You know that mont when you beco tired? Not just physically but soul tired. That tiredness that cuddles into your bones and nothing could fix it, not even sleep. You know the kind of tired that makes you wish for nothing but death. Yeah, I was that tired now.

It’s been six fucking months, six fucking months of trying to find a way out of here. But there was no way out and even if we do make it out there was nothing but endless snow on the other end. So even if we did make it out of this fortress all we would see is miles of white all through, along with silence and the cold. It would be as if the world didn’t know the aning of warmth.

But sotis, I wish that I could get of this place. I would trade anything just to be out there because deep down I think even the snow is better than this cell. At least out there, the death would be quicker and I would be able to get a mont of reprieve.

Here? Here was hell, I live just long enough to feel everything those bastards wanted to feel. Every pain, every hunger, every humiliation, I felt that. They like to remind us that we are no longer people but property. Slowly, I was starting to believe them and I would have believed them completely if it wasn’t for the fire that still burns in my heart.

It was weak, but it was alive!

"FASTER!" One of those soldiers yelled as he cracked his whip and lashed out.

We all moved faster, spinning the wheel as we tried to avoid the whip. A man behind yelled out in pain as he fell forward causing us to be one man down. They wanted us to work faster but the stupid shit for brains soldiers don’t understand that if they whip us we won’t be able to get the work done. It also doesn’t help that we were fed once a day and it wasn’t exactly a feast.

Rice balls for breakfast and stale bread with water for dinner, most tis they forget to serve us so we were left feeling hunger pangs till the next morning.

"Co on, move those legs!" The man yelled again cracking the whip but thankfully he didn’t crack it.

I grunted as I pushed the wheel, walking faster while using all my strength. It was going to be nightfall soon and they are going to ask us to go back to our cells. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to it. The cold was too much and I couldn’t feel my limbs anymore.

Just few more minutes! I thought to myself as I continued to push when all of a sudden there was a loud commotion.

"Hey! Stop right where you are!"

We all looked at the sound, I wasn’t the only one who was curious to see what the commotion was about. Everyone looked up and that was when we saw her.

A young girl not over the age of ten, ran out from one of the rocky cliffs that lined the outer wall. Her feet ran across the snowy ground. I watched as she slipped and missed her footing a few tis but she didn’t stop. Instead she continued running as fast as her little legs could carry her. She moved as if she consisted of wind and desperation. Snow fell around her, she didn’t stop. She looked small and frail in the too large tunic that she wore but gods, she was fast.

A couple of soldiers chased after her yelling as they did, trying to get her to stop. She should have fell down, slipped down and been caught. But she wasn’t, she kept on moving forward, zigzagging between jagged rocks and icy ledges as if she knew this land better than anyone ever could.

She ran like she was desperate to get out and shit maybe she was! I thought as I watched her with curiosity,

"SOONE STOP THAT THIEF NOW!" One of the soldiers yelled and more joined in.

Thief! I thought to myself as I stared at the girl.

I watched as one of the n suddenly appeared in front of the girl, balling his hand into a fist. It was too late, the girl ran into him just as he threw a punch at her, knocking her down to the ground. The girl fell down to the ground rolling down the small cliff but luckily there was a heap of snow to break her fall.

By now, all the prisoners had already turned to the sigh, trying to watch what was happening. The girl groaned as she tried to stand up but one of the soldiers kicked her in the ribs causing her to fall backwards.

I stepped forward but a firm hand clasp on the shoulder. "Do not even think about it." The voice rasped behind , "In mont like this it’s best not to get involved."

Turning around, I found out that the owner of the voice belonged to a middle aged man. I didn’t say anything but turned around to look at the girl.

"Well, well, well... looks like we’ve got a fucking thief in our midst lads!" The man said as he roughly yanked the girl up.

The girl was very brave because she glared at him, eting his eyes like she wasn’t scared of him. The man smirked before he yanked her hand up which was clenching tightly. She struggled but the man pressed harder by twisting her hand to the side and a single vial that contained so yellow dust fell from her pocket.

"Now this is interesting." The man cooed before he stared at the girl, "Why did you steal this? Did you suddenly develop a knack for taking drugs now?"

The girl glared at him, "Fuck you!" She spat at his face and everyone gasped out loud.

The man chuckled before he suddenly kicked her to the ground, yanking her by the head. The girl wailed and kicked as she scread but the man kept a tight grip.

"Soone tie this bitch up and make her ready for , I will be giving her fifty lashings for disrespecting !" He ordered while people gasped again as they whispered in hushed tones while looking amongst themselves no doubt feeling scared.

"Gods, soone do sothing!" I heard soone whisper in desperation.

I turned to look at the scene, watching as the little girl scread while slamming her fist at the man’s back. I closed my eyes knowing I was going to regret my decision but if a little girl was willing to fight, then I see why not.

Taking a deep breath, I stepped forward. "Let her go!"
