Chapter 231: OLD CONNECTIONS
Fay woke up to Dream tugging her hand. She opened her eyes, and smiled when she saw her daughter.
"Baby, why are you up so early?" She asked, pulling her into her body.
"It’s not early, mummy," Dream replied.
"It isn’t?" Her brow lifted, as she rolled the other side to check the ti.
It indeed wasn’t early. She couldn’t believe she had slept half the morning away, when she had already planned to finish off the preparations for Dream’s birthday before evening.
She rolled back to et Dream in a seated position.
She looked so cute with the two ponytails she was sure was the work of her nanny, and her dolly dress.
"So what do you want?" She asked after taking a hard, loving look at her daughter.
Dream’s mouth stretched into a mischievous smile, showing off her toothy tooth.
"What is it, Dream?" Fay chuckled at her reaction.
"How do you know I want sothing, mummy?" The little girl asked.
"Because you’re my daughter, and I know you." She stretched out her hand, and squeezed her nose gently.
Dream giggled heartily, before she finally spilled.
"Can I have my birthday in grandma’s house?"
The smile on Fay’s face instantly wiped off.
She didn’t know who she would kill first. Her grandfather or Ace, but between the both of them, one had to go for using her daughter to manipulate her.
"How do you know about your grandmother?" Fay asked, sitting up too.
"Mummy, you told
last night that the snacks were from my grandma."
"Oh," she thought in her head. She had indeed said that.
However, she couldn’t rember telling her about the request for her birthday to be held at the Atticus mansion.
Both n had not completely escaped her wrath yet.
"Mummy, are you angry I asked?" Dream questioned in a sober voice.
"Oh no baby. I’m just curious to know why you’ve asked for your birthday to be held there. You don’t even know anyone there, rember?"
"So there are lots of people there?" Her eyes widened, and sparkled.
Fay sighed inwardly. She was losing this battle. She could sense it already.
What the child craved the most was more family mbers.
She had once spent a whole month crying for more siblings.
In a way, Fay understood her. Growing up, she had wished for more siblings too. Especially ones that didn’t hate her.
"There are, Dream. And that’s why I’m worried. If your birthday is held at that mansion, you’d et lots of people you’ve never t before, baby. What if you get overwheld? or worse, what if you don’t like them?"
"I’ll like them. You, daddy, and pawpaw would be there too," she said insistently.
Fay sighed outwardly. There was no convincing the child otherwise. She didn’t want to hurt her, or refuse her anything, either.
"Fine, only if that’s what you really want."
"Really mummy?" Her eyes bulged, as she jumped into Fay’s body.
Fay laughed, and held on to her, lovingly. She loved to see Dream happy more than anything else in the world.
It didn’t matter what she needed to do. How much she needed to compromise. Anything that made her daughter happy, she’d happily do.
By noon, Fay was on her way to the Atticus mansion to discuss the birthday party with the matriarch, and Gabrielle.
She had driven halfway when her phone rang.
With her eyes still on the road, she reached to her right, and grabbed the device on the empty passenger seat.
She wriggled her nose, and her forehead creased when she saw the screen.
She answered, and put the phone on loudspeaker.
"What do you want, Xylon?" She asked.
"You’ve been avoiding . I’m hurt," he replied.
"I’m not avoiding you. So of us are just really busy, you know?"
"Doing what? Preparing for your daughter’s birthday? Hooking up with your ex-husband, or being kidnapped by your puppy love?" He asked.
She beca at high alert, but didn’t sound like it in her voice.
"I see you’re stalking . I would think the owner of a company as large as yours would have better things to do with their ti. I see I was wrong," she replied in a bored tone.
He laughed, too enamored by her to be swayed by her sarcasm.
"Have you forgotten we have a deal in the works?" He asked right after.
"I changed my mind, Xylon. I don’t want to do it anymore."
"Now why would you say that? Are you just trying to hurt ? What did I ever do, Fay?" He asked in a fake hurt voice.
"You may not have noticed, but I’m driving. Why don’t we have this conversation another ti?"
"Unfortunately Fay, we can’t. The deal absolutely has to be done. You don’t know this, but the forr president of Luxe, owes
big ti. I saved his ass, and he said he’d repay
with a contract. I think it’s ti to collect that contract."
"You may not have noticed, but I really don’t give a fuck what deal anyone made with the forr president of Luxe. It’s a new dawn, and I’ll be damned if I answer a question I wasn’t around for when posed."
She ended the call, and returned her full attention to the road.
"The audacity of that bastard!" She seethed heavily.
Her phone rang again, and she was about to pick up, and really cursed out Xylon for not taking the hint, when she saw it was her personal assistant calling.
She took in a deep breath to calm down, before she answered.
"What is it? I thought I told you to keep every problem aside, until Monday?" She asked.
"Yes ma’am, but this is important. You have to et up with Xylon Bass. I just saw the docunts signed, and he’s right. You’re legally bound to uphold the contract. I’ll forward the docunt to you right now."
She sucked in the curse words that had gathered in her tongue, as the call ended.
Releasing the breath she was holding, she dialed Xylon again.
"Where do you want to et?" She asked as soon as he answered.
Fay found a parking spot at the gold standard restaurant, and parked her car.
She alighted, and as she turned towards the entrance, felt a familiar presence.
Her face turned to the side, and she saw Alexander get out of his car too.
Their eyes t, and his widened in shock, whilst hers were curious.
"Hey," he said, walking up to her.
"Why are you always alone? And why did you throw your friendship away with Leighton?" She asked, unable to hide her curiosity anymore.
"Well that’s one way to return one’s greeting," he chuckled nervously.
"You used to be so cool in my eyes, but four years later, and I’m thinking, maybe he was a loser all along."
"Fay–"
"Fay what? Leighton is with Landon, which I still don’t know what that’s about. But they look good together, so yay! But you— you’re just off," she said in the nicest way she could describe the situation.
"Maybe we could talk more privately? So I can explain my side, before you go around calling
weird?"
"Well I wouldn’t have minded, but I have to et up with soone right now," she replied.
"Alright. How’s Dream?" He asked.
"You rember her," she said, her voice automatically softening.
"Aside from the fact she’s your child, she’s a pretty special kid. Reminds
of another child from four years ago."
Fay actually smiled genuinely this ti around.
"Maybe you’re not entirely weird. You still rember Sophie."
"I don’t forget the people I care about," he said, looking intensely at Fay.
She held his gaze for a few seconds before clearing her throat.
"I have to go now," she said.
"I know. But first, take this."
He went into his car, and picked out an umbrella.
Returning, he opened it, and raised it over her head.
"The sun is coming up pretty harshly. Like a vampire, your pale skin still burns under it. I guess so things don’t change, after all."
She was instantly transported to the day she left the hospital. After almost drowning in her bathtub.
Ace hadn’t exactly liked that he gave her an umbrella.
"You rembered," she whispered.
"You, and everything about you is pretty hard to forget," he replied.
She opened her mouth to respond, when she heard her na.
Lifting her head, she saw Xylon Bass, waiting for her.
"Who is that?" Alexander asked.
She grabbed the umbrella from him, and he let go.
"Co to the Atticus mansion tomorrow. It’s Dreams’ birthday," she replied, and turned towards Xylon’s direction.
Holding the umbrella over her head, she walked up to him.
Behind her, Alexander remained in the sa spot, observing the situation.
He didn’t like the look on that guy’s face. And since Ace wasn’t around to protect his woman from anything that might go wrong, he decided to stick around, just in case....
