Chapter 220: ON A MISSION

Fay was sitting on her bed, with her head bowed whilst she wore her heels, when she heard the sound of her door opening.

She lifted her head to see Dream standing by the door, her favorite Pet, ’snuggles’ dangling from her hands.

"Why are you standing there baby? Co sit next to Mama." She patted the space beside her.

Dream gently closed the door, and moved to the spot Fay patted.

She sat, and smiled toothily as she watched Fay return to wearing her shoes.

"Are you angry, mummy?" She asked after just a few seconds of silence.

Fay paused long enough to readjust her expression, before turning to Dream.

"Not mad, just curious. I’m going in search of answers."

"About daddy?" She asked innocently.

Fay wheezed inwardly. She wasn’t going to ever forget about her father, and she was beginning to co to terms with that.

"Your father is involved, yes, but this is more about your grandparents. My parents," she explained.

"PawPaw showed

a picture, mummy. You look so much like your mummy, and you have your daddy’s eyes."

"He did?" She lifted a quizzical brow, puzzled by the information.

"Yes. I asked to see my daddy, but he showed

your parents."

Fay smiled genuinely. Dream was just the cutest. She spoke so well for a child who hadn’t even completed four yet.

Sotis she thought it was because she was nice to another child she used to know, who was just as smart.

Maybe the universe saw that, and decided to reward her with her own smart child.

"Are you upset he showed

the picture, mummy?"

"Now why would I be? I’m just sorry we both couldn’t physically et them. They would have loved you, munchkin," she said, and poked her dimples playfully.

Dream giggled giddily. "I have dimples like you, mummy," she said, as she laughed.

"Yes you do. We’re the dimple family," she chuckled, because Dream’s laughter just made her words funnier than they actually were.

However, a wave of emotions hit her when Dream suddenly stopped laughing, and hugged her with her tiny body.

Fay choked, as she pulled her closer. "What’s this for?" She asked in a croaky voice.

"Because you’re fine, and you’re my mummy. Because you’ll let daddy co for my birthday too. Right?"

She couldn’t see Dream’s face, but she could hear the hope in her voice.

She couldn’t possibly dampen that hope. This was her little girl.

"Yes, Dream. Your daddy is going to be here for your birthday. Happy now?" She asked.

"You’re the best mummy ever!"

Fay was set to go half an hour later, but as she was on her way to her car, she paused when she felt a stare.

She turned to see her grandfather walking towards her.

When he arrived at the spot where she stood, he smiled.

"I can’t talk you out of this, can I?" He asked.

"I need to know the whole truth, grandpa. Tired of the ignorance. It’s sickening!" She revolted.

"I understand you, and I sincerely hope you’re successful. But I’m worried about you, Fay. We barely talked about what happened yesterday."

"I’m fine, grandpa. It was just Gabriel. A crazy ex. We sorted our issues already. Besides, I’m not letting any of that stop, or slow

down."

He nodded, giving in to her after a brief thought.

"Take care of yourself."

He placed a kiss on her forehead, and turned around.

It wasn’t until she got to her car, she realized he had put in asures to ensure despite her confidence, she was extra safe.

"Good morning ma’am, I’ll be driving you wherever you choose to go today," Cade, her bodyguard, said, and tilted an invisible hat.

She shook her head, but hopped into the car anyway.

"Buckle up, ma’am," he said, as he drove out of the compound.

"You seem oddly chirpy today. Did you get a raise?" she asked, confused by his euphoria.

"A raise? You pay

ma’am. I’m pretty sure I haven’t gotten paid for the month, just yet."

"Yeah, I thought so too. Anyway, I need you to stop by a phone store first. Lost my phone yesterday," she ordered.

"There’s no need for that, ma’am," he replied.

"And why is that?" She eyed him from behind.

"Because, here’s your phone."

He opened one of the compartnts in the car, and pulled out her phone.

"Your driver retrieved it from the ground it fell on when you were forcefully dragged. He had the broken screen fixed too."

