Chapter 8: Hello Kitty, you are finally awake

Kathleen got wheeled into the theater, the mont they arrived at the hospital.

Elizabeth left the dressing room with her legs bandaged as soon as the nurses were done with her. Although she was asked to rest in bed, she insisted on waiting by the theater door where Kathleen was taken.

She leaned against the wall, constantly lifting her head to see if the red light on the door of the theater had gone off.

"Please Lord, if you’re up there, save Kathleen and the baby. I’ve not asked anything from you these past years, but if you can do this, I’ll forever be grateful to you," she prayed.

"Take a seat Madam and have faith, you are already looking so pale and need to take it easy. I believe your daughter and her baby will be fine," Ben comforted Elizabeth who had not stopped pacing back and forth ever since she ca out of the dressing room.

Elizabeth was taken aback...

’Your daughter?" Those two words caught her attention and kept ringing in her head.

She fiddled with the Jade pendant in her hand: it had fallen from Kathleen’s neck when she was being carried to the helicopter.

She stared into space and suddenly a picture of soone ca to her mind constantly overlapping with another.

"No, it can’t be, I must be hallucinating again," she shook her head and sighed depressingly.

She was called back from her reverie by Ben’s voice.

"Luckily I heard from our dical director, that Professor Gaius, a very famous doctor majoring in traditional Chinese dicine, has a special session in this hospital today. So I know God is on your side. Maybe your daughter’s case might be one of those he’ll attend to."

Elizabeth’s mouth opened in surprise.

"Are you serious?" a note of incredulity in her voice.

"Professor Gaius, the world’s renowned Chanean doctor, is here in this hospital?"

"But it is rumored that he doesn’t attend to people again after the disappearance of his last disciple. He has been living a secluded life and only cos out for consultations thrice every year."

She was more certain that Ben must have been misinford. How can Dr Gaius be in this particular hospital and not one of those highend ones which only the rich could afford?

"Yes," replied Ben excitedly. "I heard Dr Rivers, the owner of this hospital is his good friend, so he cos around once a year to see him. But his friend would always convert those visits into a dical consultation session with the top doctors in his hospital and also for him to attend to so challenging cases."

"Although his visits are not always announced, many doctors would still queue up down to the hospital gate just to have an opportunity to et him, except for those working in this hospital. Despite that, he would still ensure he ets with each and every one of those doctors and clear whatever doubts they might have before leaving."

"So if the Prof is the one attending to your daughter, I’m sure there’ll be nothing to worry about," Ben said with confidence, his face glowing in adoration when speaking about Professor Gaius.

"I pray so too," Elizabeth replied, hope rising up within her.

"So can you now have a seat? At least you need to rest so that you’ll be in a better condition to be with your daughter when she gets out."

’Yes, of course I have to be strong for her,’ Elizabeth agreed within herself and finally took her seat, her eyes never leaving the theatre door.

’I owe Kathleen my life and I must ensure that she is well taken care of. I’ll spend the rest of my life dedicated to her well being even though I don’t know her well enough yet. This is my oath.’

—————-

anwhile, Dr Rivers who had just changed the finished IV fluid to a fresh one, straightened up and said as he wiped off the sweat from his face.

"The bleeding has stopped and she’ll be fine after she takes a rest, Also, from the transvaginal ultrasound we carried out, the fetus is still attached to her uterine walls."

"Does that an there will be no need for an evacuation? You know, the bleeding was pretty much heavy," asked Dr Samrall who had followed them from the island on the helicopter.

"That might not necessarily be ruled out yet, and of course, we still need to see the results of the other tests in order to compare her hormone levels and also assess if she’s fit enough to continue with the pregnancy."

"I must say, I’m quite surprised, for her and the babies to have survived is indeed nothing short of a miracle, judging from the volu of blood she lost. In most cases, situations like these would have resulted in instant miscarriage, but by a sheer stroke of luck she survived. I can see she’s a fighter to have survived the crash and still remain pregnant."

"However it all depends on her if she wants to continue with the pregnancy to full term or not. Whatever her choice is, we’ll respect it and go along with it."

"By my projection, she should be waking up any mont from now," Dr Rivers stated matter of factly.

This was what Kathleen heard when she regained consciousness and couldn’t help but wonder If she was the one they were referring to.

Soone among them noticed she was awake and quickly notified the rest.

She blinked as she adjusted her eyes to the bright light in the theater, she could vaguely see several people in white gathered around the bed she was in. She recalled being carried into an air ambulance from the island and passing out minutes later.

Before she could inquire about her location, the door opened and she heard light footsteps approaching her bed, she felt a warm touch on her arms and a deep voice sounded above her head,

"Hello Kitty, you’re finally awake."
