Chapter 254: BEEP OF TROUBLE
Fay returned to the funeral room, at the sa ti Seth was making his way out.
They stopped right in front of each other, as Seth doubled back.
"Hey you, I was going to search for you. Are you okay, Fay?" he asked, as his eyes lit up with concern.
"?" she touched her chest. "I’m fine, of course. Totally fine," she nodded, hoping she was selling her lies.
"Are you sure? You know it’s okay if you choose to leave, right? Everyone would understand."
"Yeah, actually about that. I’m going to leave with Dream soon. But it’s not going to be to the house," she mustered enough courage to say at once.
"Really? Where would you go then? The Atticus’?"
"Nope. I can’t tell you that without having to explain a whole lot of things, and frankly, there isn’t much ti to do any explanation. Could you please just trust ?" She reached out for his hands, as her eyes sent him a desperate look.
"Fay, you’re alarming . What is it you can’t explain? And why do you have to take Dream with you to this destination you don’t want to tell
about. I don’t understand it, and frankly, don’t like it."
"I love you. With all my heart, I do. But trust that this is the best decision right now. Also, I need you to be safe, and that’s why you either co with , or go to the beach house. It has to be one of those options, but you absolutely cannot return ho."
"Fay?" he called, already shaking his head in disagreent.
"Please, grandpa. You’ve been saying you want to go to the beach house for a while now. Well here’s your chance."
"It’s not
I’m concerned about. It’s you, and Dream."
"We’ll be fine. Trust , we will be. You know I’d never let anyone hurt my daughter, right?"
"I know that Fay."
"Well then you have to trust
on this."
"Fay—" he dragged her na, his tone heavy with doubt.
"Please?"
"Fine, I’ll go to the beach house. But you have to promise to tell
what this is about as soon as you can, alright?"
"I promise grandpa."
"Fine. I’ll just say goodbye to the Atticus’. Dream is sleeping on Leighton’s lap."
"Okay, grandpa."
He kissed her forehead, before turning towards the matriarch.
Fay took a deep breath, then walked ahead to where Leighton sat with a sleeping Dream in her body.
"Hey, you’re back. I turned and didn’t see you, or Landon anymore. Is everything okay?" She asked sweetly.
Fay had wondered if Leighton also knew Ace was alive, but judging by her absolute worry, and confusion, she clearly didn’t.
"I don’t know where Landon is, but I’d like a favor please."
"Sure, anything."
"Could you hold on to Dream for a few more minutes? I have an important call to make."
"Yeah, sure. But are you sure everything is fine, Fay?"
"Yeah." she bobbed her head.
"Well, go ahead then."
She smiled in appreciation, and stretched her hand to the chair beside Leighton, where her purse sat.
Grabbing her phone from the purse, she returned it back to the chair, and turned towards the left door.
Gabrielle tried to get her attention, but she whispered a few apologetic words, gesturing that she was in a hurry.
She walked out of the left side door, and into another different room, that looked more isolated.
Her finger dialled the number faster than it took her brain to register she was actually going to do what she was supposed to do six months ago.
The phone rang once, before soone at the other end of the line picked up.
Fay’s heart thumped loudly against her chest, but it was not from nervousness.
It was all the adrenaline rush that was moving around her in waves.
"Hello?"
"It’s not you I want to speak to. Give the phone to your mother. Tell her it’s Fay," she said.
She basked in the awkward silence that instantly ford. She even thought she heard sharp breaths.
However, she wasn’t sure if the witch would be humble enough to talk to her.
"Hello," she heard a faint voice say, and her heart skipped a beat.
"Hello Lynne," she replied formally.
"Is it really you, Fay?" She heard her Aunt ask.
She almost couldn’t believe it was the sa woman who had done every evil to her with vigor and strength.
On the phone, she sounded so weak. Like a weekend away from death.
If she could bring herself to show so rcy for her, she could have actually felt sorry.
"It’s , and I don’t want to beat around the bush. I know what you did to my parents. I know what you and your husband successfully did. I’m giving you a chance to do so good in your life before you eventually, and inevitably face the consequences of your action. Are you still with ?" She asked, just to be sure that in her rush to state her business, she had not been hung up on.
"I am, Fay. But do you think we could please see in pe—"
"That’s not going to happen," she quickly interrupted. "Seeing you would be
cosigning to catch an assault charge. I don’t want to lay my hands on you, so I’ll rather let the law do its job. But before that, you have to tell
everything Celine Atticus, and the Reign Kings made you do four years ago. I want details sent to
before the end of tomorrow."
"Fay, please just—"
"Am I going to get the details I need or not, Lynne?" She asked ruthlessly.
She heard a faint sigh of resignation, and her heart twisted in pain.
It didn’t have to be this way, but she could never forgive her for the death of her parents.
She’d die first herself, than to ever forgive sothing so heinous.
"You are," Lynne replied defeatedly.
"Good. I’ll send you the email address I need the details to be sent to."
She ended the call swiftly, and pushed her back against the door.
Shutting her eyes tight, she allowed her mind to reflect.
All the ti she didn’t have the strength to fight back. All the tis fear kept her from defending herself.
Those days were long past her. And for her daughter, she would burn the world, if it ca to that..
Her phone beeped, and she opened her eyes.
It was a ssage from Cam. He was at the parking spot.
She pulled her body out of the door, and returned to the funeral room.
The children had left, and so had the matriarch.
It was just Leighton, and Gabrielle left in the room.
"Hey, I’m so sorry for keeping you waiting," Fay apologized on entering the room.
"It’s no problem really. I’m waiting for Landon to take
back ho, anyway," Leighton said, offering her an understanding smile.
"I have to leave now," she said, but first went to Gabrielle. "Do you want
to drop you ho?" She asked.
"No. Not yet. I’ll stay here, and mourn my son for a few hours more. When I’m ready to leave, a taxi has been prepared for ."
"Are you sure?" She asked, stroking her cheeks.
"I’m certain, Fay. Take Dream ho. She needs to rest."
Fay sniffled, and raised Gabrielle’s hands to her forehead.
Closing her eyes, she said a little prayer, before bringing the hands to her lips, and kissing it.
"Thank you for loving my son, and being here for him," Gabrielle said, as Fay rose to her feet.
"And thank you for being his mother."
She blew her a kiss before turning to carry Dream from Leighton.
"Are you sure you don’t want
to help you out?" Leighton asked, as she helped push Fay’s purse under her armpit.
"That won’t be necessary. I can manage," she smiled weakly.
"Alright. Then take care of yourself, Fay. And call
once you get ho, okay?"
"I will."
Just as Fay left the room, Landon ca into the room.
"You’re finally here! Where did you go? Everyone except Gabrielle left already," Leighton said, going to him.
"I’m so sorry. I didn’t an to leave. I just had sothing important to do," he said, kissing her forehead.
But looking through her, he saw Gabrielle sitting alone, and walked up to her.
"Hey, mum. Shouldn’t I be taking you ho, already?" He asked, right after kissing her cheeks.
"Oh Lan. My sweet boy," she said, as heavy tears fell down her face.
Landon was instantly moved to tell her the truth. But just as he opened his mouth to speak, his phone beeped.
He looked at the screen, and his heart skipped a beat.
Rising to his feet, he began to dial a number.
"Ace please answer," he scread in his heart.
"What is it, Landon?" Leighton asked, frowning from worry.
He lifted his head, but as much as he tried, the truth simply refused to leave his lips.
