Chapter 77: Aren’t You A Good Business Woman!
Kathleen went about her weekend engagents and didn’t need to worry about leaving the kids alone as they had their grandparents to accompany them.
Eleanor and Elvis were over the moon with excitent as they were greatly indulged by their grandparents, coupled with the fact that they didn’t need to get up too early as it was Saturday.
After breakfast, they followed Stacy to the garden with their little hand pruners, gloves and basket where they learnt how to prune and pick vegetables.
It was late sumr and most of the plants had finished blossoming, the fruits had also ripened and were ready for harvest.
Elvis was given the noble task of pruning the flowers, while Stacy pruned the herbs and other delicate plants.
Eleanor couldn’t be happier, picking the veggies into her small basket.
The vegetable garden was a beautiful splash of colours.
From luscious green cucumber, to the deep-purple glossy skinned eggplant and bright-orange carrots which instantly brought up the hilarious mory of Clover, Sofia’s bunny, making away with so carrots from the palace garden in popular children cartoon: Sofia the First.
Her favourite was the plump, bright red tomatoes that made one want to sink their teeth deep into them for a juicy bite.
Occasionally, they would see a butterfly and chase it until it flies out of their sight. The children’s rosy cheeks and sonorous laughter which rang out from ti to ti truly conveyed their utmost excitent.
As they worked in the garden, Eleanor did not forget to ntion Sophia’s birthday party every now and then as if anyone dared to forget about it.
The telephone in the living room rang and Mrs Carr, who was in the house received the call.
From the other end of the phone a soft timid voice asked, "Hello, is this The Wyatt’s residence?"
Hearing the voice on the phone, Mrs Carr knew it belonged to a child, probably Eleanor’s friend in school, so she softened her tone.
"This is Wyatt’s residence, please may I know who is speaking?"
"Good morning Aunt. I am Sophia Rosse and I wish to speak with Eleanor. She is my friend from school."
"Hold on for a mont, I’ll go get Miss Eleanor to speak with you."
"Thank you Aunt," Sophia responded good naturedly.
A few minutes later, the back door flung open and Eleanor dashed in and went straight to the phone.
It took a little while for Mrs Carr, who was panting to show up, as she practically had to rush to the garden where Eleanor and Elvis were having a wonderful gardening experience.
"Hello, Sophia," Eleanor’s cheerful grin stretched from ear to ear as she answered the phone. "This is Eleanor."
"Eleanor," Sophia’s equally excited voice rang out from the earpiece.
"I called to remind you of my party tomorrow. I hope you will be there?"
"I’ve promised you I would co so I’ll definitely be there." There was no need to ask as Eleanor had already made up her mind that she wouldn’t miss the party for anything.
"Really? Has your mom given her consent for you to co?"
"Yeah, yeah. I asked for her permission last night and she readily agreed."
"That’s great." Eleanor could hear Sophia release a sigh of relief. "Make sure you co along with your brother," Sophia reminded
Eleanor nodded but rembered that Sophia couldn’t see her. "I will try. You know how he is, but you must not forget what you promised
if I succeed," Eleanor did not forget to add.
"Rember you must not break a pinky promise," she warned.
"Of course, I won’t Eleanor."
"Okay, Bye."
"See you at the party tomorrow."
Eleanor hung up and turned to go back but was startled by the cold faced Elvis glaring at her.
Her eye widened and she covered her mouth with her palm as she wondered how much he might have heard from her conversation with Sophia.
"Did you just trade
for a lousy "God knows what?"
"How could I?" Eleanor denied instantly, she would never admit to such a thing.
"How could I?" He mimicked Eleanor. "I clearly heard you negotiating the price just now."
He had seen how those girls in kindergarten had been clamoring to get close to him but he successfully drove them away with his "no stopping, no parking, keep moving" expression.
So that didn’t like Eleanor at first even made friends with her so that they can get to hang out with her brother since she was the only person he usually played with.
Little did he know that his darling sister had such wild ideas about him.
Eleanor, on the other hand, was busy lanting her ill fate inwardly. ’How can I be this unlucky to be caught red handed on my first attempt to gain so benefits with my brother?’
She however retorted shalessly, "Mummy said we should socialize. I’m actually doing you a favour."
Her pink lips ca together in a cute pout. "You should be grateful instead of complaining, dear brother."
"How can that even be called a favour? I don’t need that kind of favour."
Elvis was highly disappointed in his sister whom he has always doted on. She actually used him as a bargaining chip. How can this be?"
"You know what? I was actually considering attending the party, but with your performance just now, I have changed my mind."
Eleanor was scared and begged, "I didn’t really an to, dearest brother."
"Is that so?" his tiny lips curled in a sneer.
"It’s just that you are so handso and outstanding and I wanted to make them understand that my brother is not so cheap that anybody can afford him," Eleanor explained desperately.
"So you had to sell
off to the highest bidder." Elvis said sarcastically.
"That’s not how it is."
Eleanor quickly clasped her two hands together in front of her face and released one of her best arsenal, "the puppy eye"
"Dearest brother, Please, please, pleasssssse," she batted her full eyelashes a few more tis and looked vulnerable as she pleaded,
"What if soone tries to bully
if you don’t go, how can I cope with that?"
"You will negotiate your way out, aren’t you a good business woman?" Elvis retorted in a clip tone.
