264 The Great Offer

Arianna didn’t co out of her room all day, however, she ate and Marcel was grateful for that. It was sothing at least because if she planned on starving herself then he would have no choice but to force the food down her throat. But for the fear of choking – he heard people died from that – he would have to threaten one of her family mbers and she would only hate him further.

Marcel was trying to be gentle with her but Arianna was not making it easy either. If she was only damn obedient, then this would have been much easier. However, trust Arianna, she would butt heads with him in every decision and action. She doesn’t trust him one bit. Well, he hadn’t given her a reason to do so. Even at that, the Arianna he knew would never do as he said even if he asked her.

So no, trust was impossible.

Thankfully, Marcel was busy with etings all day. He had to strengthen his influence in the city including his control over local enforcent partners.

They were not the only Mafia family in this city but everyone knew enough to respect their territory and not cross the line. Luciano was one of the top Mafia families and war with another major family would create division and as well, chaos.

That was the reason for the existence of the commission. The Commission is the governing body over all of them,

with a ruling committee that consists of the bosses of the top families, even stretching outside the city. The purpose of the Commission was to oversee all Mafia activities in the country and serve to diate conflicts among families.

In one word, it consists of a “board of directors” to oversee all Mafia activities and serve as diators. They had a chairman and etings were held once in a blue moon or when they needed to discuss family problems.

Hence, even as the boss of their organization, they had a limit to their actions; neither was Marcel interested in the politics of the commission. As far as his family mber was not ssed with, he had no business with them.

.....

After a partnership eting over border routes with another cri family, Marcel was done for the day. He was returning ho when his phone rang and it was no other than his fiancée Clara, he had forgotten about her.

“Hello?” His voice was neutral, close to almost being called flat. Ever Since Arianna returned to the base to tornt his life, everything about Clara bored him. You could almost say Clara was equivalent to a nuisance in his eyes now. Weak and pretentious won were not his type.

“I saw your flowers.”

And yes, he had to keep Claudia in check, at least, until he found his sister. If Clara reported Arianna to his father, he couldn’t tell what that bored, heartless man would do. Marcel didn’t want to be put in a situation where he would have to choose between his sister and Arianna. His father might as well kill him.

“And?” he hoped it was effective.

“You’re forgiven,” She added, “Only because you asked on a date,”

A date? Marcel frowned, he didn’t rember adding that to the apology note unless his n made a mistake. But then, his n hardly make mistakes and not on small tasks unless... oh, she was demanding one. Clara was being smart with him and he was in no position to reject her.

“Fine, pick the ti and date, I’ll be there.” He told her, showing no other interest.

“Huh?” There was dissatisfaction in Clara’s tone. Wasn’t it always the male planning the date? Why was Marcel’s case different? Luther used to take care of each and every one of their dates.

“What is it?” Marcel asked, his eyes on the tablet and watching footage of the unstable Jeremy. Having been off the drugs for days now, his withdrawal symptoms were obvious even to a blind man.

“Nothing,” Clara swallowed back her words. She and Marcel fought a lot in the past; she didn’t want to offend him anymore. Clara wanted to be the perfect woman for him now.

“Alright, text when everything is set,” Marcel was about to end the call when she shouted.

“Wait!”

“What is it?” Marcel tried not to show his annoyance knowing what she was about to ask. He was not a profiler but Clara was an open book and he’s read her well enough that there’s nothing left to unravel.

“That woman?...” She held her breath, “You haven’t told about her.” Clara wanted to know badly about that redhead bitch but she didn’t want to provoke Marcel in the process.

“Who’s my fiancée?”

“What?”

“Who am I getting married to?” He rephrased his question.

“?” Clara choked out.

“Then why are you bothered by her?”

Clara frowned, why wouldn’t she be bothered when he shouted at her in front of the bitch? Moreover, she couldn’t deny her female instinct, Clara felt threatened by her.

She knew Marcel had other won than her. No, who was she kidding? Even before they stopped fighting, Marcel always had won at his beck and call. But he had never defended anyone as fiercely as he defended that woman that day. Also, that woman didn’t look scared of Marcel as other people were of him even when Marcel looked murderous.

Clara was jealous of that confidence. No, how dare that woman make her inferior. She was Clara Louise Alberta for crying out loud. People envied her, not the other round. She wanted to know everything about her – and her relationship with Marcel.

“I just....” Clara didn’t know what to say, she couldn’t tell Marcel she didn’t like her and wanted her out of there. How could that woman stay so close to Marcel when she was far away? It kept her on edge.

But then, an idea hit her and she quickly said, “I’m just trying to be sure she’s not a threat to you. If you need help with her, I can do it. I don’t know much about your family business, don’t you think it’s ti I started getting acquainted, already? Moreover, she’s a woman, I’m one as well.” She made him a great offer.