She collected the phone, and a sigh of relief escaped her throat.

The thought of going through the process of a new phone was enough to make her not want to do it. Thankfully, she didn’t have to do it anymore.

"Remind

to thank him for being so thoughtful," she said.

"Will do. Where to now, ma’am?" He asked, as she switched on the phone.

"The Atticus mansion."

Her eyes caught her ssage icon as she went through her phone.

She was about to click on it when an incoming call interrupted her.

"What do you want?" She asked on picking the call.

"Ms Fay, I’ve been trying to get a hold of you, after news of your kidnap made rounds, yesterday. Are you okay, ma’am?" Her PA asked.

"I’m fine, but thanks for asking. Although, sothing tells

that’s not all? Did sothing urgent co up at the company?"

"Yes ma’am. It has to do with Spades," she said.

"Spades?" She frowned. "Are you talking about the Atticus company, Spades?" She asked.

"Yes ma’am."

"Alright, go ahead."

She waited impatiently for her PA to get to the point. It wasn’t going to be a pretty story. She was fully aware of that fact.

Nothing concerning the Atticus was sweet dreams. Even if it starts as one, there was always a beautiful nightmare to end it.

"Apparently, it has changed ownership. But the problem is, the new president is dragging Luxe into a lawsuit that involves the forr president of Spades. Sothing that has to do with a shady deal."

"I don’t understand. Who is this new leadership, and what does Luxe have to do with Spades? I thought I terminated our contract, and rightfully so, seeing it had expired anyway?" She asked, getting heated.

"True, ma’am. But Celine Atticus is claiming before you beca president, there was a shady deal involving the forr president of Spades, and that of Luxe."

At the ntion of Celine Atticus, it all clicked together in Fay’s head.

That picture she sent her on Glam’s opening night, coupled with the outright middle finger she flipped when she requested for her to help in destroying Ace, pushed her to the edge.

This was her way of lashing out.

"So she successfully stole Spades from Ace?" She chuckled in amusent.

"It would seem so, Ma’am. The press are reporting an ongoing battle at Spades right now."

"Alright. I’ll keep that in mind. But prepare a eting with our lawyers. Fix it as soon as possible. Not today though. I have other plans for today."

"Take care of yourself ma’am."

The call ended, and Cade couldn’t help but whistle out loud.

"It seems there’s fire on the mountain," he said right after. "Do you want

to take you to the company, Ma’am?" He asked.

"No, Cade. We’re going to the Atticus mansion. Celine Atticus and her crafty ways do not phase . I’ll deal with her in my spare ti."

"But the press? You know how vicious they get. If your na is attached to the Spades scandal, Luxe would be muddled too."

"I’ll deal with the press, and Celine Atticus, Cade. None of those things matter, I promise. Celine is just a coward hiding behind her family’s na. I’ve seen what she’s really about, and trust , it’s nothing."

Her mind drifted to the night at the hospital. That night Dream had gotten an allergic reaction.

After Dream slept off, she was on her way to her car to drive around a bit, when soone appeared in front of her.

"Grant?" She called, recognizing him imdiately.

"Mrs Fay," he said in tears.

"What is wrong with you? Are you alright? How have you been?" All the questions rushed out of her tongue, as she drew closer to him.

"I saw you. I didn’t think it was you, of course. But I saw you earlier going in through the back. I was coming out with Sir Ace when I did," he said.

"I don’t understand. What does this information have to do with ? Are you alright?"

"It’s been a while, I know. I’m sorry for ambushing you with this, but I can’t keep it in anymore. I have to tell you. I’ve been threatened enough. I just can’t take it anymore!"

His knees dropped to the ground right in front of her, as he wailed.

Confused, Fay looked around, hoping this wasn’t so sort of set-up that would get her into trouble.

"Grant, I don’t—"

"It’s about Celine Atticus, Ma’am. I need to tell you about her."

Suddenly, she didn’t feel like walking away, and leaving him to his conscience anymore.
