xue grasped her wrist, “Actually, hospital leadership is considering sending you because you’ve been gaining a lot of fa recently. But charity service is no easy task, so don’t hastily agree.”
“Why?” Qiao Xi asked, puzzled.
Shu Xue, with the air of soone who had been there, advised, “Conditions in the countryside are tough, the local dialect hard to communicate in, and the signal is weak. Once it rains, it’s easy to lose contact. So of the patients are unreasonable, fierce, and crude.”
Qiao Xi laughed upon hearing this, “It’s okay, I grew up in the countryside.”
Shu Xue, frustrated as if dealing with a stubborn child, said, “Qiao Xi, you’re too carefree! There are vixens all around your husband, and you’re just fine with leaving?”
Hearing her words, Qiao Xi reined in her smile.
One Xu Xingluo was already a significant threat. It couldn’t be ruled out that there might be other people coveting Mr. Huo.
“Xuexue, my marriage to him was an accident. If it hadn’t been for , would he have married a well-matched lady from a rich family?”
“My goodness! What do you an by accident? That’s a match made in heaven!” Shu Xue exclaid in amazent, “You and Huo Xingzhou have registered your marriage. Don’t you like him?”
“I do,” Qiao Xi said softly.
“Then there you go! If you like him, don’t let go so easily. Qiao Xi, you need to be strong! There will always be won around Huo Xingzhou! You have to be even more…”
Shu Xue started to brainwash her, filling Qiao Xi with courage.
In the end, she patted her on the shoulder and said, “There are still two days left to sign up for the volunteer doctor session. You might as well not go and leave the opportunity to the single doctors in the departnt.”
Qiao Xi nodded, “Okay, I’ll think about it.”
The volunteer dical service mobilization eting began, and Xu Xiuyuan represented hospital managent in addressing the eting. Qiao Xi had turned off her phone’s volu and vibration but noticed an unread ssage from Huo Xingzhou.
Upon seeing the content, she couldn’t keep the corners of her mouth from turning up.
Qiao Xi looked down and typed a line: “I’m at a eting at the hospital.”
“I’ll co pick you up after it’s finished,” Huo Xingzhou replied, succinct.
Qiao Xi pursed her lips, clutching her phone and replied, “Okay.”
Seeing this, Shu Xue tsk-tsked and said, “Joined at the hip, and a day apart feels like an eternity. Even so, are you still willing to go volunteer in the countryside?”
Qiao Xi pinched her arm and said, “Keep it down.”
“Shy, are we? After being a couple for so long,” Shu Xue glanced at her before suddenly realizing sothing and said, “You guys haven’t actually…”
Qiao Xi rapidly covered her mouth, panicking, “Keep your voice down.”
Shu Xue gestured with her thumbs touching, asked in a hushed tone of surprise, “Really not yet? Aren’t his legs better? Could the rumors that he’s infertile be true? You can’t cure him?”
Qiao Xi’s face flushed pink, “It’s not that, we…”
“Lack of experience? Are you shy?”
“It’s not…”
“Qiao Xi, let’s not talk about this topic anymore.”
Shu Xue patted her on the shoulder, “Co to my office later, I have sothing good for you.”
“What good thing?”
“So proper materials and resources. You can look at them when you get back,” Shu Xue said, “Absolutely high quality. I’ve been collecting them for many years.”
After the eting ended.
Qiao Xi was handed a USB drive by Shu Xue, which she examined over and over in her hand.
Walking out of the hospital, Qiao Xi saw the familiar Rolls-Royce parked there.
The driver, Old Chen, got out and opened the rear door. The tall man was deftly typing sothing on a laptop.
“Mr. Huo.”
Qiao Xi sat down beside him, stealing glances at his expression.
“What brought you to the hospital?” Huo Xingzhou asked casually.
Qiao Xi thought that the list for the volunteer session wasn’t yet confird, so she replied, “An impromptu eting.”
“What’s that in your hand?” The man noticed the black corner protruding from her hand.
“A USB drive, with so materials on it,” Qiao Xi asked, “May I use your laptop?”
She also wanted to know what Shu Xue had put together.
It just so happened that Huo Xingzhou had brought his laptop.
