Jason and the guard reached it, the path to the main clan residence, where his ho was.

Jason was surprised when they passed by the clan market, it ant that the evaluation hall wasn’t situated in the heart of the clan.

The guard escorting him stopped moving as they reached the border, the place that marked the beginning of the main clan residence. The guard took his post there, he was by himself, unlike the two guards that were usually guarding it.

After the death of the two rank five guards the Hachiman clan had increased their front gate security, now instead of rank 5 guards there were two rank 3 guards.

"This is where I stop." The guard said coming to a complete halt. "You’ve taken this route many tis so I don’t need to guide you."

Jason nodded.

He had passed by here many tis, the guards were aware that he left the main residence, what they didn’t know was that he knew in-and-out of the main residence.

He set out on his way to his ho.

It had been a long ti since he had left ho – three days ago – and he wondered if it changed much.

’I wonder if Emily has awakened.’ He mused, the thought coming to his mind but leaving just as fast. ’There’s no way to know if she has awakened without that, and I don’t have it.’

He still wondered about his mory, the one that he had been unable to recover after supposedly getting one-shot by a giant spider. But he knew it had sothing to do with the ’Essence of A Being’, it had done sothing to him.

Sothing he couldn’t quite place his finger on.

But he would find out eventually.

The house he had lived him throughout this life finally ca into view.

He did not feel happy, instead a chill swept over him, cutting through the air.

It knotted in his stomach, almost as if it was an instinctual foreboding of what was about to happen next.

’Sothing’s wrong.’ Jason thought, he began to grow worried.

A scent borne, carried in the breeze, it was tallic and unsettling.

It snuck into his nostrils. He realized what it was – the scent of Iron.

"The sll of blood."

He hurried, his steps quicker as he went in the direction of his ho, his ho sweet ho. As he got closer the sll intensified, dread began to grow in him.

Jason arrived at the door but he hesitated, he was unsure if he was ready to see what awaited him beyond those doors.

He pushed the door open after awhile, the wood creaking as it was pushed. It echoed unnaturally in the silence that enveloped his ho.

The mont he stepped inside the scent intensified to even greater degrees, the tallic tang hung in the air.

He looked around; the section of the wall he saw first was stained in blood.

Jason’s gaze went down, he saw it.

Emily.

Or more precisely, her corpse.

She was missing a limb, the blood that ca out from her left arm had obviously stained the wall. The shirt she wore had a large hole in it, as if a hand was plunged through it.

Her clothes were stained in blood, not a single portion was left unchecked.

He ca closer.

Her face though was untouched and her hair was spread out as a halo, her eyes were left open and he could tell the last thing she did before she died.

Emily cried.

She was still, too still. Her body un-moving.

"Its dried." He muttered to himself, feeling for the wall. "This incident took place several hours ago, maybe even in the night."

"While I was sleeping you were being killed..." His voice was hollow, lacking emotion.

"Sorry." Jason bent beside her and closed her eyes.

The room had been a place that they both stayed, sotis he told her stories, other tis they just enjoyed the silence, knowing that there was soone else there.

This sa room felt stark and hollow, the walls bore witness to the monts, and the death.

He felt her skin.

It was cold.

Despair tugged at his edges, yet he felt strangely disconnected.

It felt more like he was observing another man’s tragedy, and not his own.

He stared down at the little girl that he had taken care of, bloodied, and lying lifeless on the ground, and barely found a flicker of emotion.

"Why?" Jason questioned himself, this wasn’t because of her death.

It was because he barely felt anything.

The girl that he had cared for was dead, murdered in his own house after he promised to keep her safe, yet he felt nothing at her departure from the world of the living.

"Why!?!" Despair tugged at the edge of his reality.

Jason wasn’t like this before.

He couldn’t feel anything at Clark’s death, and now he could barely feel anything at Emily’s, the sa person he had protected against the middle-aged man.

This indifference, the hollow acceptance – was familiar.

He rembered.

He was also like this when he killed Alaric’s group, he didn’t care at all, he murdered human being’s without a care and in the end left their corpse to rot.

He hadn’t trained for this, it just happened, like he was born to kill.

Jason hadn’t killed anyone in his last life, he wasn’t just your average human being, but still. This indifference towards death, as if it was all just machinations towards the end goal.

"How?" His voice fell to a whisper, Jason had finally realized it.

It was the system – the talent system just seed to be there for collecting talents from others, but that could just be on the surface.

The system was robbing him of his emotions, naly, negative emotions; Emotions that would lead to indecisiveness.

They were leaving his grasp.

He could feel anger on a small-scale, the sa with sadness, and annoyance, along with all the rest of them.

But anything that could lead to a mont, a mont where a single decision of his could lead to his doom, that would lead to his and the system’s demise, was nullified.
