Chapter 268: Did You Kill Her?

"Let her continue deluding herself that she has the upper hand until her sudden fall. That will be a better victory to celebrate, don’t you think?" Kathleen said with a cynical glint in her purple orbs.

"You are right, sis. Just that I didn’t know my loving sister could be this calculative," Jason teased.

"Seriously! Are you going to start with this again?"

Jason raised his two hands in mock surrender, a frightened look etched on his disarmingly handso face which elicited a laugh from both Kathleen and Lauren.

"Now that we are outside, can you give the kids a call?" Jason quickly steered the conversation back to the children.

It proved to be the perfect distraction as Kathleen forgot about her anger and asked, "how are they?"

"They blatantly refused to go to school today and insisted that they must speak with you when Mrs Carr told them you later called last night."

"They only agreed to go when I told them you will call them later in the day.," Jason reported.

"Let’s go see them in school. I want to surprise them," Kathleen said.

With the ntion of the children, her face had a relaxed and loving look which was a refreshing sight to Lauren who had been worried about her previous exhaustion.

They saw soone on a stretcher being rushed to the direction where they just left and a distraught relative hurrying along.

It reminded her of the scene last night when Shawn was in the sa situation. Luckily he had been saved and she prayed the sa would be said of this family as well.

She nodded politely to the greetings from a few of the doctors who knew her, but not as Dr Janice as they passed through the busy corridor and headed to the elevator.

On their way to the children’s school, Jason asked the one question he couldn’t bring himself to ask last night due to Kathleen’s distraught state.

"Who do you think was behind the kidnapping?"

"Yes, tell us. The sa question had been on my mind since you told

you were kidnapped," Lauren added from the back seat.

They were all riding in Jason’s car to the children’s school and being the first day of the week, the road was very busy.

"I don’t need to think. I know who is behind it" Kathleen stated matter of factly to their surprise.

"Have you investigated already? Aren’t you too aweso," praised Lauren.

"As much as I’d love to bask in the praise, I didn’t need to investigate to find out who was behind it."

"Did Shawn’s people do it then?" Jason asked.

"Nah." Kathleen said dismissively. "I saw her myself."

"It’s a she? Don’t tell

it’s who I am thinking it is," exclaid Lauren.

"Who else?" The corners of Kathleen’s mouth turned up in a sneer.

"I guess she wanted to bargain with you concerning her mother’s release," Jason uttered coldly as he turned a corner, inwardly cursing at the driver in front who was driving like a novice.

This ti around, he wasn’t going to listen to his sister and watch that family get away with it. They’ve been having it too easy.

Lauren’s brows furrowed in confusion. "How was she able to pull it off? Because the Linda I know doesn’t have such guts."

"She was working in collaboration with an underground organization. I guess she got to know them through her mother’s connections.

"Underground organization?" Lauren repeated worriedly. "You need to be more careful in the future. If she can do it once, nothing can stop her from trying again," she warned.

"Don’t worry. She won’t be able to do anything again. It’s all been sorted out," Kathleen said flippantly.

Lauren’s eyes widened in shock. "Did you guys kill her?"

"What are you thinking? Of course I won’t soil my hands with her accursed blood. I didn’t kill her," Kathleen uttered with disdain.

But what she didn’t add was that, she wasn’t sure others wouldn’t.

She had faith in the judgnt of the Boss of the Dark Ace.

"How can you be much at ease when she’s still roaming free? It’s your safety we are talking about here, and by extension that of the children." Lauren glared at her friend who was getting more difficult to fathom.

"Like I always say, they are a bunch of small fries and bees. They can only buzz around but can’t sting."

"President Jason, you are not saying anything?" Lauren cried in alarm when she saw how unserious Kathleen was.

Why was Kathleen taking this too lightly. Being kidnapped by an underground organization who for all she knew must be heartless killers wasn’t sothing to look forward to. Who can guarantee if she would be lucky next ti. The re thought of it made her shudder in fear.

"If she says not to worry, then there’s no need to." Jason answered as if he was talikng about soone refusing to take his bath.

He has known his sister long enough to understand when she had everything under wraps. He knew she wasn’t bluffing but what he didn’t reveal was that he knew what she also knows but decided to be silent on the matter.

Johnson had told him earlier about what happened at the warehouse and how they were able to leave that place soon enough for Shawn to be rescued. But he didn’t tell him about Linda’s involvent maybe because he had not seen her at the scene.

Lauren on the other hand was rendered speechless by the two siblings’ behavior.

Her eyes darted from one to the other and she couldn’t decipher the more rational one among them.

"We are here," Jason announced as he pulled up at the school’s parking lot, jolting Lauren from her confused state.

"Go ahead to see the kids, we will wait for you here." Jason said to Kathleen who was contemplating whether they should all go in.

"Thanks, I’ll try to make it snappy," Kathleen said and left imdiately.
