Chapter 123: GRIPPING PANIC

Ace knew he had to make it up to Fay. First, for misjudging and mistrusting her, and also for believing Celine’s of all people’s words against her.

Then he needed to hear her explanation on what was going on in that picture. Landon was right. Jason had to be comforting her. It was the only explanation as to why they were that close.

Tugging his tie, they ca loose and he sighed in relief. He took it off, and his jacket followed next. His eyes zood in on the wrist watch around his arm. It was evening already. Very soon, the day would be dark.

He stood up in haste. He had to return ho in ti to talk to Fay.

Landon had taken all the files they needed to the office, so he didn’t have anything else except his laptop to take ho.

He stepped out after putting his desk in order.

Grant, as if waiting all day for him, hurried forward to carry the things he had in his hands.

"I didn’t think you would be leaving anyti soon, sir," he said.

"Grant, you saw Fay off. Tell , did you notice anything different about her?"

The man’s heart skipped a beat. It was as if his boss had read his mind. After all his prayers for Fay not to be brought up, he should have known better.

There was sothing different about his boss, regarding Fay. At first, his care for her was borne out of necessity, but things had obviously taken a turn.

He simply cared about her without any conditions attached. If he was asked, which he was never asked, he may even have feelings for Fay.

Selfishly, he hoped it was true. He would forever be rewarded for his hand in bringing them together. And in sincerity, he really just wanted to see his boss happy.

"Grant, I’m too tired to repeat myself. When I ask you a question, it’s because I require an imdiate answer. Don’t go silent on ," he said it in a calm voice, but his tone was a warning.

"Sorry sir. I did see Mrs Fay out, and yes, she did look a little bit drained. But I think she was just tired. I don’t really think there’s more to it," he said.

"Even after being accosted by Celine? You don’t think she must have done or said sothing to her?"

"I really won’t put anything past Mrs Celine, but I wasn’t there. I can neither say she hurt or didn’t hurt her." He held his breath after. He had pretty much just admitted he left his wife in shark infested waters.

This was cause for a big foot on the back, and shoved to the ground with cented pavent. But to his surprise, Ace didn’t respond.

From the corner of his eyes,he stared at him. The man’s lips were pursed, and the line on his shoulders stiffened.

He had let a lot of things his Aunt did slide. Other people had been burned by him for doing less. One day, she would be other people, and he wouldn’t hold back anymore.

Grant released the breath he was holding as they made it into the open.

Cam who had waited patiently for his boss, while engaging in a hilarious conversation with old man Marty, hurried to open the door on sighting Ace.

"Good evening Sir. You’re ready to leave?" He asked as Ace slid in with a straight face.

"Obviously Cam," he muttered under his breath.

Marty hurried forward just as Grant dropped everything in his hand in the car, and closed the door.

"Sir Ace, I saw your wife today, and she’s so beautiful!" He cheesed, showing the empty sockets of his front teeth.

Ace reached into his pockets and handed a couple of bills to Marty. "Goodnight old man," he said, still with a straight face.

Everyone instantly got the ssage. He was in no mood to cosplay friendship with any of them.

Cam rolled the windows up, and drove out of the hotel.

In the car, Ace thought of Fay. He was beginning to feel like a broken record with how much he thought of her.

She was constantly on his mind. If it wasn’t her face, it was that damn intoxicating scent of her.

He even found himself wishing she would always be in closer proximity.

He didn’t know how to handle any of these feelings, or what they even ant.

Usually, he would run at the first sign of this type of fluffy nonsense, but there was nowhere to run to.

He was married to the girl. Whether he liked it or not, there was no escaping until the one year was exhausted.

"A really long year," he muttered under his breath.

Regardless, he knew in his heart that he still needed to make it up to her.

"Cam," he called, opening his eyes and straightening up.

"Yes boss," Cam replied.

"Take

to the finger food restaurant. You know what I’m talking about."

"Say less boss."

He reclined again, and watched the world pass by him.

After so more minutes of driving, Cam pulled into the restaurant Ace spoke of.

Ace stretched him his card, and gave him a list of things he wanted him to buy for Fay.

He was going to go in himself, but thought better of it. He couldn’t risk being identified by anyone. And it had everything to do with his mood.

Cam didn’t waste any ti before he returned with his bosses orders.

"At least you have a sense of urgency, Cam. Grant would have spent an extra week there," he said.

Cam chuckled. "Mr Grant is amazing though."

Ace had noticed how Cam always ca to the defence of people around him. It was a respectable character to have.

"Thank you," he said to him, as he returned his card.

Making a ntal note to upgrade everyone’s salary for the fifth ti this year, all thanks to Cam’s proactiveness, he relaxed into his seat.

When the car rolled to a stop again, he knew he was ho. He only grabbed the package he got for Fay, knowing that the rest of his belongings would be brought in by his staff.

He walked into the living room, and of course was greeted by Marilyn.

"Sir Ace, you’re ho," she said, beaming..

"Out of curiosity, why are you always excited?" He eyed her from her head to her toe.

"Excited? I’m just happy you’re back ho. Is that a bad thing, sir Ace?"

"Not really. I just don’t know why you’re happy I’m ho. I always co ho."

She opened her mouth to speak but shut it when it hit her. Sothing had gone wrong in the office. It would explain his desire to keep away everything that was bright and sunny.

"You should freshen up, sll that? Alice is making sothing delicious," she said.

"Where’s Fay? I brought her this," he said, raising the package. "She likes this restaurant a lot."

"I was hoping she would be with you. She’s not ho yet."

His brow snapped. "What do you an she’s not ho yet? It’s dark outside. Where could she have gone?"

Marilyn fought the laughter stuck in her throat as she watched Ace panic. It felt good to see how much he cared about his wife and her whereabouts. But she knew she had to speak up before he dashed out of the house in search of her.

"Calm down, Sir Ace. The driver called. He said Mrs Fay asked to be taken to the beach. But they will be returning ho soon. She’s fine," she explained.

"So why didn’t you just lead with that in the first place?" He snapped..

Just then, Alice ca into the living room. "Sir Ace?" She bowed slightly. "Welco back."

He rolled his eyes. "Here," handing the package in his hand to Marilyn, he took a step forward. "Keep it heated for her. Tell Cam to take my things to my ho office," he said behind his shoulders as he made his way up the stairs.

"Why’s he mad?" Alice mouthed at Marilyn.

"Mrs Fay," she mouthed back, and shrugged.

Ace walked into his room and slamd the door shut behind him. With his back pressed against the door, he ran a hand through his hair.

The panic that had gripped him monts before wasn’t sothing he wanted to experience a second ti.

He absolutely hated not knowing Fay’s whereabouts. Even more, when she wasn’t in the house, at night.

Reaching into his pants pockets, he grabbed his phone to call her. But as he pulled the phone out, another call ca in.

He sighed when her na popped up on the screen. As if he wasn’t having enough problems of his own. Just when he thought his already horrible day couldn’t get any worse, there she goes, calling him..

Rolling his eyes, he declined the call, and tossed the phone on the bed. Reign King could go to hell for all he cared.
